This article examines the ‘Cilliní’ project’s interdisciplinary approach of research and filmmaking practice to explore the phenomena of cilliní. The project has created artwork that investigates and visualizes landscapes and provides a spatial narrative on the subject of cilliní, which were historic sites in Ireland used for the burial of ‘unfortunates’, principally stillborn and unbaptized infants. The article draws on the material created and experiences involved in making the short film The Lamentand creating a virtual reality installation, Cilliní Tales, which, respectively, employ the technologies and approaches of drone and 360° camera filmmaking. As the article combines the perspectives of digital storytelling, cultural memory and a consideration of the ethics of undertaking such a project, it is written in the form of a triptych. This article addresses how the (re)visitings and difficult enquiries of arts-based research in the ‘Cilliní’ project contribute to an ongoing social, political and ethical reappraisal of cilliníand the implications of (re)addressing the past in the present.

User involvement is now an internationally established feature of health and social care, service planning and delivery. This paper discusses the background context of user involvement as a prelude to describing the processes pursued in changing communication systems for bereaved service users. This qualitative study aimed to gain a deeper understanding of service user experiences of an adult bereavement group in a hospice setting in Northern Ireland. The key focus of the study was the development of a bereavement information leaflet. To achieve this, a one-off focus group meeting with seven users who were purposively selected based on their previous experience of bereavement services was held. The findings are presented using a thematic content analysis approach. These illustrate the experiences of service users and their recommendations, which informed the content and language of a new information leaflet. This paper demonstrates how service user participation can inform changes to service delivery in a manner that avoids the potential for consultation fatigue and tokenism.

The article offers information on various low-level parallel data structure and algorithms for the Microsoft.NET Framework. The structures are useful in writing managed code using multi-processor and multi-core architectures. These include countdown latch, spin wait, barriers, blocking queue, waiting, bounded buffer, thin event, lock-free last-in-first-out (LIFO) stack, loop tiling, and parallel reductions. The article discusses several architectural issues of new computer programming models that affects the scalability and parallelism computer software. It includes the symmetric multiprocessor computers, which are capable of running Windows and are found in servers and high-end workstations. It also has memory hierarchical designs, which is a substantial factor in the performance of modern software. The Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) is considered an exotic architecture wherein multiple main memories are offered to nodes of multiple central processing units. The article features broadcaster Joe Duffy and his interest in trees, particularly in sequoia trees. His interest in trees started when he came across the arboriculturist in the Phoenix Park. He was able to paint the oldest cork tree in Ireland which is in the grounds of the Courtmacsherry Hotel. He said that painting a tree will make someone realised how sophisticated and composed a tree can be. St. Anne's Park is also his favorite, especially the rose garden there.

The article focuses on the significance of transactions for memory to concurrent software. The author points out that database server software takes care of correctness through: (1) the use of transactions; and (2) ensuring atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability. The author's perspective in lock-based programming suggests that locking is not a tool but a programmable model. Atomic blocks are implemented in transactional memory. Furthermore, the serialization of access to data with locks involves trading correctness for parallelism and scalability. Moreover, techniques are employed in locking such that it is called pessimistic concurrency in database circles while optimistic concurrency is preferred by transactional memory. Finally, transactions memory is a step to concurrent programming.
