We revisit the literature that explores the relationship between domestic and foreign markets asset pricing puzzles, by evaluating the relative performance of different consumption-based models. We estimate and test the overidentifying restrictions of Euler equations associated with the consumption capital asset pricing model, in its canonical and main reference level versions. Our main findings are: 1) similar, however unreasonable, values for the parameters are obtained for most of the models in both equity and foreign exchange markets; 2) rejections or otherwise of overidentifying restrictions occurs for the two markets, suggesting that success and failure stories for each model takes place in the other market. We also compare the consumption-based pricing kernel with a preference-free pricing kernel built in da Costa et al. (2015) and perform in-sample predictions exercises. Our work provides empirical grounds to believe that progresses on preference-based solutions to puzzles in domestic financial markets will shed light on puzzles in foreign exchange market as, for example, recent work by Verdelhan (2010).

With the presentation of a fire accident caused by wire joint, this paper reveals the theory that large contact resistance at wire joint can induce high temperature, and eventually can cause fire. Through macro-examination and metallographic analysis about the melted marks of wire joint, it clarifies the formation mechanism of the melted marks, and the corresponding preventive measures which can prevent wire fires, provide a practical and reliable scientific basis to guarantee the safe operation of house power system.

On the basis of fire hazard simulation study of aluminum cable joint, it reveals that large contact resistance at cable joint can induce high temperature, and easily ignite combustibles then catch fire. Electrical wiring is the main fireorigin on electrical fire, and aluminum wire laying lines used more fire hazard. The melting mark formed in process of fire is the important material evidence to analysis the cause, but the aluminum wire melting mark organization feature is also different in different solidification conditions, therefore, to identify the mark characteristics formaed in different environment conditions has become a important task of fire evidence identification. Prepared fire sample melting by the means of simulation test, and observed to analysis the experimental sample, then summarizes the influence of solidification environment on microstructure characteristics of aluminum wire trace sample. Through the analysis found that, because of the influence of subcooled temperature, make the most of the organization of melt mark cooled in the air have oversize equiaxial crystal organization, almost no holes; and the dip in water cooling of melting mark is formed in larger subcooling, so the organization have more than a small columnar crystal and cellular crystal, and have more small holes exist. These features of aluminum conductor mark can provide strong technical support for fire investigation.

