- Abstract
We develop a theory of Hilbert-space valued stochastic integration with respect to cylindrical martingale-valued measures. As part of our construction, we expand the concept of quadratic variation, introduced by Veraar and Yaroslavtsev (Electron J Probab 21:1–53, 2016), to the case of cylindrical martingale-valued measures that are allowed to have discontinuous paths (this is carried out within the context of separable Banach spaces). Our theory of stochastic integration is applied to address the existence and uniqueness of solutions to stochastic partial differential equations in Hilbert spaces.

6. Thermography applied in the diagnostic assessment of bone fractures

- Abstract
Infrared thermography has been used in many medical applications. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate, through systematic review and meta-analysis, studies using medical thermography for the diagnosis fractures and clinical follow-up of bone healing. Methods: Articles were selected from SciELO, MEDLINE/PubMed, Lilacs, Google Scholar, and Science Direct databases, between the years 2000 to 2020, using the descriptors: medical image/clinical diagnosis/bone fracture/bone consolidation/thermographic analysis identified by the Health Sciences and Medical Subject Headings, in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. The results of the studies were combined through the fixed effects model using the Mantel–Haenszel method and random effects analysis using the DerSimonian–Laird method. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the QUADAS-2 scale and the level of evidence, by the GRADE system, regarding the effectiveness of infrared thermography in diagnosing bone fractures. Results: of 364 articles identified, 12 studies were selected for quantitative analysis. The meta-analysis showed a sensitivity of up to 97.5% and specificity of 98.8% in detecting bone injuries. Conclusions: The evaluation of bone fractures by infrared medical thermography has demonstrated high sensitivity, reliability, and efficacy as a complementary method for monitoring. Thus, it can minimize the use of ionizing radiation-based examinations such as X-rays.

- Abstract
La valvulopatía mitral constituye una de las principales causas de las enfermedades cardíacas y se encuentra en aumento debido al envejecimiento de la población. Se clasifican en insuficiencia y estenosis mitral en función del tipo de disfunción. La fiebre reumática encabeza las causas de estenosis mitral, aunque la degenerativa continúa incrementándose a consecuencia del aumento de la expectativa de vida de la población. La insuficiencia mitral se clasifica en dos grupos en función de su fisiopatología: la insuficiencia mitral orgánica por afectación primaria del aparato valvular mitral, y la insuficiencia mitral funcional que presenta un mal funcionamiento de la válvula mitral secundario a disfunción y dilatación ventricular sin aparato valvular mitral íntegro. El tratamiento se dirige cada vez más a la conservación de la válvula mitral, intentando evitar el recambio valvular mitral en la medida de lo posible. En la estenosis mitral se aboga por las técnicas percutáneas de valvuloplastia como primera opción, y en la insuficiencia mitral preferiblemente técnicas quirúrgicas de reparación o tratamientos percutáneos en los cuales existen múltiples avances en los últimos años, especialmente en el tratamiento de la insuficiencia funcional.

- Abstract
La valvulopatía mitral constituye la segunda valvulopatía en frecuencia por detrás de la valvulopatía aórtica. La estenosis mitral, si bien es más propia de población de países en vías de desarrollo, continúa teniendo presencia en la práctica clínica habitual en nuestro entorno. La insuficiencia mitral es más frecuente que la estenosis en los países industrializados, únicamente por detrás de la estenosis aórtica, y en muchas ocasiones es secundaria a otra cardiopatía subyacente que condiciona la dilatación del ventrículo izquierdo, a destacar la cardiopatía isquémica. La prueba diagnóstica fundamental es el ecocardiograma transtorácico, que en la mayoría de los casos nos permite, además del diagnóstico, la clasificación de la severidad de la valvulopatía. El ecocardiograma transesofágico cobra especial relevancia de cara a la valoración previa o a la decisión entre tratamiento quirúrgico o percutáneo. El tratamiento de elección en la estenosis mitral, siempre que sea posible por condiciones anatómicas favorables, será el intervencionismo percutáneo por delante de la cirugía. En la insuficiencia mitral, en los últimos años, vienen cobrando especial relevancia las técnicas percutáneas en determinados casos. La cirugía de elección será la reparación valvular, procurando evitar el recambio protésico siempre que sea posible y la anatomía del paciente lo permita.

