Combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) has improved the survival of patients with HIV/AIDS but its impact remains uncertain on the changing prevalence and incidence of neurologic disorders with ensuing effects on mortality.

Background:The purpose of this study was to identify clinical factors that predict treatment length for patients with Class II malocclusions. Methods: A sample of 237 active retention patients representing 3 observational groups (Angle Class I nonextraction, and Class II Division 1 extraction and nonextraction), based on specific selection criteria, was obtained from 3 private offices. From the patient records, data were collected in these categories: (1) patient information, (2) model information, (3) pretreatment cephalogram information, and (4) treatment information. Two regression analyses were completed, with total treatment time as the dependent variable for both models. Results: The first regression analysis (Class I and Class II patients) indicated significant predictors for the patient, model, and cephalometric variables. These predictors included age, pretreatment overjet, and pretreatment ANB angle. The second regression analysis (Class II treatment variables) identified the following factors as significantly associated with treatment length: (1) type of Class II appliance, (2) number of months of Class II appliance wear, (3) number of months of interarch elastic wear, (4) maxillary expansion, (5) number of debonds, and (6) average time (weeks) between appointments. Conclusions: Six variables explained 56.7% of the variation in Class II treatment length. Further research is required to help explain more of the variance associated with treatment duration.

Poly-3-hydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) produced by Pseudomonas oleovorans grown solely with 6-phenoxyhexanoate, 8-phenoxyoctanoate, and 11-phenoxyundecanoate were investigated. Weight fractions of PHAs in dry cells were ~10%, regardless of the carbon substrate used. DSC thermograms of these polymers showed no crystalline melting endotherm. Glass transition temperatures were ~20 °C, and number-average molecular weights were ~65 000, with polydispersity indexes of 2.7 for all PHAs. GC/MS analysis showed that 3-hydroxy-5-phenoxypentanoate was the main repeating unit in the PHA produced from 11-phenoxyundecanoate, and 3-hydroxy-4-phenoxybutyrate was the main repeating unit in PHAs produced from 6-phenoxyhexanoate and 8-phenoxyoctanoate.

To produce economically important indole alkaloids by cell culture, we have selected protoclones ofCatharanthus roseusfor high yields of catharanthine and ajmalicine. Protoplasts were enzymatically isolated from suspension-cultured cells. Protoclone VPC-10 produced catharanthine at 5.9 μg/g fresh wt of cells after 10 days of culture, although the original cell line did not produce it at a level detectable by HPLC. Under the same conditions, protoclone VPC-15 produced ajmalicine at 133.6 μg/g, which was about 3 times the productivity of the original cell line. In addition, the indole alkaloids were qualitatively confirmed by LC-MS.

This research is performed to examine the sensitivity of digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) components and modules used in regulating and protection systems architectures of nuclear industry. Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) was performed for four configurations of RPS channel architecture. The channel unavailability has been calculated by using AIMS-PSA, which comes out 4.517E-03, 2.551E-03, 2.246E-03 and 2.7613-04 for architecture configuration I, II, III and IV respectively. It is observed that unavailability decreases by 43.5 % & 50.4% by inserting partial redundancy whereas maximum reduction of 93.9 % in unavailability happens when double redundancy is inserted in architecture. Coincidence module output failure and bi-stable output failures are identified as sensitive failures by Risk Reduction Worth (RRW) and Fussell-Vesely (FV) importance. RRW highlights that risk from coincidence processor output failure can reduced by 48.83 folds and FV indicates that BP output is sensitive by 0.9796 (on a scale of 1).