Detailed cyclic voltammetric and UV−visible−near-infrared electronic absorption spectral data have been obtained for a series of pentamethylcyclopentadienyl complexes of uranium(IV) and thorium(IV) of the general formula (C5Me5)2An(L1)(L2), where L1, L2 = Cl, SO3CF3, CH3, CH2Ph, imido (&dbd;N-2,4,6-^tBu3C6H2), hydrazonato (η²(N,N‘)-RNN&dbd;CPh2; R = CH3, CH2Ph, Ph), ketimido (−N&dbd;C(Ph)(R); R = CH3, CH2Ph, Ph) ligands, and for the hexavalent uranium bis(imido) complex (C5Me5)2U(&dbd;NPh)2. The electrochemical and spectroscopic behavior of the tetravalent uranium complexes falls cleanly into distinct categories based on the nature of L1 and L2. If both ligands are simple σ-donors (Cl, SO3CF3, CH3, CH2Ph), a reversible U(IV)/U(III) voltammetric wave is the only metal-based process observed, and it occurs between ~−1.8 and −2.6 V vs [(C5H5)2Fe]^+/0. If either L1 or L2 is a nitrogen-donor ligand (imido, hydrazonato, ketimido), then both a U(IV)/U(III) reduction wave and a U(V)/U(IV) oxidation wave are observed. The reduction step occurs in the same potential region as for the σ-donor complexes, and the oxidation wave occurs in the range from ~+0.2 to −0.7 V vs [(C5H5)2Fe]^+/0. This oxidation wave is reversible, indicating that the unusual pentavalent uranium oxidation state is kinetically stable on a voltammetric time scale, and the potential of the oxidation step indicates that the pentavalent state is thermodynamically stabilized from interaction with the nitrogen-donor ligand(s). The separation between reduction and oxidation processes in these nitrogen-donor complexes remains nearly constant over the series of eight complexes, with an average value of 2.09 V. Additional ligand-based redox processes are also observed and assigned on the basis of the existence of corresponding voltammetric waves in the Th(IV) complexes and other cyclopentadiene complexes. The electronic absorption spectra for all U(IV) complexes are comprised of two distinct regions:  a lower energy region (E < 15 000 cm^-1) containing the narrow f−f transitions arising from within the 5f orbital manifold and a higher energy region (E > 15 000 cm^-1) containing broad, unstructured, or poorly structured bands derived from both metal-localized 5f−6d transitions and molecular-based transitions including ligand-localized and metal-to-ligand charge-transfer transitions. A definite trend in intensities of these transitions is observed, depending on the nature of L1 and L2. If L1 and L2 are both simple σ-donor ligands, the f−f transition intensities are relatively weak (molar absorptivity ε ≈ 10−80 M^-1 cm^-1), consistent with observations for most classical coordination complexes of 5f² electronic configuration, and the broad, higher energy bands have ε values in the 3000−5000 M^-1 cm^-1 range. If L1 and/or L2 is a hydrazonato ligand, the f−f transition intensities increase to ~30−120 M^-1 cm^-1 and the broad, higher energy bands develop significantly greater intensities (ε ≈ 15 000−20 000 M^-1 cm^-1). Finally, for the imido and ketimido complexes of U(IV), the f−f transition intensities increase to ~50−400 M^-1 cm^-1, and the broad, higher energy bands continue to carry substantial intensity (ε ≈ 10 000−15 000 M^-1 cm^-1) while also extending to lower energy. This interesting trend in f−f transition intensity is interpreted in the context of an intensity-stealing mechanism from the charge-transfer excited states that reflects an enhanced degree of covalent interaction between the actinide metal center and L1/L2 for the nitrogen-donor ligand systems.

Migratory insertion of benzonitrile into both An−C bonds of the bis(alkyl) and bis(aryl) complexes (C5Me5)2AnR2 yields the actinide ketimido complexes (C5Me5)2An[−N&dbd;C(Ph)(R)]2 (where An = Th, R = Ph, CH2Ph, CH3; An = U, R = CH2Ph, CH3) and provides a versatile method for the construction of electronically and sterically diverse ketimide ligands. The Th(IV) compounds represent the first examples of thorium ketimide complexes. The uranium complexes are surprisingly unreactive, and both the uranium and thorium bis(ketimido) complexes display unusual electronic structure properties. The combined chemical and physical properties of these complexes suggest a higher An−N bond order due to significant ligand-to-metal π-bonding in the actinide ketimido interactions and indicate that the f-electrons in mid-valent organouranium complexes might be far more involved in chemical bonding and reactivity than previously thought. We also report herein the structures of the known thorium and uranium complexes (C5Me5)2Th(CH2Ph)2, (C5Me5)2ThMe2, (C5Me5)2U(CH2Ph)2, and (C5Me5)2UMe2.

