Methods: Retrospective, observational, unicentric hospital-based study. The electronic medical records of new patients who presented to the Neuro-ophthalmology department of a tertiary eye hospital in the month of August 2022 were reviewed. Those with symptoms suggestive of an acute stroke requiring urgent neuroimaging were chosen for further study. Results: Out of the 710 new patients, 31 had a known CVA and presented with field defects (4.3%). We recognized nine new patients, subsequently diagnosed to have a CVA, initially presenting with ocular symptoms such as homonymous hemianopia in seven cases and two others as transient obscuration of vision and internuclear ophthalmoplegia. Conclusion: Posterior circulation strokes commonly present first to an ophthalmologist, the early recognition of which is of utmost importance. Herein, we describe five cases of children with TTE and their management at a tertiary care center. Materials and Methods: Five cases with complaints of inguinal hernia and undescended testis were presented to the department of pediatric Surgery at a tertiary care center have been taken up for the study. The history, investigations, surgical findings, and procedures were reviewed retrospectively. Case Summary: Of the five cases, one presented with irreducible inguinal hernia, two presented with unilateral hernia with contralateral undescended testis, and two presented with bilateral undescended testes. Inguinal herniotomy and transseptal orchiopexy were performed in all 5 cases. Three of the five cases were associated with persistent Müllerian duct syndrome (PMDS). Conclusion: In children with unilateral cryptorchidism and a contralateral descendent testis with an associated hernia, TTE should be suspected and ultrasonographic evaluation must be done to diagnose this condition before surgery. Transseptal orchiopexy is highly recommended to manage these cases especially when vasa deferentia are fused. In the case of PMDS, it is preferred to preserve Müllerian remnants. Methods: A total of 370 eligible patients with DED were randomized equally to receive twice-daily doses of a single drop in each eye of either lifitegrast 5% or CMC 0.5% for 12 weeks. Follow-up at weeks 2, 6, and 12 evaluated changes from baseline in primary [eye dryness score (EDS), ocular discomfort score (ODS), ocular surface disease index (OSDI), and tear film break-up time (TFBUT)] and secondary [Schirmer tear test (STT) score and corneal fluorescein staining (CFS) score] endpoints. Global improvement, safety, and tolerability were also assessed. Results: At week 2, values of ocular discomfort score, OSDI, and conjunctival redness were significantly more favorable in patients treated with lifitegrast compared to CMC. At week 6, values of all study variables were better in patients treated with lifitegrast compared to CMC; differences between the groups were statistically significant for all except photophobia. This trend was also maintained at week 12. Global improvement and tolerability were found to be better with lifitegrast than with CMC. No serious safety concerns were reported in any treatment group. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first active-controlled trial informing on the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of lifitegrast 5%. Significantly more favorable values for EDS (except photophobia), ODS, OSDI, TFBUT, STT score, CFS score, and conjunctival redness score were achieved at week 12 with lifitegrast 5% compared to CMC 0.5%. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of a school oral health education intervention on oral hygiene status and oral health-related knowledge among 5-18-year-old children in Andhra Pradesh, India. Materials and Methods: A cluster randomized clinical trial was conducted among all institutionalized hearing-impaired children and young adults residing in various special care schools in Nellore district. Plaque Control record, gingival index (GI), and Decayed Missed Filled Teeth/ decayed extracted filled teeth and Decayed Missed Filled surfaces/ decayed extracted filled surfaces (DMFT/deft, and DMFS/defs) index were recorded; participants were selected and were randomly allocated to two groups using lottery method with 50 subjects in each group, Group I: sign language and Group II: video skit. Results: In all the age groups, preintervention DMFT and postintervention GI, DMFT, and DMFS were statistically significant in the sign language group and in the video skit group. Postintervention DMFS shows a significant difference. Conclusion: When compared with video instruction skit, sign language shows significant improvement in the oral hygiene status of CHI. Materials and Methods: This was randomized controlled trial, in which 45 children with 60 young permanent first molars were allocated as; Group A: IPT with SDF, Group B: Type VII GIC, and Group C: Ca(OH)[sub.2]. Clinical and radiographic evaluation and comparison was done at baseline, 3, 6, 12 months. Data analysis was done using Chi-square test, one way ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc analysis test. The level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: On statistical analysis IPT with SDF showed 88.2, Type VII GIC showed 94.1 and Ca(OH) [sub.2] showed 88.2 success at 12 months' follow-up. However, intergroup comparison showed no statistical significant difference. The mean dentin bridge formation in SDF was 0.5467 ± 0.08338 mm, Type VII GIC (0.4813 ± 0.06551 mm) and Ca(OH)[sub.2] group (0.5 ± 0.07559 mm), which was statistically significant with a P = 0.049. Conclusions: On comparative evaluation, clinical and radiographic success for IPT with SDF, Type VII GIC and Ca (OH) [sub.2] were comparable. This study also concluded SDF and Type VII GIC can be used as IPT agents in permanent teeth. Dentin bridge formation was more in SDF followed by Ca(OH)[sub.2] and Type VII GIC, respectively. Baliga (corresponding author) [4] INTRODUCTION Cancer, a disease [...], Introduction: Chemotherapy in an integral part of cancer treatment, either administered alone or in combination with radiation. However, the cost of these drugs is often prohibitively high for most patients. To address this issue, the Government of India has established Jan Aushadhi (JAS) stores across the country, where affordable generic medicines are available. In the current study, we performed a cost minimization analysis comparing JAS drugs with branded chemotherapeutic drugs used in various cancer treatment regimens. Objectives: This study was to conduct a cost-minimization analysis by comparing the costs of different regimens when using JAS drugs, the most expensive branded drugs, and the least expensive branded drugs in the treatment of cancer in India. Materials