- Abstract
We present first measurements of the pseudorapidity and azimuth (η, φ) bin-size dependence of event-wise mean transverse-momentum 〈pt〉 fluctuations for Au–Au collisions at GeV. We invert that dependence to obtain pt autocorrelations on differences (ηΔ, φΔ) interpreted to represent velocity/temperature distributions on (η, φ). The general form of the autocorrelations suggests that the basic correlation mechanism is parton fragmentation. The autocorrelations vary rapidly with collision centrality, which suggests that fragmentation is strongly modified by a dissipative medium in the more central Au–Au collisions relative to peripheral or p–p collisions.

- Abstract
The STAR detector has made a variety of measurements of strange and other hadronic species in Au+Au collisions at &surd;sNN &equal; 130 GeV. A comparison of kaon and pion production enables an examination of the systematics of strangeness production with energy by comparing them to lower energy collisions. Anti-baryon to baryon ratios indicate a much reduced net-baryon density and transverse momentum spectra show that a picture of transverse expansion seems appropriate.

The central drift chamber for the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B-factory at SLAC is a cylindrical chamber with a length of 280cm and outer radius of 81cm. It consists of 40 layers of small hexagonal cells arranged in 10 axial and stereo super layers.

- Abstract
We have studied the process e+e−→ nγ(n≥ 2) at an average center-of-mass energy of 133 GeV using the L3 detector at LEP. For an integrated luminosity of 4.95 pb−1we find one γγγγ(γ) final state with only hard photons. The rates of both γγγ and γγ events are consistent with QED expectations. The cross section of the reaction e+e−→ γγ(γ) in the polar range 16° < θγ< 164° is measured to be 22.6 ± 2.2 pb. Decays into photons of narrow scalar resonances with masses between 90 and 130 GeV are not observed. The observation of the event with four energetic photons is consistent with QED although the kinematic configuration of the photons is atypical.

- Abstract
The inclusive semileptonic branching ratios b→eνX,μ νX,τ νX andνX have been measured at LEP with the L3 detector. The analysis is based on 2-jet hadronic Z decays obtained in the data collected between 1991 and 1992. Three separate event samples are analysed, containing electrons, muons and large missing energy (neutrinos), respectively. From the electron sample, we measure Br(b→eνX)=(10.89±0.20±0.51)% and, from the muon sample, Br(b→μ νX)=(10.82±0.15±0.59)%, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. From the missing energy sample, we measure Br(b→νX)=(23.08±0.77±1.24)%, assuming the relative semileptonic decay rates e:μ:τ=1:1:(0.25±0.05), according to theoretical expectations. From a combined analysis of all three samples and constraining the relative semileptonic rates, we measure Br(b→eνX)=Br(b→μ νX)=(10.68±0.11±0.46)%. Alternatively, we can remove the constraint on the relative semileptonic rates and measure Br(b→τ νX)=(1.7±0.5±1.1)%.

- Abstract
The BaBar Drift Chamber is now under construction. We review its design, the progress in the construction of the components, the plan for assembly and stringing and we present test results obtained with a prototype exposed at SLAC to cosmic rays. We also report on projected dE/dxperformance from beam tests done with a chamber with a different cell design.
