Sassani (d) Abstract: This paper presents a novel, two-level mixed-integer programming model of scheduling N jobs on M parallel machines that minimizes bi-objectives, namely the number of tardy jobs and the total completion time of all the jobs. The proposed model considers unrelated parallel machines. The jobs have non-identical due dates and ready times, and there are some precedence relations between them. Furthermore, sequence-dependent setup times, which are included in the proposed model, may be different for each machine depending on their characteristics. Obtaining an optimal solution for this type of complex, large-sized problem in reasonable computational time using traditional approaches or optimization tools is extremely difficult. This paper proposes an efficient genetic algorithm (GA) to solve the bi-objective parallel machine scheduling problem. The performance of the presented model and the proposed GA is verified by a number of numerical experiments. The related results show the effectiveness of the proposed model and GA for small and large-sized problems. The success rate of a squeeze cementing operation is generally low due to complexities in the range of potential leakage pathways and enormous uncertainty in characterizing these pathways. This work aims first to develop a physically based numerical model of the key part of the squeeze cementing operation, i.e. invasion of cement slurry into a realistic microannuli geometry under operational conditions. Secondly, it aims to account for uncertainties by using statistical tools combined with the deterministic model to deliver probabilistic information regarding outcomes. This paper develops this novel risk-based approach. The first objective of this work is to build upon our previous model, which focused on a single-perforation injection scenario. We reconstruct a multi-perforation injection scenario by collocating radial (single-perforation) invasion flows. We use this model to investigate the invasion of a viscoplastic fluid, representing a cement slurry, into a randomized varying width microannulus channel. The second objective is to investigate the effect of relevant parameters on leakage reduction. This is broken into two parts. First, how effectively the squeeze operation fills the microannulus around a perforation, explored through metrics that quantify penetration/filling. Second, what effect the penetration/filling has on the leakage of the entire well, i.e. given that the squeeze operation is local. We compare the effect of different perforation patterns and rheological parameters on penetration/filling metrics and on the reduction of leakage. We generate a probability distribution of leakage rates before and after the operation. In this way can estimate both the mean reduction in leakage for different perforation patterns, and associated confidence intervals. Such predictions have not been made before. Our results demonstrate the inherent uncertainty of a squeeze operation, which arises from the geometrical complexity. Practically, this suggests that higher perforation density and lower yield stress slurry will lead to higher success rates, as is intuitive. However, the spread of uncertainty in outcomes is not reduced much by such practices, meaning that one can still be unlucky in perforating the wrong part of the annulus.

Objective:Aloe verais a medicinal plant that has been traditionally used to accelerate wound healing. Olive oil is also a natural product that may contribute to wound healing owing to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of an Aloe vera–olive oil (AVO) combination cream on the healing process of chronic wounds.Method:In this randomised, double-blind, comparator-controlled, parallel-group trial, patients with chronic wounds were treated with either AVO cream or phenytoin cream as the standard treatment for a period of 30 days. Wound healing was evaluated using Bates-Jensen assessment tool and the severity of pain was assessed using a visual analogue scale (VAS).Results:After initial assessment, 60 patients with chronic wounds (41 with pressure ulcer, 13 with diabetic wounds and 6 with venous ulcers), were recruited and randomised into 2 groups of 30. After 30 days of treatment, significant improvements in the wound size, depth, and edges; necrotic tissue type and amount; exudate type and amount; colour of wound surroundings; and peripheral tissue oedema score were observed in the AVO cream group (p<0.001). The total score of wound healing showed significant improvement with both AVO (p<0.001) and phenytoin (p<0.01) creams, although AVO was more efficacious (p<0.001). Likewise, although both treatments reduced the initial VAS score, the efficacy of AVO was significantly greater (p<0.001).Conclusion:AVO cream significantly accelerates biological healing of chronic wounds and helps to reduce pain severity with a higher efficacy compared with phenytoin cream.

Purpose. To evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic-coated pins for prevention of pin tract infection in a rabbit model.Methods. 10 rabbits were divided into 2 groups. A unilateral external fixator was applied to the tibia with 4 self-taping 1.8-mm pins. In the test group, pins were coated with hydroxyapatite and antibiotic. In the control group, pins were not coated. All pins were then placed in Staphylococcus aureus–containing media. At postoperative day 5, all 40 pin sites were subcutaneously inoculated with S aureus. The sites were clinically examined for signs of pin tract infection. Nine days later, a piece of soft tissue around the pin site was harvested for microbiologic examination.Results. In the test group, all except one pin sites appeared clean and without clinical infection, and the culture media remained clear. In the control group, all pin sites showed evidence of clinical infection and yielded positive cultures, and the culture media became dark indicating growth of S aureus.Conclusion. Antibiotic-coated pins were effective in preventing pin tract infection.