9. Pollination ecology and floral scent chemistry of Philodendron fragrantissimum(Araceae)

ABSTRACTIn French Guiana, Philodendron fragrantissimum(Hook.) G.Don was specifically pollinated by a single species of night-active cyclocephaline scarab, Cyclocephala simulatrixHöhne. Its inflorescences exhibited short-lasting anthesis (~30 h) and characteristic floral traits such as floral thermogenesis, edible/nutritious floral tissues, and profuse floral scent emission. Our insect exclusion experiments indicate that entomophilous cross-pollination is obligatory for P. fragrantissimum, with olfactory signalling playing a pivotal role in pollinator attraction. Three volatile organic compounds – methyl benzoate, (Z)-jasmone, and dehydrojasmone – dominate the floral scent of pistillate phase inflorescences (84–99%), but their relative proportions were different according to the headspace sampling method used, dynamic or static. Local pollination services provided by both female and male C. simulatrixare effective, as evidenced by a high visitation rate (>70%) that resulted in 55% of the inflorescences maturing into infructescences. Moreover, pollination was highly efficient, since 2–3 beetles sufficed to pollinate an average 94% of the pistillate flowers.

10. Co-pollination, constancy, and efficiency over time: small beetles and the reproductive success of Acrocomia aculeata(Arecaceae) in the Colombian Orinoquia

- Abstract
ABSTRACTAcrocomia aculeatais under accelerated domestication due to the high yield and quality of the oils obtained from the fruits. Key details about its reproduction and fruit production, notably its dependence on cross-pollination, have not been thoroughly assessed. In the course of three successive reproductive seasons, we investigated the phenology, floral biology, pollination ecology, and reproductive efficiency of a natural population of A. aculeatain the department of Casanare, Colombian Orinoquia. We determined the effective pollinators among floral visitors based on their abundance, pollen carrying capacity, and constancy in association with receptive female-phase inflorescences. The studied population of A. aculeataexhibited a seasonal reproductive cycle, producing inflorescences during the drier months of December to April (peaking in March) and mature fruits from October to March. Each individual produces six to ten protogynous inflorescences, with a female phase that lasts ca. 12 h and a male phase extending for four to five days. A total of 48 insect species were observed in association with A. aculeata, averaging over 3500 visitors per anthetic female-phase inflorescence. Flower weevils (Andranthobiusspp.; Derelomini) and small sap beetles (Mystropssp.; Mystropini) were the most abundant visiting species and main pollinators, accounting for 90–95% of effective pollination services. Their high efficiency as pollen vectors was evident, as fructification rates reached on average 65.5% during the three years of study. Our findings support the assumption that co-pollination in A. aculeataevolved as a specialized strategy to maintain a high and temporally stable reproductive efficiency over time.

12. Copper(II) complex-loaded castor oil-based nanostructured lipid carriers used against Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Development, characterisation, in vitro andin vivobiological assays

A copper(II) complex-loaded castor oil-based nanostructured lipid carrier was evaluated to enhance the poor water solubility of antimicrobial compounds, improving their biological properties and antimicrobial activity againstMycobacterium tuberculosis. Nanostructured lipid carriers were composed of the castor oil, polyoxyethylene 40 stearate and caprylic/capric triglyceride, poloxamer 407, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and three different copper(II) complexes. The systems were ultrasonicated at an amplitude of 8% for 20 min and an ice bath was used throughout the procedure. The blank nanostructured lipid carrier (F5) and nanostructured lipid carriers loaded with copper(II) complex 1, 2 and 3 (F5.1, F5.2 and F5.3, respectively) for 45 days presented values of mean diameter, poly dispersity index and zeta potential ranging from 186 to 199 nm, 0.14 to 0.2 and 24 to 30 mV, respectively. Atomic force microscopy indicated that the nanostructured lipid carriers were distributed at the nanoscale, corroborating the mean diameter data. Differential scanning calorimetry determined the melting points of the constituents of the nanostructured lipid carriers. The antimicrobial activity of copper(II) complexloaded F5 againstM. tuberculosis H37Rv showed better anti-tuberculosis activity than the free complexes.In vivo biological assays of complex-loaded F5 demonstrated reduced toxicity. Our results suggest that nanostructured lipid carriers could be a potential nanotechnological strategy to optimise tuberculosis treatment.

13. Impact of the reduction of graphite content in critical properties of MgO–C bricks for steelmaking industry

- Abstract
Nowadays, the use of lower amounts of graphite in MgO–C bricks for the steelmaking industry is motivated by several reasons, including the reduction of CO2emissions. In this work, a MgO–C brick with 12 wt% graphite, was evaluated in comparison with a similar material containing just 8 wt% of this component. The changes induced in the brick by thermal treatments (graphite bed) between 500 and 1400 °C were analyzed comparatively. Moreover, the effect of reducing the graphite content in the mechanical properties at RT, 1000 and 1400 °C (compressive tests, in argon) and the oxidation resistance in air at 1000 and 1400 °C was determined. At 1000 °C, the refractory with 8 wt% graphite exhibited the highest mechanical strength and stiffness. Furthermore, although the decarburized area was larger after treatment at 1000 °C in air in this brick, the mass and carbon losses showed the opposite trend.