and Methods: The study focused on conducting a cost minimization analysis of various chemotherapy drugs used in the treatment of different cancers, considering the availability of anticancer drugs at JAS stores. The costs for different chemotherapy regimens, including both anticancer and supportive drugs, were calculated for single and complete cycles. The costs of the most expensive and least expensive branded drugs were noted from the Current Index of Medical Stores. The cost difference (CD) was calculated by subtracting the cost of the cheaper drug from that of the costliest brand. The cost ratio (CR) and the percentage of cost variation (PCV) were calculated for India-specific conditions. Results: The study analyzed the CD for various regimens using JAS drugs for chemotherapy treatment of breast, esophagus, rectal, colon, stomach, prostate, ovary, endometrial, cervical, head and neck, lung, multiple myeloma, testicular, and lymphoma cancers. It also considered chemoirradiation regimens for brain, head and neck, anorectal, esophageal, and uterine cervical cancers. Significant CDs were observed when both anticancer and supportive drugs were obtained from JAS stores. Conclusion: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to consider the CD, CR, and PCV for various regimens using JAS drugs, as well as the costliest and cheapest branded drugs in standard cancer treatment regimens. The results of this study are expected to assist healthcare professionals and pharmacists in understanding the cost-saving benefits of substituting expensive branded drugs with more affordable chemotherapeutic drugs for the treatment of cancer. Abstract: Author(s): Vasumathy Vedantham (corresponding author) [1]; Praveen Krishna Ratnagiri [1] Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a blinding disorder affecting preterm babies.[sup.[1,2]] India accounts for the maximum number of preterm births [...], Aim: To analyze the incidence of sight-threatening retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in premature infants in rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh from 2018 to 2021, and to analyze its association with birthweight (BW), gestational age (GA), and postconceptional age (PCA). Methods: Project Vision on Wheels is a free ROP screening and treatment program initiated by a tertiary eye care center in South India in June 2018 to screen preterm infants in rural areas in 11 centers in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by trained technicians. Infants with sight-threatening ROP were immediately shifted for vision-preserving laser. Results: Of the 18,117 infants screened from 2018 to 2021, 1046 infants underwent laser, with the majority being bigger and more mature when compared to Western data. There was a yearly increase in the number of infants with sight-threatening ROP in the lower BW, GA, and PCA categories. The timely detection of the condition by committed screening led to salvage of vision by timely laser in 100% of the treated babies in all the years. The incidence of sight-threatening ROP had a yearly decrease in higher BW, GA, and PCA categories. These trends were statistically significant (P = 0.001 for ROP and BW, P = 0.037 for ROP and GA, and P = 0.001 for ROP and PCA). Conclusion: The statistically significant trend of decreasing sight-threatening ROP in babies with higher BW, GA, and PCA and increasing treatable ROP in younger and smaller babies (with lower BWs, GAs, and PCAs) in rural India, over time, is a hitherto unreported finding. This is the first such study in rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh combined, with the largest data to date (as per MEDLINE search) to document this healthier trend. Methods: Retrospective case series 2013-2023. Results: Seven cases of MS-associated uveitis were retrieved from our databases. There were five females and two males. The diagnosis of MS was made by the neurologist in all cases. Bilaterality was seen in all cases. Intermediate uveitis was the most common presentation (five cases). It was associated with peripheral retinal vasculitis (two cases) and disc pallor (two cases). Fuchs heterochromic iridocyclitis (one case) and incomplete Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH)-like presentation with a peripapillary choroidal neovascular membrane (one case) were the other presentations. In the case with incomplete VKH-like presentation, whole genome sequencing revealed a heterozygous non-synonymous variation (c.1228C>T) in exon 10 of TNFRSF1A, suggestive of susceptibility to multiple sclerosis 5 due to mutation in the TNFRS1A gene on chromosome 12p13.31. All cases received systemic steroids. Azathioprine (three cases) and rituximab (three cases) were the commonly used immunomodulatory drugs. The visual outcome was good in all cases at the last follow-up. Conclusion: MS-associated uveitis is underreported in India. This series highlights the clinical profile of MS-associated uveitis in India. Abstract: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of clonal hematological illnesses defined by inefficient hematopoiesis, varying degrees of peripheral cytopenia, and a propensity to develop acute myeloid leukemia (AML). (1-3) There [...], Purpose To study the potential utility of danazol for treating patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, with a focus on efficacy and adverse effects (AEs). Methods MEDLINE In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations, MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus were searched for relevant publications from inception June 1, 1950, until June 28, 2022. The studies were screened by title and abstract, followed by full-text screening. The quality of the included studies was assessed via a prespecified set of questionnaires. Data on the efficacy measures and adverse outcomes were extracted and included in a descriptive summary. Results Nine studies consisting of 246 participants were included in our review. The overall quality of the included studies was fair. The age of the participants ranged from 61 to 78 years. In all 9 studies, more male patients had been enrolled than female patients. Overall, a proportion of patients in all the studies reported a desired major response to a danazol dose of 400 to 800 mg/day. Few studies did not observe any improvement in the platelet count. Elevated liver enzyme levels, weight gain, headache, dermatitis, and weakness were the most common AEs observed. One study reported a fatal intracerebral hemorrhage in 1 participant. Conclusions Danazol has been effective in increasing platelet count and hemoglobin level. Despite a few AEs, danazol is a safe drug for the treatment of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.

