Kropka, a community space in Tbilisi, Georgia, has become a refuge for Belarusian exiles seeking a freer environment. The space offers language classes, movie screenings, board games, and other events to help Belarusians connect and support each other. Kropka's managers prioritize inclusivity and non-discrimination, and while they receive some funding from international foundations, they rely on grants to cover the majority of their costs. The German-Jewish legal historian Guido Kisch (1889–1985) was forced to leave Germany in 1935 and went into exile in the USA. His research on medieval German law, humanism and Jewish communities was widely known within the scientific community. Less is known about his Jewishness and the influence of traditional Jewish views on his scholarly work. It would seem that this is due to his belief that legal analyses and research should be kept separate from personal influences and interests – an opinion which appears to be based on Max Weber's theory of positivism. This article examines the significance of contact zones and heterotopias in the artwork of the German-born photographer Grete Stern, who was forced to flee Germany during National Socialism and went into exile to Argentina. After leaving Germany Grete Stern not only played an essential role in the modernization of photography in Argentina but also became a central figure in the migrant community in Buenos Aires. I will argue that Stern's portraits and photomontages themselves can be understood as contact zones that practiced a form of visual multilingualism and operated as cultural translations but also hold a heterotopic potential inside them. The relationship between psychoanalysis and Jewishness has been debated for over one hundred years and the derogatory term "Jewish science" has been used to describe psychoanalysis. Because of the Nazi regime both Jewish and non-Jewish psychoanalysts left their homelands. In this study, aging Jewish individuals born in Central Europe and forced into exile were interviewed concerning their perceptions of psychoanalysis and Jewishness, of Jewish identity and exile. Anti-Semitism had influenced their perceptions of their work in the psychoanalytic field. The findings are discussed in relation to the current position of psychoanalysis as well as to questions of trauma and exile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay reflects on the cross-border performance of the ger in the basic rabbinic text, the Talmud. It looks at ways in which the ger opens up inside the Talmudic texture a space of reflection on the borders of the rabbinic socio-political project, i.e. 'Israel'. The immigrant ger, initially an outsider, is unveiled as a paradigm of the rabbinic subject. The guiding question concerns the nature of the space in which the cross-border event of the ger takes place, namely the topo-logy of rabbinic Israel. Enrico Tullio Liebman, the great Italian scholar of procedural law, spent his childhood years in Barcelona. Although his parents were Jewish, Liebman and his two younger siblings were baptized at Barcelona's cathedral upon request of their father. Nevertheless, around the late 1930s, Liebman fell victim to the racist legislation enacted by the Italian fascist regime, and fl ed into exile in Uruguay with the help of Eduardo Couture, the renowned Uruguayan scholar of procedural law.