- Abstract
In this work we study the formation of patterns of neuronal activity when some input are presented to the network. For this task a recently developed model of neuron is utilized. This model requires a very low computational effort but presents many characteristics of more complex models such as, spiking, bursting and sub-threshold oscillations, and therefore the realistic study of the behavior of big ensembles of neurons can be aborded, even under real time conditions. New results of the application of the wavelet transform technique to the analysis of pattern formation and the possible encoding of rhythms are presented; they show that this simple, low-computational, neuron model behaves much like more complex ones.

Complications occurring at any level of foetal oxygen supply will result in hypoxaemia, and this may ultimately lead to hypoxia/acidosis and neurological damage. Hypoxic–ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) is the short-term neurological dysfunction caused by intrapartum hypoxia/acidosis, and this diagnosis requires the presence of a number of findings, including the confirmation of newborn metabolic acidosis, low Apgar scores, early imaging evidence of cerebral oedema and the appearance of clinical signs of neurological dysfunction in the first 48 h of life. Cerebral palsy (CP) consists of a heterogeneous group of nonprogressive movement and posture disorders, frequently accompanied by cognitive and sensory impairments, epilepsy, nutritional deficiencies and secondary musculoskeletal lesions. Although CP is the most common long-term neurological complication associated with intrapartum hypoxia/acidosis, >80% of cases are caused by other phenomena. Data on minor long-term neurological deficits are scarce, but they suggest that less serious intellectual and motor impairments may result from intrapartum hypoxia/acidosis. This chapter focuses on the existing evidence of neurological damage associated with poor foetal oxygenation during labour.

A simple, sensitive and specific liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry method for the quantification of bromopride I in human plasma is presented. Sample preparation consisted of the addition of procainamide II as the internal standard, liquid‐liquid extraction in alkaline conditions using hexane‐ethyl acetate (1 : 1, v/v) as the extracting solvent, followed by centrifugation, evaporation of the solvent and sample reconstitution in acetonitrile. Both I and II (internal standard, IS) were analyzed using a C18 column and the mobile‐phase acetonitrile‐water (formic acid 0.1%). The eluted compounds were monitored using electrospray tandem mass spectrometry. The analyses were carried out by multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) using the parent‐to‐daughter combinations of m/z 344.20 > 271.00 and m/z 236.30 > 163.10. The areas of peaks from analyte and IS were used for quantification of I. The achieved limit of quantification was 1.0 ng/ml and the assay exhibited a linear dynamic range of 1–100.0 ng/ml and gave a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.995 or better. Validation results on linearity, specificity, accuracy, precision and stability, as well as application to the analysis of samples taken up to 24 h after oral administration of 10 mg of I in healthy volunteers demonstrated the applicability to bioequivalence studies. 27. Corrosion Behavior of Aerosol Thermal Sprayed ZrO2 Coatings

- Abstract
ZrO2 coatings of 2–7 μm thickness were obtained by the aerosol thermal spraying process on 316L stainless steel. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that these films consisted of nanocrystalline ZrO2 aggregates with a monoclinic structure. Corrosion tests were performed in aqueous NaCl (0.5 M) and H2SO4 (20 wt%) using potentiodynamic cyclic polarization curves. Surfaces and cross-sections of coated samples were compared with the uncoated substrate. This evaluation indicated decreased pitting of the steel with coating. The protection against corrosion in NaCl solution depended strongly on coating thickness. No protection was found for thicknesses less than 5 μm. Meanwhile, a marked reduction of the current density was produced by thicker coatings that acted as an effective corrosion barrier. Coatings thicker than 5 μm also provided significant protection against corrosion in H2SO4.

28. Inconsistencies in classification by experts of cardiotocograms and subsequent clinical decision

- Abstract
Inter‐observer agreement in the interpretation according to the FIGO guidelines of 33 cardiotocographic tracings by experts and subsequent clinical decision was evaluated, using the kappa statistic (K) and the proportions of agreement (Pa). Overall agreement in the classification of tracings was fair (K = 0.48) and was better for normal (Pa = 0.62), than for suspicious (Pa = 0.42) or pathologic tracings (Pa = 0.25). Overall agreement on clinical decision was slightly higher (K = 0.59), but mostly was centred on the decision to take ‘no action’ (Pa = 0.79). Experts especially disagreed over the decisions to ‘monitor closely’ (Pa = 0.14) or to ‘intervene immediately’ (Pa = 0.38). These limitations should be taken into account in clinical audits and in medical jurisprudence.

30. On the Time-Independent Perturbation Theory

The time-independent perturbation theory is developed for an arbitrary operator which can be expanded in powers of the perturbation parameter λ. A unified formulation allows the establishment of a formal interrelation between the methods of Rayleigh-Schrödinger and of Bril louin-Wigner. We introduce a nonunitary transformation operator to connect the nth eigenket of Ĥ(0) with the nth eigenket of Ĥ(λ) and it is proven that this operator satisfies a Lippmann-Schwinger type equation. A perturbation method based on this equation is proposed, and it is applied to describe an electron moving in a Yukawa potential.