Abstract: The goal of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators is to reach normal CFTR function in people with cystic fibrosis. Vanzacaftor–tezacaftor–deutivacaftor restored CFTR function in vitro and in phase 2 trials in participants aged 18 years and older resulting in improvements in CFTR function, as measured by sweat chloride concentrations and lung function as measured by spirometry. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of vanzacaftor–tezacaftor–deutivacaftor compared with standard of care elexacaftor–tezacaftor–ivacaftor in individuals with cystic fibrosis aged 12 years and older.

Abstract: AbstractNS3-4A, a serine protease, is a primary target for drug development against Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). However, the effectiveness of potent next-generation protease inhibitors is limited by the emergence of mutations and resulting drug resistance. To address this, in this study a structure-based drug design approach is employed to screen a large library of 7320 natural compounds against both wild-type and mutant variants of NS3-4A protease. Telaprevir, a widely used protease inhibitor, was recruited as the control drug. The top 10 compounds with favorable binding affinities underwent drug-likeness evaluation. Based on ADMET studies, complexes of NP_024762 and NP_006776 were selected for molecular dynamic simulations. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed to explore the conformational space and protein dynamics of the protein-ligand complex using a Free Energy Landscape (FEL) approach. The cosine values obtained from FEL analysis ranged from 0 to 1, and eigenvectors with cosine values below 0.2 were chosen for further analysis. To forecast binding free energies and evaluate energy contributions per residue, the MM-PBSA method was employed. The results highlighted the crucial role of amino acids in the catalytic domain for the binding of the protease with phytochemicals. Stable associations between the top compounds and the target protease were confirmed by the formation of hydrogen bonds in the binding pocket involving residues: His1057, Gly1137, Ser1139, and Ala1157. These findings suggest the potential of these compounds for further validation through biological evaluation.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma

