Purpose: Existing literature shows conflicting views regarding street vendors in a place. They are considered both positive and negative. Their existence has rarely been examined from a combination of place-making and power theories. This research aimed (a) to identify the actors who transform Borobudur Food and Craft Market and the sources of power and actions carried out by these actors and (b) to find out the views of other actors about street vendors. Design/methodology/approach: The design used in this study was an instrumental case study. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews and photo documentation. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with several participants of as many as 12 persons consisting of 4 street vendors, 4 employees of the state-owned enterprise in charge of the Borobudur tourist site and 4 tourists. The data were analyzed through two-phased coding. To improve the credibility, participant validation was conducted. Findings: This study made new findings. First, in a place, there are formal and informal place-making actors who transform the place with the sources of power they have and the acts of power they carry out. Both formal and informal actors can perform coercive and noncoercive acts of power. This shows the existence of contested power in a setting. Second, street vendors are viewed positively as well as negatively. Comprehensive policies need to be implemented by key actors to minimize the negative sides of the existence of street vendors and optimize the benefits from them. Research limitations/implications: Data collection was carried out when the Indonesian government implemented restrictions on public activities during the pandemic. At that time, tourism activities were very limited. In the future, researchers can use other techniques such as the self-report visual method because not all street vendors are fluent in expressing their opinions in interviews. Practical implications: Both central and regional governments and local stakeholders can synergistically carry out a dialogue, seeking common ground to accommodate each other's interests. The next steps are to consistently apply the policies resulting from the dialogue and ensure that each actor plays a role according to their respective portion and authority. Originality/value: Previous studies typically explain power as the possession of resources and relational attributes. This study has taken a different point of view, namely about acts of power contested in a certain place. Actors who have power are not always those who have formal legitimacy. Informal parties are considered powerless despite having power.

Purpose: This study aims to capture a sense of place by analysing the physical attributes of the traditional shopping streets located in Indonesia and Malaysia through Instagram posts. Design/methodology/approach: This study adopted a direct content analysis using visual images of 400 posts of Indonesian and Malaysian respondents. The Instagram Application Programming Interface (API) was used to extract data from Instagram posts. It is then followed by the quantitative analysis to determine the frequencies of visual and narrative representations of physical attributes defining the sense of place. Findings: Five visual and narrative categories, namely architectural style, store design, special focal points, and the varieties of products and services that represent the physical attributes of shopping streets, were investigated. The findings would benefit the urban preservation initiatives so that the sense of place as authentic tourism destinations can be secured. Social implications: The awareness of the traditional shopping street as a place of character, especially from social media users, is able to create local values that lead to place imageability and promote national tourism. Originality/value: This study captured the sense of traditional places based on the people’s identifications that were shared on social media platforms. The posts’ preferences confirmed the significance of traditional shopping streets as a place of attraction and identity. The findings addressed the functions of physical attributes in sustaining the historical and authentic values of traditional shopping streets.

Atriums as quasi-internal public spaces in shopping centers play an essential role as an identity provider and offer spatial orientation in shopping center architecture. This study aims to examine the significant factors of atrium design, which can provide a sense of place for shopping center visitors.

This study is aimed at measuring the performance of entrepreneur in residence in order to improve students’ performances in entrepreneurship. This study takes place at Ciputra University, a university that focuses on entrepreneurship learning as its learning core. Entrepreneurship subject is a compulsory subject for students of all majors in Ciputra University and its approach of learning is experiential learning. The total credits for Entrepreneurship are 15 credits, which is divided into four subjects from Entrepreneurship 1 until Entrepreneurship 4 as prerequisite subjects. This study is conducted by using mixed method, focus group, and correlation analysis.

The aim of this research is to find out which public space plays a role in the formation of shopping center's image, to examine the intentionality of people's relationship to a shopping center, and to determine factors of public space design that create sense of place. The objects of research are two shopping centers in Indonesia. The research uses the method of Focus Group Discussion. In conclusion, the research finds that the image of a shopping center is formed by its corridors, atriums and dining areas or food courts. Meanwhile, the relationship of people to the shopping center has a variety of intentionality. The relationship existed is influenced by the interior element and interior design is an indicator for the success of public space design.

This study of how the atmospheric stimuli of stores can affect human behavior (of customers and employees) was divided into two stages. In the first stage, an exploratory research design was used to identify the attributes of the exogenous variables, namely the store exterior, store interior, interior layout, interior displays and human variables. The attributes obtained were then used to conduct the second stage of study using path analysis. The effect of the store on the behavior of customers was determined by the general interior and interior display, while the behavior of the employees was determined by the interior, the interior lay out and the interior display.
