To synthesize participant retention data and related reporting in studies evaluating post-hospital outcomes of survivors of critical illness after an intensive care unit (ICU) stay.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) survivors often experience post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), is defined as new or worsened impairments in physical, cognitive and/or mental health status persisting beyond hospital discharge. These impairments negatively impact survivors’ quality of life and their return to work or usual activities. Moreover, family members are also impacted as recognized by the term, PICS-Family (PICS-F). PICS poses an increased burden on the health care system and has a negative societal impact. There are ongoing efforts to understand risk factors for PICS-related impairments; design and evaluate interventions for specific impairments (including the use of an ARDS survivorship core outcome set); and refine and evaluate ICU recovery clinics to support and treat survivors and their families.

More than 4 million adults survive a stay in the intensive care unit each year, with many experiencing new or worsening physical disability, mental health problems, and/or cognitive impairments, known as post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). Given the prevalence and magnitude of physical impairments after critical illness, many survivors, including those recovering from COVID-19, could benefit from physical therapist services after hospital discharge. However, due to the relatively recent recognition and characterization of PICS, there may be limited awareness and understanding of PICS among physical therapists practicing in home health care and community-based settings. This lack of awareness may lead to inappropriate and/or inadequate rehabilitation service provision. While this perspective article provides information relevant to all physical therapists, it is aimed toward those providing rehabilitation services outside of the acute and postacute inpatient settings. This article reports the prevalence and clinical presentation of PICS and provides recommendations for physical examination and outcomes measures, plan of care, and intervention strategies. The importance of providing patient and family education, coordinating community resources including referring to other health care team members, and community-based rehabilitation service options is emphasized. This paper aims to explore the viable and stable geometry of traversable wormholes in the framework of f(R,Lm)theory. For this purpose, we build a shape function using the Karmarkar condition that determines the geometry of the wormhole. The resulting shape function meets all the fundamental requirements and successfully establishes a connection between two asymptotically flat regions of the spacetime. We then formulate the field equations corresponding to two different models of this theory, representing static spherically symmetric anisotropic fluid distribution. We also check feasibility of the obtained wormhole solutions by graphically analyzing the behavior of null energy conditions. Finally, we examine the stability of these solutions through the speed of sound and adiabatic index criteria. We conclude that both our resulting models are well-agreed with the requirements needed for the existence of wormholes for chosen parametric values.

The aim of this study was to develop solid dispersions (SDs) of clarithromycin (CLA) using hydrophilic polymers hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and xanthan gum (XNG) as drug carriers. An in vitro dissolution study was performed in dissolution media of pH 6.8, and the results were compared with those of standard drugs. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies were carried out on an animal model (rabbits). The thermal behavior of each SD formulation was studied using differential scanning calorimetry analysis. It was concluded from the results that the crystalline nature of CLA had been transformed into an amorphous form in SDs. Pharmacokinetic parameters were observed to improve in HPMC- as well as XNG-based SDs compared with those of the standard drug. Additionally, powder X-ray diffraction analysis also confirmed the phase transition (crystalline to amorphous) of the drug present in SDs. Higher values of Cmaxwere found in the case of HPMC-based SDs, whereas tmaxvalues were prolonged in SDs based on XNG. Additionally, the enhanced half-life values indicated that SDs would have the potential to achieve a once-daily dose and improved patient compliance of drugs. Hence, the formulated SDs of a poorly soluble drug, based on HPMC and XNG as carriers, exhibited a more hydrophilic nature with enhanced aqueous solubility and therefore improved bioavailability compared with that of a standard drug.

•Integration of PGPR with press mud mitigated heavy metals-induced adverse impacts on aloe vera.•PGPR changed the oxidation state of metals, which subsequently immobilized due to the action of press mud.•PGPR and press mud reduced heavy metals uptake in aloe vera plants, achieving successful phyto-stabilization.

The study investigates the relationship between transformational leadership (TL) and organisational learning capability (OLC) and explores the mediating role of human resource (HR) effectiveness. A quantitative survey method was used to gather data from the software industry in Pakistan through a self-administered questionnaire (N= 504). Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to check the reliability and validity of the research instrument. In addition, structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Research findings have demonstrated that TL positively affects OLC in software companies. Moreover, perceived HR effectiveness mediates the relationship between TL and OLC. Current research has several theoretical and practical implications as it extends the ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theory by considering perceived HR effectiveness as an important facilitator of a firm’s learning capability. This study provides valuable insights for organisational leaders to ensure HR effectiveness in terms of HR practices including recruitment, training and compensation for the development of learning capabilities. It also recommends managers to adopt TL for utilising HR effectiveness in order to improve learning at an organisational level.