Abstract: In clinical practice to treat complex injuries, the application of electrical stimulation (ES) directly to the skin complicates the wound. In this work, the effect of a conductive hydrogel mediated electric field on skin regeneration is investigated. Polypyrrole incorporated matrices of gelatin and silk fibroin were prepared by two-step interfacial polymerization. The maximum electrical conductivity of 10–4S cm–1was achieved when 200 mM polypyrrole was loaded. Mechanically stable and cytocompatible hydrogels were evidenced to have antioxidant and blood compatible characteristics. Human dermal fibroblast cells responded to pulsed stimulation of 100 or 300 mV mm–1as observed from the increased expressions of TGFβ1, αSMA, and COLIAI genes. Further, the increase in the αSMA protein expression with the magnitude of electrical stimulation also suggested transdifferentiation of the fibroblast to myofibroblast. Moreover, Raman spectroscopy identified two fingerprint regions (collagen and lipid) to differentiate ES treated and nontreated samples. Therefore, the combination of hydrogels and electrical stimulation has potential therapeutic effects for accelerating the rate of skin regeneration.

Abstract: Despite the well documented consequences of obesity during childhood and adolescence and future risks of excess body mass on non-communicable diseases in adulthood, coordinated global action on excess body mass in early life is still insufficient. Inconsistent measurement and reporting are a barrier to specific targets, resource allocation, and interventions. In this Article we report current estimates of overweight and obesity across childhood and adolescence, progress over time, and forecasts to inform specific actions.

Abstract: Metastable states, in which the coupling between long-range lattice deformations and electronic properties can be controlled, provide a pathway to tailoring the behavior of photocatalytic materials by directing the flow of photoinduced charge carriers. Brookite is a metastable polymorph of earth-abundant TiO2that exhibits photocatalytic function and, due to its high energy relative to the anatase and rutile polymorphs, may serve as a precursor for the formation of transitional metastable structures. In this work, facile thermal annealing is employed to promote the formation of predominantly brookite-phase films, regulate the brookite lattice distortions, and determine the effect of these distortions on charge separation, ultimately directed at enhancing photocatalytic activity. Profile fitting of X-ray diffraction patterns and peak shifts in Raman spectra revealed structural distortions of the brookite lattice. Structural defects, including lattice gliding, dislocations, stacking faults, and twin boundaries, were observed using scanning transmission electron microscopy. First-principles simulations reveal how the lattice distortions associated with stacking faults induce band bending, thus increasing the photocatalytic activity of brookite. This study provides insight into the microstructural tuning of metastable phases to enhance their unique functionalities.

Abstract: Two amine-templated manganese complexes are synthesized via a one-pot solvothermal process of the formulas {[((CH3)2NH2)4(C3H5N2)3][Mn4(SO4)6F3]·2(H2O)}n, 1and {[(CH3)2NH2]2[Mn4(SO4)4F2(C4H4N2)]}n, 2. Both possess similar butterfly-shaped tetrameric clusters connected by μ2-F in 1and pyrazine in 2, which are further linked by coordinated sulfates, leading to a helical chain in 1and a three-dimensional (3D) network in 2. The dc-magnetic results show intercluster coupling in both compounds. The susceptibility, as well as isothermal magnetization, indicates the presence of intercluster long-range ferrimagnetic ordering for 1and antiferromagnetic ordering for 2. The first-principles calculations revealed a ferrimagnetic ground state for the isolated tetrameric cluster in both 1and 2. However, compound 1exhibits a ferromagnetic ground state, whereas 2exhibits an antiferromagnetic ground state by considering the intercluster exchange interaction through bridging F and pyrazine for 1and 2, respectively.

