With the development of Internet technology, teachers are constantly seeking innovative methods to match the potential of enhanced technology. Although many studies have been conducted before on this subject, they are not enough in this field. The purpose of this article is to explore innovative designs to change traditional modes of teaching and examine the impact of online English instruction of reading, based on constructivism. The research study was carried out at the Number 9 middle school of Bengbu, an underdeveloped area of China. In the study, online methods were compared with traditional textbook literature methods to improve the reading proficiency of students. A questionnaire survey was designed specifically for this study and it was administered to the students at the end of a semester, and the data was analyzed. The outcome of this study indicated that students considered online method as effective and that they gained more knowledge. This method helped them in improving their reading skills, aroused student interest and motivation, and exam performance of the students has been improved significantly, and thus, it created a positive learning situation.

The present study assessed the bioaccumulation potential of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in ferns and linked root uptake behaviors to root characteristics and PFAS molecular structure. Tissue and subcellular-level behavioral differences between alternative and legacy PFAS were compared via an electron probe microanalyzer with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EPMA-EDS) and differential centrifugation. Our results show that ferns can accumulate PFAS from water, immobilize them in roots, and store them in harvestable tissue. The PFAS loading in roots was dominated by PFOS; however, a substantial amount of associated PFOS could be rinsed off by methanol. Correlation analyses indicated that root length, surface and project area, surface area per unit length of the root system, and molecular size and hydrophobicity of PFAS were the most significant factors affecting the magnitude of root uptake and upward translocation. EPMA-EDS images together with exposure experiments suggested that long-chain hydrophobic compounds tend to be adsorbed and retained on the root epidermis, while short-chain compounds are absorbed and quickly translocated upward. Our findings demonstrated the feasibility of using ferns in phytostabilization and phytoextraction initiatives of PFAS in the future.

A QSAR study is reported to predict the binding affinity of a set of 81 modulators for both of human estrogen receptor and (ER and ER). In this study, the derived QSAR models were built by forward stepwise multilinear regression (MLR) and nonlinear radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN), respectively. The statistical characteristics of the external test set provided by multiple linear model (R2=0.814, F=61.277, RMS=0.5461 for ER; R2=0.600, F=21.039, RMS=0.6707 for ER) indicated satisfactory stability and predictive ability of the model built. The predictive ability for ER of RBFNN model is somewhat superior: R2=0.7691, F=32.012, RMS=0.5764, and the similar result was obtained for ER of the test set: R2=0.7950, F=54.131 RMS=0.3120. Overall, the appropriate results proved the models to be meaningful and useful to predict and virtual screen of the derivatives with high binding activity.
