The article focuses on the Credentialing Committee created in May 2008 by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) for operations research (OR) practitioners in the U.S. Education, training and experience in the OR profession are evaluated in the credentialing program. The benefits of the program for the professional population and individual practitioners and OR consultants are discussed.

Before the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), the majority of HIV-infected patients experienced diarrhea. The aims of this study were to compare the prevalence of diarrhea among HIV-infected and uninfected patients in the HAART era, and to evaluate the impact of diarrhea on health-related quality of life (HRQOL).

The article presents comments from participants at the 2008 INFORMS Professional Colloquium (IPC) held in Baltimore, Maryland. It asserts that the topic that was repeatedly discussed during break-out sessions was the strategic importance of operations research (OR) in the modern economic climate and how OR can help organizations improve their internal processes and development of innovative change in a competitive environment.
