Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have conducted a study comparing the use of 3D-printed concrete molds to conventional wood molds for precast concrete production. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) retrofitted concrete is a composite material system that is commonly used in construction for its improved strength properties or for rehabilitation of concrete structures. This material system is composed of a concrete substrate on which FRP is adhered with an epoxy matrix. When the system is subject to adverse mechanical or environmental effects, delamination of the FRP or damage at the FRPconcrete interface may occur, yet remain externally undetected because the damage is obscured by the FRP. In this paper, a robust standoff technique for finding discontinuities in FRP-retrofitted concrete at the FRP-concrete interface using a combined acoustic-laser vibrometry technique is presented. Experiments were conducted on a test specimen with a cubic discontinuity at the FRPconcrete interface. The frequency signature of the discontinuity, which provides a technique for determining the approximate size of the discontinuity, was found to be in agreement with theory. An image was constructed with a series of measurements that show the boundary and spatial vibrational behavior of the discontinuity. From that series of measurements a probability of detection and receiver operating characteristic curve was determined for the methodology. Abstract: In this paper, a Strain Energy Function (SEF) is proposed to characterize the hyperelastic behavior of transversely isotropic incompressible fiber-reinforced rubbers. The kinematics of the deformation is based on a strain measure consistent with the physics of the deformation. The SEF consists of an isotropic part and an anisotropic one where a simple form of SEF is used for both parts. In order to investigate the capabilities of the proposed model, two fiber-reinforced rubbers under homogeneous deformations are examined. The predictions of the model show a good agreement with the experimental data for both tensile and shear deformations. Also, torsion of a fiber-reinforced rubbery circular cylinder is investigated. It is shown that, in the absence of an additional axial force, the cylinder may elongate (Poynting effect) or contract (reverse-Poynting effect) based on the fibers angle and the amount of deformation. Nondestructive testing of cylindrical concrete columns is of great importance for mapping the subsurface geometry of steel reinforcing bars and detecting subsurface discontinuities that may be detrimental to structural integrity. In addition, when old concrete columns in buildings or bridges are rehabilitated by wrapping the columns with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite fabrics to enhance their strength and ductility, it is important to detect the presence of subsurface debonds between the FRP fabric and the underlying concrete column during the initial rehabilitation stage as well as during service. Timely detection of debonds can lead to remedial action such as injecting resin into the debonds, so that the confinement action provided by the FRP fabric wrap is not adversely affected. While past studies using ground penetrating radar (GPR) have demon-strated the ability to detect subsurface debonds and reinforcing bars, the data is typically presented as 2D cross-sectional scans, and the 3D imaging technique is limited to flat objects such as bridge decks. This paper discusses the use of 3D GPR imaging for cylindrical concrete columns with or without FRP wraps and compares the effective-ness of 2D and 3D GPR images for displaying subsurface features such as debonds and metallic rebars in cylindrical columns. As shown from the results in this paper, the 3D cylindrical imaging technique greatly enhances the visualization of GPR data for concrete cylindrical columns. Composite fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials are increasingly being used in both civil and ship structures. Both uses of FRP are usually in conjunction with some other material, oftentimes steel. When FRP and steel are joined adhesively, the most common failure mode is debonding or delamination at the interface of the adhesive with the steel and composite materials. These discontinuities are often visually obscured by the FRP and require the aid of some form of nondestructive testing (NDT). Acoustic laser vibrometry is a novel NDT technique in which an airborne acoustic wave is utilized to excite the location of the damage underneath the FRP sheets/plates, causing a vibration like a drum head, which can be measured with a laser vibrometer. To study the acoustic laser technique, a discontinuous specimen was created from a plate of stainless steel adhesively bonded to a plate of glass FRP on their faces with a purposely-placed elliptical debonding discontinuity. A number of parameters of the acoustic laser vibrometry system were studied. Additionally, grid data were collected from the discontinuity specimen and a discontinuity mapping was created.
