The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of musician identity learning. Identity is a significant driving-force behind many artistic vocations. However, identity may also pose challenges such as vulnerability, burnout and conflict of commitment. The paper focuses on musician identity, based on interviews with classical and rock musicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyses reveal that the musicians are either in integrating or situating musician identity learning, two different processes discussed as dynamically interrelated and depending on life situation. The paper argues that breaks of normality accentuate challenges stemming from musician identity and that the proposed learning processes are responses to those challenges, which is previously under-explored. The paper concludes that many musicians or other artistic practitioners likely struggle to de-centralize their identity in order to foster a sustainable vocational career and personal growth, and that temporary career breaks may provide necessary relief and learning space.

This article is a field investigation of the musical memories of preschool teachers and child minders, their experiences and interest in working with music in preschools. It is part of a larger international research project at Mälardalens University, Sweden. The original component of analysis is adults' memories of play. (Sandberg, 2001.) Participants also interpreted their own musical memories and defined music. Under the umbrella entity, WRP (Women's Researchers in Play and Disability) participating project partners were from the USA, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan and Sweden. Participants reported their memories using an instruction sheet, a drawing sheet and a questionnaire.

Background:Dust mites are important inducers of allergic disease. Group 2 allergens are recognized as major allergens in several mite species, including Dermatophagoides pteronys-sinus, Lepidoglyphus destructor, and Tyrophagus putrescentiae. No allergens have thus far been characterized on the molecular level from the dust mite Glycyphagus domesticus. Objective:We sought to examine the cross-reactivity among group 2 allergens of G domesticus, L destructor, T putrescentiae, and D pteronyssinus. Methods:A group 2 allergen from G domesticus, Gly d 2, was cloned and expressed as a recombinant protein. Cross-reactivity between Gly d 2 and 3 other group 2 allergens, Lep d 2, Tyr p 2, and Der p 2, was studied by using individual sera and a serum pool RAST-positive to G domesticus, L destructor, T putrescentiae, and D pteronyssinus. Recombinant allergens were used as inhibitors of IgE binding in immunoblotting experiments. Molecular modeling on the basis of the Der p 2 structure was carried out for Gly d 2, Lep d 2, and Tyr p 2. Results:Two cDNAs encoding isoforms of Gly d 2 were isolated, but only the Gly d 2.02 isoform was used in this study. Sixteen of 17 subjects had IgE to Gly d 2. The protein sequence of Gly d 2 revealed 79% identity to Lep d 2 and 46% and 41% identity to Tyr p 2 and Der p 2, respectively. Extensive cross-reactivity was demonstrated among Gly d 2, Lep d 2, and Tyr p 2, but little cross-reactivity was found between these allergens and Der p 2. According to the tertiary structure of Der p 2 and 3-dimensional models of Gly d 2, Lep d 2, and Tyr p 2, differences reside mainly in surface-exposed residues. Conclusion:Gly d 2 showed high sequence homology to Lep d 2. Cross-reactivity was observed between Gly d 2, Lep d 2, and Tyr p 2, but only limited cross-reactivity was demonstrated between these 3 allergens and Der p 2. Long-term exposure to oestrogens is a well-recognised risk factor for breast cancer, whereas little is known about the influence of polymorphisms of genes involved in oestrogen biosynthesis and metabolism. A candidate, containing a single bp polymorphism, T→C, (designated, A2 allele), might be the CYP17 gene, which codes for an enzyme involved in oestrogen synthesis. This polymorphism creates an additional Sp1-type promoter site (CCACC box), which has been shown to be associated with increased serum oestrogen levels. We performed a case-control study, to evaluate association of the CYP17 gene polymorphism with risk of breast cancer in young women (younger than 37 years). We found a statistically significant increased risk in carriers of at least 1 A2 allele [odds ratio (OR), 2.0; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.1–3.5, p = 0.027], and a trend toward a gene-dose effect illustrated by a slightly higher risk for A2-homozygous subjects (OR, 2.8) than for heterozygous women (OR, 1.9). Furthermore, when we investigated the CYP17 genotype in relation to tumour characteristics, breast cancer patients with 1 or 2 A2 alleles tended to have lower oestrogen receptor levels (risk ratio, 0.70; CI, 0.41–1.2, p = 0.44).
