Recently, Li-rich layered oxides have been considered as potential cathode material because of their promisingly high theoretical capacity (>300 mA h g[?]1). Unfortunately, this class of materials suffers from serious capacity decay and continuous voltage fade upon cycling, which highly limits their practical applications in energy storage devices. Herein, we develop a feasible and effective Pb-doping strategy to achieve extremely improved cycling capability and suppress voltage fading drawbacks while keeping relatively high capacity. Particularly, Pb-doped Li-rich oxide material exhibits a high discharge capacity of 230 mA h g[?]1 at a current density of 20 mA g[?]1 and a high capacity retention of 76% after 300 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g[?]1. More importantly, an impressive high energy density of 515 W h Kg[?]1 has been reached by building a full cell composed of Pb-doped Li-rich cathode and Ge anode, which intensively demonstrates the promising applications for high energy density lithium ion batteries.
