Polarization degree of helium-like Cl-Heαline (1s21S0- 1s2p 1P1) from a chrolinated triple-layer target was measured using a 130 fs laser pulse at 1017W/cm2. The polarization degree was given as a function of overcoat thickness. It was found that the emission from a layer closer to the target surface is polarized parallel to the surface direction whereas emission from a deeper region in perpendicular to the surface. The experimental result was analyzed using a two dimensional (2D) Maxwellian distribution function for hot electrons. Beam-like distribution was found in the depth of plasma.

Experimental study on energy transport in ultra-high intensity laser plasma was made. X-ray emission from a triple-layer target irradiated at 1019?W?cm?2was observed with x-ray spectrographs, monochromatic imagers and an x-ray polarimeter to provide a temperature profile in the depth of the target, lateral extension of the heated region and the velocity distribution function of hot electrons. For PW plasma, a very shallow region (~0.5?µm from the target surface) was heated up to 650?eV but the temperature of deeper region (up to 5?µm) was around 100?eV. These depths are much shorter than those expected from the classical penetration of the hot electrons. The localized energy deposition is also found for the plasma generated at 1017?W?cm?2, and the degree of polarization of the helium-like Cl-He? line (1s2?1S0-1s2p?1P1) from the surface region is polarized parallel to the surface direction whereas that from a deeper region is in perpendicular to it. An efficient endothermic reduction of bis(2-dipyridyl)disulfide (RSSR) to 2-mercaptopyridine by H2O has been found to proceed selectively using TiO2 as a photocatalyst. With 0.24 wt % loading of Ag nanoclusters (<1 nm) on TiO2, the reduction was significantly enhanced concomitantly by a 17.9-fold increase in the saturated adsorption amount of RSSR due to specific Ag−S interaction. A reaction mechanism involving H2O oxidation as the rate-determining step is proposed on the basis of adsorption and kinetic data analyses. In this reaction system, the respective adsorption of the oxidant (RSSR) on the reduction sites (Ag) and the reductant (H2O) on the oxidation sites (TiO2) is realized. The reaction-promoting effect of the Ag loading can be attributed to this selective adsorption as well as the increases in the adsorption amount and the efficiency of charge separation.

According to the experimental conditions, the thermal decomposition of the 7-phenyl-7-phosphanorbornadiene−W(CO)5 complex 1 affords the diphosphene complex 3 (60 °C, CuCl as a catalyst), the triphosphirane complex 4 (120 °C, 8 h), or the tetraphosphetane complex 5 (120 °C, 15 h). The reaction of 3 with alkynes at 120 °C in toluene gives the corresponding 1,2-dihydro-1,2-diphosphete complexes 6−8 in modest yield (ca. 25%) via a [2 + 2] cycloaddition. This result gives some insight into the reaction of cyclopolyphosphines with alkynes.
