Turbulent jet discharges in subcooled water pools are essential for safety systems in nuclear power plants, specifically in the pressure suppression pool of boiling water reactors and In-containment Refueling Water Storage Tank of advanced pressurized water reactors. The gas and liquid flow in these systems is investigated using multiphase flow analysis. This field has been extensively examined using a combination of experiments, theoretical models, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. ANSYS CFX offers two approaches to model multiphase flow behavior. The non-homogeneous Eulerian-Eulerian Model has been used in this work; it computes global information and is more convenient to study interpenetrated fluids. This study utilized the Large Eddy Simulation Model as the turbulence model, as it is better suited for non-stationary and buoyant flows. The CFD results of this study were validated with experimental data and theoretical results previously obtained. The figures of merit dimensionless penetration length and the dimensionless buoyancy length show good agreement with the experimental measurements. Correlations for these variables were obtained as a function of dimensionless numbers to give generality using only initial boundary conditions. CFD numerical model developed in this research has the capability to simulate the behavior of non-condensable gases discharged in water.

A quantitative evaluation of linear energy losses of heavy particles in dense plasmas is achieved on the basis of the rational approximation for the plasma dielectric function generated by the method of moments. A comparison with the simulation data is carried out. The asymptotic behavior of the plasma stopping power is studied in detail.

In this paper, we study the behavior of a system formed by two parallel channels coupled to a multimodal kinetics. The first problem that arises is the calculation of the reactivity coefficients for the higher modes. This problem is solved by means of the introduction of distribution factors for a given reactor region which depend on the involved modes. We have also performed a detailed analysis of the different instability types which can be obtained from the model changing the boundary conditions and the feedback gains of the fundamental and first harmonic modes.

The behavior of neutrons and gamma rays in a nuclear reactor or configuration of fissile material can be represented as a stochastic process. The observation of this stochastic process is usually achieved by measuring the fluctuations of the neutron and gamma ray population on the system. The general theory of the stochastic neutron field has been developed to a high degree. However, the theory of the stochastic nature of the gamma rays and neutrons couples the two processes. The generalized probability balances are developed from which the first and higher moments of the neutron and gamma rays fields are obtained. The paper also provides a description of the probability generating functions for both photon and neutron detectors that are the foundations for measurements of the fluctuations. The formalism developed in this paper for the representation of the statistical descriptors of the neutron-photon coupled field is applicable for many neutron noise analysis measurements.