Ion-exchange membranes were prepared with semi-interpenetrating networks (s-IPNs) by mixing a film-forming polymer, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), for the crosslinked matrix and a polyelectrolyte for the specific ion-exchange property. Poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSSNa), poly(styrenesulfonic acid) (PSSH), and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) were used as anionic polyelectrolytes. Polyethyleneimine (PEI), poly(1,1-dimethyl-3,5-dimethylenepiperidinium chloride) (PDDPCl), and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDMACl) were used as cationic polyelectrolytes. Membranes with PVA 60% and polyelectrolyte 40% showed the best compromise among mechanical, homogeneous, and ion-exchange properties. Gaseous dibromoethane was used as a crosslinking agent to form the PVA network and for efficient entrapment of the polyelectrolyte in the membrane. The crosslinking time (tc) was optimized for each type of membrane and its influence was studied by thermogravimetric analysis of the sample and scanning electron microscopy observations. The best results (large ion-exchange capacity and small swelling ratio) were obtained for PVA/PAA and PVA/PSSNa/PSSH membranes. Among anion-exchange membranes, PVA/PEI gave the best permselectivity (low co-ion leakage) and the highest ion-exchange capacity. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel amphiphilic phosphorylated-calix-[4]-arenes, 5,11,17,23-tetrakis(dihydroxyphosphonyl)-25,26,27,28-tetradecyloxy-calix-[4]-arene and 5,11,17,23-tetrakis(dihydroxyphosphonyl)-25,26,27,28-tetradodecyloxy-calix-[4]-arene, have been synthesized, and their interactions with the cations Na⁺, K⁺, Mg²⁺, and Ca²⁺ have been measured at varying concentrations of the chloride salts. The systems were studied both at the air−water interface and in aqueous suspension as colloidal nanostructures. In the Langmuir experiments, monolayer expansion and increase in collapse pressure were observed for Na⁺ at a concentration of 145 mM. For Mg²⁺, there was monolayer expansion accompanied by the formation of a second phase at a subphase concentration of 30 mM. In contrast, in the case of Ca²⁺ there is an apparent contraction of the monolayer. The nanostructures were imaged by means of atomic force microscopy in the noncontact mode. As aqueous dispersions, no change in size or stability of the colloidal systems was observed with the monovalent cations; however, for the divalent cations at concentrations above 3 mM for Mg²⁺ and 3 mM for Ca²⁺ there is aggregation and flocculation of the dispersions.

(C₅Me₅)₂Yb·OEt₂ reacts with terpyridine and tetrapyridinylpyrazine to afford new mixed-valent systems.

Ets-1 is a prototype of the ETS protein family. Members of the ETS protein family contain a unique ETS domain. Ets-1 is associated with cancer progression and metastasis in many types of cancer. Many studies have shown a link between elevated expression of Ets-1 in cancer biopsies and poor survival. CCR7 is a chemokine that binds to specific ligand CCL21/CCL19. CCR7 expression is associated with tumor metastasis and infiltration into lymph nodes. The objective of this study was to test whether Ets-1 could regulate CCR7 expression and enhance tumor metastasis. Our data showed that CCR7 expression was downregulated in Ets-1-deficient T cells upon T-cell stimulation. Overexpression of Ets-1 increased CCR7 expression in breast cancer cell lines. In contrast, knockdown of Ets-1 reduced CCR7 expression. Ets-1 could directly bind to CCR7 promoter and mediate CCR7 expression in luciferase reporter assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays. Transactivation activity of Ets-1 was independent of the Pointed domain of Ets-1. Ets-1 could also enhance NF-κB and CBP transactivation of CCR7 promoter. Our results also showed that Ets-1 could modulate cancer cell transmigration by altering CCR7 expression in transwell assay and wound healing assay. Taken together, our data suggest that Ets-1 can enhance CCR7 expression and contribute to tumor cell migration. [BMB Reports 2019; 52(9): 548-553].

Cephalopods are the sole invertebrates included in the list of regulated species following the Directive 2010/63/EU. According to the Directive, achieving competence through adequate training is a requisite for people having a role in the different functions (article 23) as such carrying out procedures on animals, designing procedures and projects, taking care of animals, killing animals. Cephalopod Biology and Care Training Program is specifically designed to comply with the requirements of the "working document on the development of a common education and training framework to fulfil the requirements under the Directive 2010/63/EU". The training event occurred at the ICM-CSIC in Barcelona (Spain) where people coming from Europe, America and Asia were instructed on how to cope with regulations for the use of cephalopod molluscs for scientific purposes. The training encompasses discussion on the guidelines for the use and care of animals and their welfare with particular reference to procedures that may be of interest for neuroscience. Intensive discussion has been carried out during the training sessions with focus on behavioural studies and paradigms, welfare assessment, levels of severity of scientific procedures, animal care, handling, transport, individual identification and marking, substance administration, anaesthesia, analgesia and humane killing.
