Studies showed that consensual sex can be regretted, and may lead to a false allegation of rape. However, none of the previous researches concerning regret as a false allegation of rape described the psychological process as to why the alleged victim might experience regret.

The French Law of August 3, 2018 on sexual and gender-based violence was made urgent by increasing criticism of legal rulings relating to sexual offenses. The main advances comprise: tightening up action against rape, broadening the concept of penetration and redefining that of coercion, lengthening the statute of limitations for sexual offenses against minors, improving the definition of harassment, creating an offense of voyeurism and an offense of sexual insult, and defining the existing offense of non-disclosure of offenses against minors. By not enshrining a presumption of non-consent in minors, the Law did not meet all expectations, and also poses unresolved problems of legal interpretation.

The aim was to examine the descriptive data on intracranial hemorrhage related to fatal non-accidental head injury (NAHI) in a pediatric population that had undergone forensic pathological examination. This retrospective and multicentric study included all infants who died because of intracranial hemorrhage attributed to NAHI. Sixty-seven infants were included with a median age of 3.8months. Forty-two percent of infants had been subjected to an isolated shaking incident, and 58% had an identified impact with or without shaking. Twenty-two percent of children had an associated fracture. Thirty percent of infants had a past history of NAHI. There was no significant statistical difference between shaking and impact concerning the gravity of the injuries. We observed considerable variability in the samples available for the forensic pathological expert examination, even though the autopsy was performed in three major French centers.

Entre septembre 2017 et juillet 2018, l’association AIDES et le Comité de coordination régional de la lutte contre les infections sexuellement transmissibles et le VIH ont alerté, via les médias, sur la survenue dans la métropole lyonnaise de 10 à 20 décès liés à une surdose de substance psychoactive (SPA) dans un contexte de chemsex. Une validation de ce signal a été confiée au centre d’addictovigilance de Lyon par l’Agence régionale de santé, avec mobilisation du réseau associatif et de prévention en lien avec la communauté HSH (hommes qui ont des rapports sexuels avec d’autres hommes) et des acteurs sanitaires et médicolégaux. Nous présentons ici l’outil d’évaluation développé afin de déterminer, de façon objective et reproductible, l’imputabilité des décès identifiés et les résultats obtenus.

L’humeur vitrée (HV) est une substance gélatineuse située dans la chambre postérieure de l’œil qui joue notamment un rôle mécanique au niveau du globe oculaire. Elle a fait l’objet de nombreuses études dans différentes applications médicolégales, principalement pour la détermination du délai postmortem et en biochimie postmortem. La plupart des xénobiotiques présents dans le sang étant détectés dans l’HV, après avoir traversé la barrière hématorétinienne, l’HV est une matrice utile en toxicologie médicolégale. L’analyse de l’HV est intéressante par rapport à d’autres matrices biologiques : faible redistribution postmortem, facile à collecter, peu d’interférences analytiques, stabilité des molécules en postmortem. Cette revue aborde aussi bien la physiologie de l’HV et la distribution des xénobiotiques dans cette matrice que des points plus pratiques : prélèvement, conservation et analyse. L’interprétation qualitative et quantitative des résultats est discutée. Un tableau regroupant les concentrations sanguines et vitréennes issues de plus de 300 cas médicolégaux et concernant plus de 120 molécules est présenté. To provide evidence of the role of insulin in the occurrence of death is always challenging: glycemic state can be estimated only in vitreous matrix, and postmortem blood sample detection of insulin or its analogs is known to be problematic. This case report is of a death involving insulin analog injection characterized at the injection site on liquid chromatography coupled to an exactive high-resolution/high accuracy mass spectrometry (LC/HRMS).

Interpreting the lesions of victims of sexual violence is one of the most difficult and most controversial areas of forensic medicine. The case we report involves the care of a victim of sado-masochism. It identifies the difficulties of both the forensic and legal management of sexual violence in an unusual context.

5-APB and 5-APBD belong to the benzofuran group of new psychoactive substances (NPS). Used for their entactogen and stimulant properties, benzofurans are related to phenethylamines and displayed sympathetic activity, with possible neurologic and cardiovascular complications [1]. We describe a fatal poisoning with 5-APB and 5-APDB as the only drugs involved.

Les champignons hallucinogènes bénéficient d’une « bonne réputation » parmi les stupéfiants interdits en France liée à leur faible toxicité directe et l’absence de dépendance [1]. Les champignons psychoactifs les plus consommés, les psilocybes, ont pour principe actif principal la psilocybine, prodrogue de la psilocine. Actuellement, des applications thérapeutiques de la psilocybine sont étudiées dans le traitement de certaines dépressions et addictions [2]. Dans le cadre d’un usage récréatif, l’effet recherché est le plus souvent une altération des perceptions et des pensées et l’effet indésirable reporté est l’apparition d’un délire angoissant connu sous le terme « bad trip ». Les cas de comportement dangereux et décès au décours d’hallucinations sont fréquemment relayés dans les journaux ou sur internet mais rarement documentés scientifiquement. Cette étude de cas, enrichie d’une revue de la littérature, décrit les dangers de la consommation de psilocybes.

Atractyloside (ATR) and carboxyatractyloside (CATR) are diterpene glycosides that are responsible for the toxicity of several Asteraceaeplants around the world. Mediterranean gum thistle (Atractylis gummiferaL.) and Zulu impila (Callilepis laureolaDC.), in particular, are notoriously poisonous and the cause of many accidental deaths, some suicides and even some murders. When a case history is not available, it is not easy to determine ATR or CATR poisoning anatomically or histologically. There is no current method for measuring the two toxins in biological samples that meet the criteria of specificity required in forensic medicine. We have endeavoured to fill this analytical gap.

La méphédrone ou 4-MethylMethCathinone (4-MMC) est une cathinone dont l’usage est régulièrement observé en France ces dernières années. Il existe deux isomères de cette molécule : la 2- et la 3-MMC. Si la 3-MMC semble plus consommée que la méphédrone dans certains pays européens [1], en France, seules quelques saisies de 3-MMC ont été répertoriées [2], et les cas de consommation décrits concernent à notre connaissance exclusivement la méphédrone. Nous rapportons deux cas de décès par intoxication impliquant la 3-MMC et attirons l’attention sur les erreurs d’identification possible de ces isomères de position en fonction des techniques utilisées.

Hypoglycin A (HGA) is the toxic principle in ackee (Blighia sapidaKoenig), a member of the Sapindaceae family, originating from West Africa and imported into the tropical regions of the Caribbean and Central America. Ackee is a nutritious and readily available fruit that is a staple of the Jamaican working-class and rural population. The aril of the unripe fruit has high concentrations of HGA, the cause of Jamaican vomiting sickness, which is very often fatal. HGA is also present in the samara of the sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanusL.) which causes equine atypical myopathy, often fatal for horses. The aim of this study was to develop a method for quantifying HGA in blood that would be sensitive enough to provide toxicological evidence of ackee or maple poisoning.

4-methylethcathinone (4-MEC) is a designer cathinone classified as an illegal narcotic since July 2012 in France. This report presents the first fatality related to consumption of 4-MEC in France.
