La alta incidencia de la enfermedad nodular tiroidea ha hecho que crezca la preocupación sobre el manejo terapéutico de los nódulos tiroideos benignos. El desarrollo de técnicas mínimamente invasivas (TMI) supone una alternativa a la cirugía con una baja tasa de complicaciones. Nuestro objetivo es evaluar la eficacia y el impacto sobre la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud (CVRS) del tratamiento mediante inyección percutánea de etanol (IPE) de los nódulos tiroideos sintomáticos, quísticos y mixtos de predominio quístico (componente quístico >50%) tratados en la unidad de alta resolución (UARNT) del Hospital Verge de la Cinta.

The high incidence of thyroid nodular disease has raised concerns on the therapeutic management of benign thyroid nodules. The development of minimally invasive techniques is an alternative to surgery and has a low rate of complications. Our objective was to evaluate the safety and efficacy profile of percutaneous ethanol injections (PEI) with ethanol aspiration of symptomatic cystic and predominantly cystic thyroid nodules (cystic component > 50%) treated in the thyroid nodule high-resolution unit (TNHRU) of Hospital de Tortosa Verge de la Cinta Hospital, Tarragona, Spain.

The high incidence of nodular thyroid pathology has led to growing concern about the economic impact that this pathology represents on the healthcare system. There are conclusive data about the cost-effectiveness of high-resolution units for nodular thyroid pathology; however, their implementation is not homogeneous in the Endocrinology and Nutrition services of our country. Existen datos concluyentes acerca del coste-efectividad de las unidades de alta resolución de patología nodular tiroidea; sin embargo, su implantación no es homogénea en los servicios de Endocrinología y Nutrición de nuestro país. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el impacto económico de la puesta en marcha de la unidad de alta resolución de nódulo tiroideo (UARNT) en nuestro centro.

In this article, the axial vibrations of a rod with a clamped end and the transversal vibrations of a cantilever beam, both with a time-dependent and non-harmonic force applied on their free ends, are analysed. These are problems in which the traction and the shear, for the rod and the beam, respectively, prescribed in the boundaries of the bodies vary with time. The problems can be solved by the method proposed by Mindlin and Goodman. However, it is usual to solve this problem by the classic variable-separation method (which does not properly fulfil the time-dependent boundary conditions). The displacements and the forces along the systems are derived from both cited methods, and the results are compared. These results highlight the importance of using the proper solution method for the vibration problems with time-dependent boundary conditions.

This article deals with a two-person zero-sum game in which player I chooses in integer interval [1, N] two integer intervals consisting of p and q points where p + q < N, and player II chooses an integer point in [1, N]. The payoff to player I equals 1 if the point chosen by player II is at least in one of the intervals chosen by player II and 0 otherwise.
