Recently, a high doping content of 0.16 in β -FeSi 2 has been achieved by the introduction of iridium (Ir), leading to the highest reported figure of merit (zT) of 0.6 in β -FeSi 2. Motivated by the successful heavy doping with Ir, this work aims to explore element heavy doping in β -FeSi 2 with cobalt (Co), a cheaper, more readily available dopant with a smaller atomic radius and closer electronegativity to iron (Fe). In this study, we successfully obtained a record-high doping content of 0.24 in Co-doped β -FeSi 2 through a prolonged annealing process. Despite the absence of a substantial enhancement in the zT of Co-doped β -FeSi 2 at high doping levels, with a maximum zT of 0.3 at 900 K in Fe 0.92 Co 0.08 Si 2 , we observed a transition in the carrier transport mechanism as a function of Co doping content, attributed to changes in the band structure. At a low Co doping content (x ≤ 0.12), Fe 1 – x Co x Si 2 demonstrates dominant carrier transport via impurity levels within the band gap, exhibiting hopping conduction. As the Co doping content increases (x > 0.16), the impurity levels overlap and form an impurity band, and the carrier transport turns into the impurity band conduction. The observed band conduction behavior of Fe 1 – x Co x Si 2 (x > 0.16) mirrors that of Ir-doped β -FeSi 2 , but Fe 1 – x Co x Si 2 shows much lower mobility, which can be attributed to the localized feature of the impurity band introduced by the Co doping. Overall, this study provides insights into the heavy Co doping and its influence on the TE properties and carrier conduction mechanisms in β -FeSi 2 , helpful for the further development of this TE system. Zircons from the Pinghe and Zhen'an granitic plutons yield concordant U–Pb ages from 489.8 to 467.7 Ma. The bulk-rock geochemical features suggest that these samples are high-K calc-alkaline, S-type granites enriched in light rare earth elements and depleted in heavy rare earth elements. With obvious negative Eu anomalies and high K2O/Na2O ratios (1.01–2.57), they are enriched in large ion lithophile elements and depleted in high field strength elements. These rocks were therefore derived from partial crustal melting associated with subduction of the converging plate. Previous studies on the Changning–Menglian suture zone have suggested that the Early Paleozoic magmatic activity in the Baoshan Block was related to the westward subduction of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. Combined with the Early Paleozoic subduction-related magmatic activity to the east, it is therefore suggested that the Changning–Menglian Ocean experienced bidirectional subduction. In the last decades, material discovery has been a very active research field driven by the need to find new materials for many different applications. This has also included materials with heavy elements, beyond the stable isotopes of lead, as most actinides exhibit unique properties that make them useful in various applications. Furthermore, new heavy elements beyond actinides, collectively referred to as super-heavy elements (SHEs), have been synthesized, filling previously empty space of Mendeleev periodic table. Their chemical bonding behaviour, of academic interest at present, would also benefit of state-of-the-art modelling approaches. In particular, in order to perform first-principles calculations with planewave basis sets, one needs corresponding pseudopotentials. In this work, we present a series of scalar- and fully-relativistic optimised norm-conserving Vanderbilt pseudopotentials (ONCVPs) for thirty-four actinides and super-heavy elements, for three different exchange-correlation functionals (PBE, PBEsol and LDA). The scalar-relativistic version of these ONCVPs is tested by comparing equations of states for crystals, obtained with abinit 9.6, with those obtained by all-electron zeroth-order regular approximation (ZORA) calculations, without spin-orbit coupling, performed with the Amsterdam Modelling Suite band code. Δ-Gauge and Δ 1 -Gauge indicators are used to validate these pseudopotentials. This work is a contribution to the PseudoDojo project, in which pseudopotentials for the whole periodic table are developed and systematically tested.