A family with a distinct form of congenital generalized hypertrichosis was studied. Males were more severely affected than females, who exhibited asymmetric hair distribution. This finding was attributed to lyonization, since genealogical studies indicated an X-linked pattern of inheritance. A back mutation is postulated as the origin of this new phenotype.

We introduce a multichannel “potential curves hopping” model and obtain the exact quantum mechanical S-matrix by solving the associated set of coupled second-order ordinary differential equations that describes the inelastic collisions between atomic particles. The only assumption is that the interaction matrix element between each pair of channels (say, γ and β) is of the form Uγβ(r) = Uβγ(r) =: Uγβδ( r - rγβ), where δ (c) is the Dirac deltafunction, and rγβand Uγβare parameters which can be chosen freely.

In previous publications, we described the continuous production of D-fructose from enzymatic hydrolysis of inulin with immobilized permeabiliized cells ofKluyveromyces marxianusand the increase of productivity obtained by using a mutant selected by NTG action on the wild-type strain. By improving reactor performance, it has been possible to reach 2000 g/L/d of liberated sugar from an inulin solution with the mutant strain.

- Abstract
In this study, we evaluated the reproducibility of analysis of basal body temperature graphs under optimized conditions for agreement. A total of 160 recordings were selected from spontaneous cycles of infertile women and analysed by three experienced clinicians using uniform criteria. Agreement at the various stages of analysis was assessed by the 'proportions of agreement' with 95% confidence intervals. Agreement in identification of the thermal nadir was clearly superior to that reported in previous publications. Reproducibility of 'ovulatory' graph features (i.e. biphasic graphs and adequate thermal shifts) was excellent. Agreement in classification of monophasic graphs and inadequate thermal shifts, although lower, was still good. Thus, with experienced observers and uniform criteria, a good agreement can be achieved in analysis of the most important parameters of the basal body temperature graph. We believe that an effort should be made to generalize the use of uniform analysis criteria, because only then can results from different institutions be compared and the remaining clinical evaluation of the method be performed.

Presumed intrapartum hypoxic events are commonly cited in malpractice cases in obstetrics. Clinical interpretation of the fetal heart rate, known in the United Kingdom as a cardiotocograph (CTG), tracing has a direct impact on classifying a specific tracing as abnormal. Interpretation by clinicians of various types of deceleration in a tracing is subjective, and there have been frequent reports of inconsistencies related to CTG interpretation.

- Abstract
The uncommon jasmone derivatives dehydrojasmone, isojasmol, and isojasmyl acetate, floral scent compounds from night-blooming Araceae, were synthesized in a scalable synthesis employing conjugate addition with a selenoacetal as the key step. The stereoselective strategy with subsequent enzymatic kinetic resolution allowed determining the absolute configuration of the natural compounds by GC on a chiral phase. The homoterpene (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatrien-5-yl acetate, another uncommon scent compound, was obtained by α-regioselective aldehyde prenylation. The biological activities of dehydrojasmone and isojasmol were investigated in field assays, showing that these unique volatiles are able to selectively attract specific cyclocephaline scarab beetle pollinators.

For bound quantum systems in presence of strong long wavelength electromagnetic fields the time evolution operator is calculated by application of the Magnus expansion in the interaction picture. We find that the first two orders of the Magnus expansion of the interaction picture time evolution operator contain both the momentum-translation transform of H.R. Reiss and terms which give rise to a non-static Stark-effect.

PurposeReal-life experience with eslicarbazepine acetate (ESL) after first monotherapy failure in a large series of patients with partial epilepsyMethodMulticenter, retrospective, 1 year, observational study. Inclusion criteria: 1) patients older than 18 years; 2) partial-onset seizures; 3) Failure of first monotherapy for any reason (efficacy, tolerability, compliance). Time-points for revision were at 3, 6 and 12 months. Main objectives were to assess efficacy and tolerability.ResultsA total of 253 patients were collected. The one-year retention rate was 92.9%. The mean dose after 12 months was 903.6±267 mg (range 400–1600). At 12 months, the percentage of seizure-free patients was 62.3%, 82.5% were responders and 5.6% did worse. Along the follow-up 31.6% of the patients reported adverse events and 3.6% discontinued for that reason. The main side effects were somnolence (8.7%) and dizziness (5.1%). A total of 127 patients (50.2%) were converted to monotherapy for at least 6 months. In this group, 77.2% were seizure-free and 29.1% of the patients reported AE after 1 year.ConclusionESL outcome along 1 year follow-up after first monotherapy failure showed an optimal efficacy and tolerability profile. Half of patients were converted to monotherapy and followed for at least 6 months.
