We establish an asymptotic formula with effective error bounds for such traces. Our methods depend on an explicit bound for sums of Kloosterman sums on Γ0(4).

Awake prone positioning has been reported to improve oxygenation for patients with COVID-19 in retrospective and observational studies, but whether it improves patient-centred outcomes is unknown. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of awake prone positioning to prevent intubation or death in patients with severe COVID-19 in a large-scale randomised trial.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the direct impacts on financial performance and the added value of production in family businesses, considering the efficiency of intellectual capital as determining variables. Design/methodology/approach: A comparative analysis between family businesses (FB) and non-family businesses (NFB) is proposed to explore significant differences in the impacts on financial performance and added value of companies, through multivariate techniques. It contributes to the literature on the family business, and its performance from an analytical framework that incorporates the theory of intellectual capital and the measurement of its impact. Findings: The findings show that the value-added coefficient of intellectual capital (VAICTM) is a determining factor in the financial performance of companies and, to a greater extent, in the FB than in their NFB counterparts. It is also verified that the efficiency of intellectual capital in the FB has a direct and greater relationship with the value added of production (VAEmp), with respect to non-family businesses, being an important factor in predicting the performance of companies. Practical implications: The findings allow us to conclude the importance of efficient management of intangible factors in companies, such as intellectual capital, becoming a competitive advantage factor. Originality/value: The document explores the relationship and impact of VAICTM in family businesses that belong to an emerging economy and demonstrates the existence of differences between FB and NFB, at the level of intangible factors under a comparative analysis.

The risk of recurrence in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is likely related to the amount of tumour in the metastatic lymph node (LN). Therefore, the current TNM classification (N0/N1) make it necessary to find a method to quantify the LN metastasis (LNM). We propose that the quantitative molecular assay One-Step Nucleic-Acid Amplification (OSNA), which measures the number of cytokeratin-19 (CK-19) mRNA copies as a marker of LNM, could play this role. Our objective was to describe the characteristics of the LNs from PTC, and to compare the morphological characteristics that have been claimed as criteria for metastatic burden with OSNA.

Shank3is a shared risk gene for autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia. Sleep defects have been characterized for autism models with Shank3mutations; however, evidence has been lacking for the potential sleep defects caused by Shank3mutation associated with schizophrenia and how early in development these defects may occur. Here we characterized the sleep architecture of adolescent mice carrying a schizophrenia-linked, R1117Xmutation in Shank3. We further employed GRABDAdopamine sensor and fiber photometry to record dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens during sleep/wake states. Our results show that homozygous mutant R1117Xmice have significantly reduced sleep in the dark phase during adolescence, altered electroencephalogram power, especially during the rapid-eye-movement sleep, and dopamine hyperactivity during sleep but not during wakefulness. Further analyses suggest that these adolescent defects in sleep architecture and dopaminergic neuromodulation tightly correlate with the social novelty preference later in adulthood and predict adult social performance during same-sex social interactions. Our results provide novel insights into the sleep phenotypes in mouse models of schizophrenia and the potential use of developmental sleep as a predictive metric for adult social symptoms. Together with recent studies in other Shank3models, our work underscores the idea that Shank3-involved circuit disruptions may be one of the shared pathologies in certain types of schizophrenia and autism. Future research is needed to establish the causal relationship among adolescent sleep defects, dopaminergic dysregulation, and adult behavioral changes in Shank3mutation animals and other models.Graphical Abstract

Regional anesthesia may play a beneficial role in long-term oncological outcomes. Specifically, it has been suggested that it can prolong recurrence-free survival and overall survival after gastrointestinal cancer surgery, including gastric and esophageal cancer, by modulating the immune and inflammatory response. However, the results from human studies are conflicting. The goal of this systematic review was to summarize the evidence on the impact of regional anesthesia on immunomodulation and cancer recurrence after gastric and esophageal surgery. We conducted a literature search of 5 different databases. Two independent reviewers analyzed the quality of the selected manuscripts according to prespecified inclusion and exclusion criteria. Randomized controlled trials were assessed for potential sources of bias by using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. A total of 6 studies were included in the quality analysis and systematic review. A meta-analysis was not conducted for several reasons, including high heterogeneity among studies, low quality of the reports, and lack of standardized outcomes definitions. Although the literature suggests that regional anesthesia has some modulatory effects on the inflammatory and immunological response in the studied patient population, our systematic review indicates that there is no evidence to support or refute the use of epidural anesthesia or analgesia with the goal of reducing cancer recurrence after gastroesophageal cancer surgery.

Brain stem gliomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors regarding both clinical presentation and prognosis. They can be classified on the basis of their biological behaviour, anatomical location and radiographic appearance on MRI. The choice of treatment depends largely on whether the tumor is a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma or not. A better understanding of the biology of these tumors can be the key for progress in treatment. The purpose of this article is provide updated information to enable a detailed understanding of this group of tumors and thus help to optimize the management of this condition in the pediatric population.

El presente estudio se planteó como primordial objetivo identificar predictores psicosociales de estrés académico en estudiantes de bachillerato. La población de estudio fueron alumnos de 3 carreras técnicas de una institución de educación pública del estado de Jalisco, México. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 988 alumnos. Las variables predictoras contempladas en el estudio fueron el clima escolar, el ajuste escolar, la victimización en la escuela, la insatisfacción con la imagen corporal y la depresión, además del sexo. El instrumento para medir el estrés académico fue el Inventario de Estrés Académico (IEA) desarrollado por Hernández, Polo y Pozo (1996). En materia de resultados y mediante un análisis de regresión lineal múltiple se construyeron 2 modelos predictivos: el primero fue de situaciones generadoras de estrés y el segundo, de respuestas de estrés; en el primer caso se identificaron como variables predictoras el apoyo familiar, la ayuda del profesor, los problemas de ajuste a la escuela, la victimización relacional, la insatisfacción con la imagen corporal y la depresión y, en el segundo, la depresión, la insatisfacción con la forma corporal y el sexo. Se sugiere que en estudios posteriores se incluyan otras características que pudieran explicar en mayor medida la presencia de situaciones generadoras de estrés y se confirme la influencia de las variables mencionadas.

