Hard anodizing of different aluminum alloys 2014-T3, 6061-T6, and 7075-T6 is conducted in sulfuric acid electrolyte at a temperature of − 5 °C and current densities of 1.6 to 2.8 A/dm2for 30 to 60 min. The effect of substrate microstructure on the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and morphology of the hard anodic layers is investigated. Electrochemical technique, thickness, hardness, and abrasion testing devices are used to test the corrosion and mechanical properties of hard anodic layers. The morphology and nanostructure of the anodic film are observed by SEM. The results show that the 7075-T6 (Al–Zn–Mg–Cu) aluminum alloy has the highest hard coat thickness, hardness, and abrasion resistance. The Fe, Si intermetallic phases present in 6061 Al alloy hinder the oxide growth. The oxide layer formed on 2014 Al alloy has the lowest thickness, hardness, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance due to the high content of copper.

Background: Cochlear implantation (CI) is currently a well-established method for restoring hearing to people with profound hearing loss (Blamey and Artieres, Audiol Neurotol 18:36-47, 2013; Holden and Finley, Ear Hear 34:342-360, 2013). Methods: Forty adults and children CI users of least 5 years of CI experience were subjected to full history taking and CI outcome measures: CI questionnaires, aided sound field pure tone audiometry, and speech perception tests. Results: Through QoL questionnaires, the highest scores were obtained in the physical functioning domain than in the psychological and social domains in adults, while for children, the highest scores were obtained in the general domain than in the communication and self-reliance domains. No statistically significant correlation was found between QOL questionnaires and speech tests. Conclusion: Audiological evaluation including speech perception tests is not enough to reflect the true performance of CI subjects in everyday listening situations. The Arabic versions of QoL questionnaires were complementary to other outcome CI measures. Long-term evaluation for CI users is crucial.

In view of the evolving domain of cyber threats, traditional signature based detection tools encounter difficulties in detecting malware. The conventional approach utilizing pattern matching across database is easily undermine by newer threats. Machine learning is able to intelligently detect and classify malware based on the attack pattern which serves as an alternative approach to the enhanced anti-malware solution. This research therefore presents a comprehensive study in the elucidation on the performance of various machine learning models for real-time malware detection and classification. The work is extended to cover three main scope of studies: malware detection, malware classification, and network packet screening. The malware detection component uses static analysis approaches to distinguish between malicious and legitimate files based on the information of the portable executable headers. After detection, the malware classification component can be used to categorize the identified malware into specific malware families, providing deeper insights into the malware characteristics. Additionally, the network packet classification component analyzes network traffic, identifying packets as benign or malicious. In addition, a dedicated application is constructed for automated feature extraction and result visualization in real-time. Experimental outcome demonstrates promising results of the machine learning enabled anti-malware solution for real-time employment, underscoring its prevalence for effective prevention of related cyber threats.

The properties of hard anodizing layers formed on 2014 Al alloy in sulphuric acid electrolyte containing sodium lignin sulphonate were investigated. The corrosion behavior of 2014 Al alloy has been studied using potentiodynamic polarization technique. Anodic layers morphology and composition were examined by scanning electron microscope, energy dispersion X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the corrosion resistance has been enhanced after hard anodizing of 2014 Al alloy. Addition of lignin sulphonate to the sulphuric acid electrolyte significantly improved the corrosion resistance of the anodized 2014 aluminum alloy by adsorption on copper-intermetallic phases. Adsorption of sodium lignin sulphonate on oxide surface has been confirmed by SEM, EDX, and FTIR. Phenolic and carboxylic groups in sodium lignin sulphonate are functional groups, which are responsible of complex formation on oxide surface. The morphology of the hard anodizing layer is non-homogenous due to the high copper content of 2014 Al alloy. Addition of sodium lignin sulphonate resulted in the formation of anodic layers with more homogeneity and fewer cracks.

Up till now there is lack of consensus to the optimal method for cardioplegia delivery in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients. Various strategies have been developed to minimize ischemic-reperfusion injury.

In recent years, autonomous robots have been increasingly deployed in unstructured and unknown environments. In order to survive in theses environments, robots are equipped with sensors. One of the main sensors is tactile sensor which provides the robots with tactile information like texture, stiffness, temperature, vibration and normal and shear forces. In this paper, we propose a flexible capacitive tactile sensor which is designed for measuring both normal and shear forces. The tactile sensing unit consists of five layers, a bottom layer of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) with a pillar, two copper electrodes embedded into a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film, a spacer, a Polyimide (PI) film and finally a top PI bump. The bump and the pillar structure play a significant role in producing a torque for shear force measurement. Finite element modeling (FEM) is conducted to analyze the deformation of the sensing unit and simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics. The change of capacitance verse normal and shear forces are obtained, a comparison between the proposed sensor and other pervious sensor is conducted. The sensitivity of a cell is 0.22%/N within the full scale range of 10 N for normal force and 4%/N within the full scale range of 10 N for shear force.

Dielectronic recombination (DR) cross sections (σDR) and rate coefficients (αDR) for Mo33+ are calculated using the angular momentum average scheme (AMA). Moreover, the resonant transfer excitation followed by X-ray emission (RTEX) cross sections (σ RTEX) for the collision of Mo33+with H2and He targets are calculated and studied. The calculations of the cross sections are performed for both K- and L-shell excitations. A smooth change with the temperatures for αDRis found for all kinds of excitations. The rates for K-shell excitation are very small in comparison with the rates for Lshell excitation. The RTEX cross sections for Mo33+ions are obtained from their corresponding DR cross sections by the method of folding in the impulse approximation (IMA). σ RTEX for the K-shell excitation shows two overlapped peaks which may be attributed to the two groups in this excitation process. The present calculations are considered as a database for future comparison with theoretical and experimental data using other coupling schemes. Multiple Auger channels are complicating the dependence of the cross sections on principal quantum numbers.

The variational static approximation is applied to the elastic scattering of low-energy positrons by argon atoms. A trial function including up to 10 terms is taken to allow for correlation, depending on the positron-nucleus separation only. This method excludes singularities and succeeds in improving the calculated phase shifts. Three versions have been applied depending on the way of inclusion of polarization effects. Results of the phase shifts and cross sections agree with other theoretical calculations as well as experimental values. Our version (ii) yields the best agreement with experiment.

Partial and total cross-sections of electrons scattering by helium and neon atoms are calculated at eleven values of incident energy ranging from 0.1 a.u. to 1.1 a.u. The calculations are carried out via model potential (describing the electron target interaction). The iterative Green’s function partial-wave expansion technique was used. The comparison between our results and those obtained by other authors show significant agreement and supports our simple model scattering process.