25. Impact of systematic screening for social determinants of health in a level IV neonatal intensive care unit

Abstract: Objective: To determine whether screening for social determinants of health (SDoH) in a level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) could uncover additional family needs. Methods: Secondary analysis of a prospective study in a level IV NICU. Participants filled out the Protocol for Responding to and Assessing Patients’ Assets, Risks and Experiences (PRAPARE) tool, which includes economic, housing, transportation, and safety questions. Questionnaires were completed via secure tablet; the research team notified social workers of reported needs. Illness and demographic characteristics were compared between families who did and did not report resource needs. Manual chart review assessed subsequent response to reported SDoH needs. Results: Of 319 respondents, 61(19%) reported resource needs. Of 61 families, 88% received repeat social work encounters to re-assess for resources; 59% received new resource referrals. Conclusions: Systematic SDoH screening can identify needs throughout the NICU stay, even among families already connected to social work support.

Abstract: The earth’s ecosystems are negatively impacted by the development of agriculture in both terrestrial and marine environments. Cropland losses, water scarcity, species infestations, land degradation, and climate change all work together to generate a 25% reduction in agricultural productivity. In order to achieve sustainable food production and security through the green revolution and environmentally benign methods, the world requires a paradigm shift in the development of agriculture. Therefore, agricultural practices must be supported by farmland’s capacity to produce enough food to meet human requirements forever, as well as by having long-term effects on the environment. This study offers a novel method for analysing healthcare in metropolitan areas based on food security using machine learning and remote sensing. In this instance, the data was gathered as health analysis data based on food security and processed to eliminate missing values. Then, a reinforcement recurrent term frequency Markov bi-directional Bayesian neural network was used to choose and classify this data. Two components: a text data training model and a server-side module for attribute estimation techniques. We tested with multiple food categories, each with hundreds of photographs, machine learning training, in an effort to achieve higher categorisation accuracy. In terms of F1-score, RMSE, recall, precision, and accuracy of predictions, an experimental investigation has been conducted. Proposed technique attained prediction accuracy 98%, F-1 score 95%, PRECISION 94%, Recall 97%, RMSE 52%.

Abstract: Regulatory T (Treg) cells are a specialized CD4+T cell lineage with essential anti-inflammatory functions. Analysis of Tregcell adaptations to non-lymphoid tissues that enable their specialized immunosuppressive and tissue-supportive functions raises questions about the underlying mechanisms of these adaptations and whether they represent stable differentiation or reversible activation states. Here, we characterize distinct colonic effector Tregcell transcriptional programs. Attenuated T cell receptor (TCR) signaling and acquisition of substantial TCR-independent functionality seems to facilitate the terminal differentiation of a population of colonic effector Tregcells that are distinguished by stable expression of the immunomodulatory cytokine IL-10. Functional studies show that this subset of effector Tregcells, but not their expression of IL-10, is indispensable for colonic health. These findings identify core features of the terminal differentiation of effector Tregcells in non-lymphoid tissues and their function.

29. The Making of an Open Defecation-Free Village: Social Reality of the Swachh Bharat Mission in Tribal Rajasthan

Abstract: Launched in 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) is a flagship programme of the Indian government. In 2018–2019, the official SBM figures claimed that 99.08 per cent of Indian households used toilets, making this the most successful programme in India’s developmental history. This article narrates how the SBM achieved statistical success but failed in promoting toilet use. It is based on fieldwork conducted in Kanpur Gram Panchayat situated in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The field data show that the officials pressured the panchayat functionaries to construct toilets hastily and declared villages as open defecation free (ODF) to achieve statistical goals. This race to get an ODF village status did not do much good at the grassroots level because the constructed toilets remained incomplete or dysfunctional due to scarcity and non-availability of water. In reality, it was found that the toilets were being used to store firewood, dung cakes, and agricultural implements. In the fast urbanising and industrialising landscape of southern Rajasthan, the success of sustainable sanitation infrastructure largely depends on empowering scheduled tribes and flattening structural inequalities.

The processed image features have been segmented using active contour Gaussian Q- histogram equalisation model and feature extracted using probabilistic Bayesian fuzzy transfer NN. Experimental analysis is carried out based on parameters like random accuracy, average precision, sensitivity, AUC, and normalized co-efficient. The proposed technique attained average precision was 95%, sensitivity was 97%, random accuracy was 98%, and normalized coefficient was 94%, AUC of 96%.

