Identifying and developing young sporting talent are significant and challenging endeavours, yet guidance for coaches responsible for the provision of practice for such children is sparse (Martindale, Collins & Daubney, 2005). Participants in this study were nine boys (aged 7 to 8 years) who attended a talent selection and development programme of an English professional soccer club. Parents also participated as data collectors for their sons. An alternating treatments design was used to compare the effects of goal setting alone, an individual contingency (signed player photograph) and a group contingency (extra game time) on learning and effort in practice. Results showed that the individual and group contingencies improved technical learning, the group contingency promoted greater effort in practice but goal setting alone did not promote significant learning or practice effort. Reliable agreement scores by parents demonstrated the potential for behavioural coaching practices to enhance the talent identification and development processes.

The article focuses on the Vienna Research Project established by Tanzquartier Vienna. The research project involved six dance artists and teachers who were invited to explore and reflect on the relationship between artistic and educational aspects of dancing. The structure of this project was designed to maintain the responsive condition and character of dance. The research provides a list of dance techniques.

Little research has been published investigating the experiences of growing up with an impairment from the perspective of disabled young people. The aim of the present research was to investigate the life stories of a small number of disabled young people through their biographies. Nine young people who had a motor impairment, three girls and six boys aged between 10 and 14 years, were recruited through two segregated special schools. Each young person participated in several open interviews and was encouraged to tell his or her life story, collaborating in the co-construction of his or her own biography.Once the biographies were completed, they were thematically analysed. Four themes emerged from the analysis: family, friends, education and living with an impairment. The focus of this article is on the last theme. The findings indicate that the young people were positive about their lives even though they implied that it was a struggle at times, primarily due to the negative perceptions that the general public had of disabled people. They did not consider that their medical and therapy interventions contributed to their feeling different, but saw these interventions as important to maintaining and improving their function. They accepted that they had an impairment, but did not see this as a reason for not getting on with their lives.The findings challenge health professionals to believe that it is possible to lead a fulfilling life in spite of having an impairment and that interventions should reinforce the disabled young people's personal acceptance of themselves.

Immunoperoxidase staining of LICR-LON M8, a mouse monoclonal antibody reactive with epithelial membrane antigen, showed a strong reaction with colorectal cancer. This finding prompted an immunoscintigraphic study of colorectal cancer patients using this antibody. Sixteen patients had external gamma scintigraphy after intravenous injection of indium 111-labeled M8. Positive scans were obtained in 11 of the 13 patients with primary colorectal cancers, and 2 of the 3 patients with recurrent tumors. The high indium 111 background in the liver prevented the detection of hepatic metastases in 5 patients. Twelve patients had samples taken of tumor, normal colon, and venous blood at the time of surgery. The ratio of labeled antibody uptake in tumor to that of blood was 5.1 (±3.6 S.D.), which was significantly different (P=0.001) to that of the similar ratio for normal colon (2.0±1.6 S.D.). The tumor to normal colon uptake ratio was 2.6 (±1.3 S.D.). These results suggest a specific uptake of indium 111-labeled M8 by colorectal cancer.

The article talks about the mode05 and Vienna Research Project. The mode05 explores the new models for dance education, it was proposed and organised by Fabrik Potsdam and members of the Berlin dance community. The Vienna Research Project is aimed for artist/teachers to exchange and reflect on their practice, it was an initiative of Tranzquartier Vienna. Details of the research are included.
