The main purpose of this study is to investigate the best predictor of firm performance among different proxies. A sample of 287 Czech firms was taken from automobile, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Panel data of the firms was acquired from the Albertina database for the time period from 2016 to 2020. Three different proxies of firm performance, return of assets (RoA), return of equity (RoE), and return of capital employed (RoCE) were used as dependent variables. Including three proxies of firm’s performance, 16 financial ratios were measured based on the previous literature. A machine learning-based decision tree algorithm, Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detector (CHAID), was deployed to gauge each proxy’s efficacy and examine the best proxy of the firm performance. A partitioning rule of 70:30 was maintained, which implied that 70% of the dataset was used for training and the remaining 30% for testing. The results revealed that return on assets (RoA) was detected to be a robust proxy to predict financial performance among the targeted indicators. The results and the methodology will be useful for policy-makers, stakeholders, academics and managers to take strategic business decisions and forecast financial performance.

The interplay between yHSP90α (Hsp82) and Rad51 has been implicated in the DNA double strand break repair (DSB) pathway in yeast. Here, we report that nuclear translocation of yHSP90α and its recruitment to the DSB end are essential for homologous recombination (HR) mediated DNA repair in yeast. The HsHSP90α possesses an amino-terminal extension which is phosphorylated upon DNA damage. We find that the absence of the amino-terminal extension in yHSP90α does not compromise its nuclear import, and the nonphosphorylatable-mutant HsHSP90αT7Acould be imported to the yeast nucleus upon DNA damage. Interestingly, the flexible charged-linker (CL) domains of both yHSP90α and HsHSP90α play a critical role during their nuclear translocation. The conformational restricted CL mutant yHSP90α∆(211-259), but not a shorter deletion version yHSP90α∆(211-242), fails to reach the nucleus. As the CL domain of yHSP90α is critical for its interaction with Aha1, we investigated whether Aha1 promotes the nuclear import of yHSP90α. We found that the nuclear import of yHSP90α is severely affected in ∆aha1strain. Moreover, Aha1 is accumulated in the nucleus during DNA damage. Hence, Aha1 may serve as a potential target for inhibiting nuclear function of yHSP90α. The increased sensitivity of ∆aha1strain to genotoxic agents strengthens this notion.

The presence of a nitro functionality on N‐bridged tripodal receptors has an effect on its binding ability towards HgCl2by coordination through one of the nitro oxygen atoms, ethereal oxygen and the bridgehead nitrogen atom. Decomplexation of HgCl2and recovery of the receptor Lcan be accomplished by the formation of anion complexes with [L·HgCl2]. The complexation of different anions with multiple protonated receptor units is attributable to intramolecular (N–H)+···anion interactions, at the same time the presence of multiple C–H···anion and interligand C–H···Onitrohydrogen bonds provide added stabilization. Protonation at the bridgehead nitrogen atom and the presence of the nitro functionality render the aliphatic and aryl protons sufficiently acidic for their active participation in moderate to weak C–H···anion and C–H···Onitrointeractions. Spectroscopic studies provide evidence for the formation of anion complexes from [L·HgCl2] by extrusion of HgCl2.