Abstract: Urban heat island (UHI) effects, especially in highly urbanised areas, and greenhouse gas emissions from human activity are two elements that accelerate global climate change (GCC). Sustainable city planning and modification may benefit from the quantification of the surface UHI (SUHI) effect utilising land surface temperature (LST), local climate zones (LCZ), and deep learning methods like convolutional neural networks (CNN) and pix2pix. The findings show that socioeconomic variables account for 12–20% of variability in UHI intensity. In general, the contribution rate of urban economic scale is higher than that of population and industrial structure variables. The increase in urban economic expansion increased summertime heat discomfort. This research propose novel method in socioeconomic analysis based on urban heat pattern analysis with public healthcare system using decision-making with DL (deep learning) model. Input is collected as urban heat pattern dataset and processed for noise removal and normalisation. This data has been features are extracted and classified using convolutional fuzzy Q-Gaussian neural network and variational K-C-means regressive learning. The simulation analysis has been carried out based on training accuracy, average precision, recall, and F-measure. The proposed model attained average precision was 94%, recall was 90%, training accuracy was 97%, and F1-score was 92%.

Abstract: The growing global energy demand and the need to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions have driven the exploration of sustainable and efficient energy solutions. In Algeria, where the energy sector relies heavily on fossil fuels, integrating renewable energy systems is essential for enhancing energy security and reducing environmental impacts. This study focuses on optimizing a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for off-grid applications in the Hassi Messaoud region of Algeria to balance technical performance, economic viability, and environmental sustainability. A hybrid system consisting of photovoltaic (PV) panels, wind turbines (WTs), fuel cells (FCs), and diesel generators (DGs) was modeled and optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA). The optimization process aims to minimize the annual cost of the system while ensuring high reliability, as measured by the loss of power supply probability, and maximizing the use of renewable energy. A particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach was also implemented for comparison, highlighting the advantages of the GA in terms of cost distribution and system reliability. The optimized HRES demonstrated that renewable sources (PV and WT) provided 77% of the total energy demand, with an overall system cost of 0.18080 $·kWh−1, significantly lower than recent studies, which reported costs between 0.213 and 0.609 $·kWh−1. FCs contributed 14% to the load, whereas DGs were limited to 8% to minimize emissions, resulting in annual CO2emissions of 10,865 kg and a relative emission rate of 3.608 gCO2eq·kWh−1. Economic analysis showed that DGs and FCs accounted for 44% and 24% of the annual cost, respectively, highlighting the impact of backup systems in ensuring reliability. Sensitivity analysis under varying load demands and renewable energy availability confirmed the robustness of the system, and the GA approach was found to be more effective than PSO in maintaining cost efficiency and reliability. Additionally, the social analysis highlighted a renewable fraction of 91.5%, emphasizing the contribution of the system to sustainable energy practices. These findings validate GA-based optimization as a superior method for designing cost-effective, reliable, and environmentally sustainable HRES, offering significant potential to reduce fossil fuel dependency in industrial applications. These results not only support the broader adoption of renewable energy systems in similar regions but also contribute valuable insights for future research and policy development in the field of energy sustainability.

Abstract: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) are highly versatile materials based on inorganic modes connected via organic linkers or purely via the connection of organic building blocks, respectively. This results in 3-D nanoporous frameworks, which, due to their combination of high porosity and variability of building blocks, can exhibit exceptional properties that make them attractive. Certain applications (e.g., in electronics and as membranes) require a thin film or even a patterned morphology on various substrates. Inkjet printing of MOFs has emerged as a simple and effective technique for the scalable production of a wide range of MOF (gradient) films and patterns on a wide range of substrates according to specific requirements. This review comprehensively reviews the achievements in inkjet printing of both MOFs and COFs. We discuss the different substrates, ink formulation, and hardware intertwined requirements needed to achieve high-resolution printing and obtain desired properties such as porosity, physical-mechanical characteristics, and uniform thickness. Crucial aspects related to ink formulation, such as colloidal stability and size control of MOFs and COFs, are discussed. Additionally, we highlight potential opportunities for furthering the development of inkjet printing of MOFs/COFs and critically assess the reporting of the printing procedures and characterization of the resultant materials. In this manner, this review aims to contribute to the advancements in understanding and optimization of inkjet printing of MOFs and COFs, as this technique holds great potential for diverse applications and functionalization of MOF/COF films and patterns.