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar una posible correlación entre los resultados del Examen General para el Egreso de la Licenciatura en Psicología y las siguientes variables: tipo de ingreso a la universidad, sexo, puntuación en la prueba de aptitud académica, y los promedios de ingreso y egreso de los estudiantes. Los resultados muestran diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el rendimiento del Examen General para el Egreso de la Licenciatura conforme al sexo y el tipo de ingreso. También se reportan correlaciones importantes entre los resultados de dicho examen con el puntaje de la prueba de aptitud. Se propone investigar la asociación de otras variables con el Examen General para el Egreso de la Licenciatura y, en su caso, elaborar estudios predictivos que sirvan de base tanto a la comprensión del fenómeno como al desarrollo de planes y de acciones tendentes a la mejora de los resultados académicos de los estudiantes.

In this work, the p-adic valuation of Eulerian numbers is explored. A tree whose nodes contain information about the p-adic valuation of these numbers is constructed, and this tree, along with some classical results for Bernoulli numbers, is used to compute the exact pdivisibility for the Eulerian numbers when the first variable lies in a congruence class and psatisfies some regularity properties.

•Craniosynostosis is characterized by the premature fusion of one or more cranial sutures; it has an estimated overall incidence of 1/2000 to 2500 live births.•The birth prevalence of all types of CS, both isolated and syndromic is 343/million.•The incidence of non-syndromic CS is 0.6/1000 live births.•The diagnosis and treatment of CS during the last two decades improved by new and different techniques, including molecular genetics of most of the classic CS syndromes.•Almost 20% of all CS are due to genetic causes. This work is focused in the combination of a photo-Fenton process and biological treatments in different devices for the degradation of a 200 mg.L-1Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) solution. Firstly, the combination of a photo-Fenton process, carried out with different initial H2O2concentrations, with an aerobic biological treatment performed in a 1 L suspended biomass batch reactors was carried out. A relationship between the degree of pre-treatment and the overall TOC removals achieved was found. Secondly, a photo-Fenton pre-treatment carried out with an initial H2O2concentration of 300 mg.L-1and 10 mg.L-1of Fe2+, was selected to feed a Sequencing Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR). It was possible to work with stable cycles of 24 hours, degrading 75% of the TOC contained in the initial SMX solution. Bacterial community located in the biofilm was successfully characterized by applying molecular biology techniques and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).

Dynamic viscoelastic functions of bitumen/polymer waterproofing membranes are investigated. Analyses of the effect of polymer concentration on the height of the loss tangent peak observed around 20 °C reveals the existence of a continuous polymer phase. The variation of the elastic modulus and the loss modulus with frequency leads to define a Relaxation Spectrum Index which is used to determine the polymer concentration for the phase inversion. This is related to the Spanish UNE 104281 technical norm on bitumen/polymer blends for roofing. The results of the elastic modulus as a function of temperature and frequency were employed to evaluate the bonding capacity of the membranes to the roof surface. New perspectives on the characterization of bitumen/polymer membranes, similar to the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) used in road pavement, are open.

Iatrogenic diaphragmatic hernias are a rarely reported complication of abdominal surgery. We present a case of an iatrogenic diaphragmatic hernia diagnosed 2 years after an adrenalectomy. Corrective laparoscopic surgery was performed, and the postoperative course was uneventful. The patient remained asymptomatic 6 months after the repair. To our knowledge, this is the first such case to be reported.

Introduction. Laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) has been performed in many approaches such as open, laparoscopic and recently Single Port Access (SPAA). In order to elucidate its potential advantages, we compared the two laparoscopic approaches. Methods. 87 patients were included in a multicentric study for suspected appendicitis in order to perform (SPAA) appendectomy or laparoscopic appendectomy (LA). All outcomes, including blood loss, operative time, complications, and length of stay and pain were recorded prospectively. Results. There were 46 patients in the SPAA group and 41 in the LAG with a mean operative time of 40,4 minutes in the SPAA group and 35,0 minutes in the LA group. Only one patient was converted to an open approach. We described only 2 complications. Pain was graded 2,8 in the SPAA group and 2,9 in the LA group, according to the AVS after 24 hours. Patients in the SPAA Group were more satisfied (7,5 versus 6,9) (𝑃<0.05). Same results were found for the cosmetic result (8,6 versus 7,4) (𝑃<0.05). Conclusion. Using the single port approach feasible and safe. The true benefit of the technique should be assessed by new randomised controlled trials.

In this work, we present a simple and flexible model for Plasmodium vivax dynamics which can be easily combined with routinely collected data on local and imported case counts to quantify transmission intensity and simulate control strategies. This model extends the model from White et al. (2016) by including case management interventions targeting liver-stage or blood-stage parasites, as well as imported infections. The endemic steady state of the model is used to derive a relationship between the observed incidence and the transmission rate in order to calculate reproduction numbers and simulate intervention scenarios. To illustrate its potential applications, the model is used to calculate local reproduction numbers in Panama and identify areas of sustained malaria transmission that should be targeted by control interventions. • A model for P. vivax including case management and imported infections is analysed. • The model is calibrated by linking its steady state to observed incidence data. • This method can be used to calculate reproduction numbers or simulate interventions. • Parameter sensitivity and coherence with an existing model are explored. • Practical applications of the model are illustrated in the Panama context.
