Abstract

•Cigarette butts activated hydrochar was used for removal of methylene blue.•MB adsorption was researched including kinetic, equilibrium and thermodynamic study.•Methylene blue is adsorbed by electrostatic attraction.•Monolayer adsorption capacity of 635.21 mg g−1.•The adsorbent have good adsorption ability to remove methylene blue.