44. Foraging strategies of three co-occurring ibis species (Black-headed, Glossy and Red-naped) in a semi-arid landscape of western India

Abstract: It has been considered that the coexistence of similar species is facilitated by the differentiation in their foraging habits. We sought to test this hypothesis by evaluating the foraging behavior and factors influencing the foraging success of three coexisting ibis species – Black-headed ibis (Threskiornis melanocephalus), Red-naped ibis (Pseudibis papillosa), and Glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) – in the semi-arid landscape of western India from January 2020 to April 2022. Overall, foraging parameters were similar among the species, except for inter-individual parameters (P < 0.05) and for the number of locomotion turns each species performed. Probing and the number of nearby wading birds significantly and positively influenced the foraging success of all the Ibis species studied. Seasonal variations affected the foraging success only for the Red-naped Ibis and within a season, the foraging success was significantly different between species. All species showed different water depth utilization for foraging. Red-naped Ibis used habitats other than wetlands without impacting its foraging success. Also, the foraging success differed between adults and juveniles of the Red-naped ibis but remained consistent for the Black-headed ibis. These findings can aid the future development of hypotheses related to how similar species coexist and help in management and conservation efforts for these species.

Abstract: IMPORTANCE: Neoadjuvant therapy (NT) is an increasingly used treatment strategy for patients with localized pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Little research has been conducted on cancer care delivery during NT, and the standards for optimal delivery of NT have not been defined. OBJECTIVE: To develop consensus best practices for delivering NT to patients with localized PDAC. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This study used a modified Delphi approach consisting of 2 rounds of voting, and a series of virtual conferences (from October to December 2023) to reach expert consensus on candidate best practice statements generated from a systematic review of the literature and expert opinion. An interdisciplinary panel was formed including 47 North American experts from surgical, medical, and radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology, integrative oncology, anesthesia, pharmacy, nursing, cancer care delivery research, and nutrition as well as patient and caregiver stakeholders. MAIN OUTCOME AND MEASURES: Statements that reached 75% agreement or greater were included in final consensus statements. RESULTS: Of the 47 participating panel members, 27 (57.64%) were male, and the mean (SD) age was 47.6 (8.2) years. Physicians reported completing training a mean (SD) 14.6 (8.6) years prior and seeing a mean (SD) 110.6 (38.4) patients with PDAC annually; 35 (77.7%) were in academic practice. Final consensus was reached on 82 best practices for delivering NT. Of these, 38 statements focused on pre-NT practices, including diagnosis and staging (n = 15), evaluation and optimization (n = 20), and decision-making (n = 3); 29 statements defined best practices during NT, including initiation (n = 3), delivery of therapy (n = 8), restaging practices (n = 12), and management of complications during NT (n = 6); and 15 best practices were identified to guide treatment post-NT, focusing on surgery (n = 7), pathology (n = 4), and follow-up (n = 3). CONCLUSIONS: Using a modified Delphi consensus technique, best practice guidelines were developed focusing on the optimal standards for delivering NT to patients with localized PDAC. Given the prognostic importance of completing multimodality therapy, efforts to standardize and optimize the delivery of NT represent an immediate opportunity to decrease care variation and improve outcomes for patients with PDAC. Future research should focus on validating and implementing best practice standards into clinical practice.

