The article discusses the practical approach for improving soya bean yield in South Africa. Topics discussed include comparison of maize with soya beans for at least the photosynthetic efficiency; increase of the harvest index which is ratio between seed mass and total biomass at maturity seemed to be a method to increase yield; and importance of water use efficiency.