46. Scalar politics of Indigenous waterscapes in Navajo Nation and Nepal: Conflict, conservation and development

Abstract: We use case studies of the Diné in the United States of America, and the Musahar people in Nepal, to understand how indigeneity is enacted in relation to the developmental and conservationist impulses of the dominant American and Nepalese states. We mobilize the concept of ‘waterscapes’ as assemblages of practices, technologies, emotions and worldviews, to unpack how geographical scales are produced and contested through symbolic and material practices. We find that the Diné of the Navajo Nation have socially differentiated engagement with the techno-legal assemblages embedded in the US Western water law and the water development infrastructure, e.g. the Glen Canyon Dam, that enables the tourism economy. The Musahar people, much like the Diné, have been excluded from their customary livelihoods as global-scale conservation was enacted in their waterscapes through techno-legal assemblages including the Chitwan National Park and water development and conservation policies for the Narayani River. In both the United States and Nepal, centralized agencies of the US federal government and the Nepali state tend to perpetuate exclusionary geographies of access to water and Indigenous livelihoods in the waterscapes. The national and international scales, at times, violently constrict local-scale Indigenous spaces. But the oppositional symbolic and material practices, of both the Diné and the Musahar, destabilize the dominant ontologies on local waterscapes. This paper demonstrates that across vast distances of history, geography and wealth, indigeneity does not just get repressed or occluded by the dominant state but is instead constantly reimagined and re-enacted in creative ways by the Indigenous People themselves.

49. Synergistic enhancement of oil recovery: Integrating anionic-nonionic surfactant mixtures, SiO2nanoparticles, and polymer solutions for optimized crude oil extraction

Abstract: Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods are essential for optimizing oil extraction from modern reservoirs. This research delved into the synergistic impact of combining anionic and nonionic surfactant mixtures with silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) in sodium chloride (NaCl) solutions, alongside the added enhancement of polymers, to improve crude oil recovery. The study comprehensively evaluated stability, rheological characteristics, interfacial tension (IFT) behavior, wettability alterations, and EOR experiments using mixtures of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and triton X-100 (TX-100) surfactants. Scenarios both with and without SiO2NPs in a base solution containing 3000 ppm NaCl and 2000 ppm xanthan gum (XG) polymer were examined. Core flooding tests were carried out on San-Saba sandstone core specimens with low permeability. The stability tests and dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis were performed to assess the stability of NPs in low saline-surfactant-polymer solution. It was observed that NPs significantly reduced the IFT between the test solutions and crude oil, with nanofluids exhibiting satisfactory stability at a 0.4 wt% SiO2NPs concentration. Core flooding studies demonstrated a synergistic interaction between NPs and the binary surfactant-polymer mixture, resulting in substantially greater incremental recovery of oil in comparison with the case of using binary surfactant-polymer combination alone. The mechanisms contributing to EOR with nanofluids, such as IFT reduction and wettability alteration, were explored. Incorporating NPs at concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 wt% led to incremental oil recoveries of 4.01%, 12.35%, and 12.73% of the original oil in place (OOIP), respectively, as opposed to the recovery achieved using only SDS + TX-100 + XG. Consequently, these findings advance the understanding of the potential application of SiO2NPs in combination with the binary surfactant-polymer mixture as effective chemical EOR agents. Additionally, these insights aid in identifying suitable sandstone reservoirs for nanofluid application, contributing to the optimization of oil recovery strategies.

50. Perioperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in liver transplantation—bridge to transplantation, intraoperative salvage, and postoperative support: outcomes and predictors for survival in a large-volume liver transplant center

Abstract: Data on perioperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in liver transplantation (LT) are scarce. ECMO has been used preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively for a variety of indications at our center. This retrospective, single-center study of ECMO use peri-LT aimed to describe predictors for successful outcome in this highly select cohort of patients. Demographics, support method, and indication for LT were compared between survivors and nonsurvivors. Twenty-nine patients received venovenous (V-V; n= 20), venoarterial (V-A; n= 8), and venoarteriovenous (n= 1) ECMO. Twelve (41.4%) patients were bridged to emergency LT for acute liver failure, and emergency redo LT. Four (13.3%) patients required intraoperative V-A ECMO salvage, 2 necessitating extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Thirteen (43.3%) patients required ECMO support after LT: V-V ECMO (n = 9); V-A ECMO (n = 1); and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (n= 3) between postoperative days 2 to 30. Overall, 19 patients (65.5%) were successfully weaned off ECMO; 15 (51.7%) survived to intensive care unit discharge. All patients who underwent intraoperative salvage ECMO and all who were bridged to emergency redo LT died. Peri-LT ECMO is feasible. Post-LT ECMO outcomes are encouraging, in particular for V-V ECMO. Intraoperative ECMO salvage, uncontrolled sepsis, and graft failure are associated with poor outcomes.
