To prevent the excessive depletion of natural resources, sustainable development requires using alternate sustainable materials. Researchers in the field of advanced construction materials are increasingly paying attention to kenaf fibers as a "green" material because of their possible application in composites to advance sustainable development. However, there has been no attempt of scientometric analysis to investigate the comprehensive understanding of the present state of applications of kenaf fibers in reinforced concrete. The study aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of the existing kenaf fibers reinforced concrete literature and to provide a picture of the research status during the last ten years from 2013 to September 2022. There were 303 articles extracted from the Scopus database. The “VOSviewer” tool was employed to visualize the literature containing the most active scientific journals, countries, and highly used keywords in the field of fibers reinforced concrete. The outcomes showed that “Hybrid Composites”, “Impact Strength”, “Water Absorption”, “Scanning Electron Microscopy”, “Polypropylenes” and “Polymer Composite” have recently emerged as themes related to the applications of KFRC, and grabbed the interest of academics, may also offer future research opportunities. Additionally, according to the frequency of the keywords used, three important research domains associated with kenaf fibers within the concrete in the construction materials field have been identified, including “Mechanical Properties”, “Fiber Reinforced Plastics”, and “Tensile Strength”. Furthermore, the recent studies on the impact of kenaf fiber utilization on the structural performance of reinforced concrete are reviewed. Accordingly, the explanations related to research findings, suggestions for future studies have been provided on the incorporation of kenaf fibers reinforced concrete in civil engineering applications.

The world faces growing water scarcity and the need for efficient wastewater treatment. The application of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques holds great promise in optimizing processes, enhancing predictive capabilities, and supporting informed decision-making in this critical domain. This study, which focuses on research trends and developments in the use of AI for wastewater treatment, provides a thorough bibliometric analysis of 368 documents from the Scopus database between 2015 and 2024. The analysis reveals a significant increase in research output, peaking at 93 publications in 2023. This suggests growing interest and focus in leveraging AI techniques to address wastewater management challenges. According to the data, the most important journals in this field are Chemosphere, Water Science and Technology, and the Journal of Environmental Management. Significant contributors to the study were China, India, and the US, with the University of Johannesburg emerging as the most influential institution. The main research direction in this field is properly indicated by the frequently used keywords "artificial intelligence," "wastewater treatment," and "machine learning," according to the analysis of keywords indicating the technological approaches being explored. Adsorption, microalgae, and anaerobic digestion are common methods that are gaining popularity. The most frequently studied wastewater contaminants in recent years have included heavy metals and nutrients. The findings of this analysis provide valuable insights that can guide future research priorities, inform the development of effective AI-driven solutions, and contribute to more sustainable water management practices.

The rapid urbanization, economic growth, and improved living standards in developing countries are causing a significant increase in the amount of solid waste generated. To ensure a healthy environment for city residents and effectively manage waste resources, it is crucial to employ scientific methods as decision-making tools. However, the lack of competent institutions, financial and technical capabilities, and irresponsible social behavior hinder the implementation of an integrated and sustainable solid waste management (SWM) system. To address these challenges, researchers have proposed an optimized solution using mathematical modeling and GIS. This solution aims to enhance collection efficiency, optimize transportation, and maximize resource recovery and waste processing. By using linear mathematical modeling and the Arc-GIS Network Analyst tool, the study achieved a 13% route optimization in Phase 7 Hayatabad, indicating the potential for a more sustainable and cost-effective municipal solid waste (MSW) collection system in urban Peshawar. The study also explored different scenarios, such as increasing waste collection efficiency and implementing waste-to-energy technologies, which resulted in improved economic viability and reduced payback periods. Overall, the research highlights the need for adaptive strategies and policy reforms to establish sustainable and efficient waste management systems in rapidly growing cities, fostering a cleaner and more environmentally responsible urban future.

Olive mill wastewater (OMW) poses a significant environmental challenge due to its complex composition and high organic content. Despite extensive research on OMW treatment, further investigation is required to enhance our understanding of this field. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 1188 articles from the Scopus database, focusing on research trends and advancements in OMW treatment processes. The analysis reveals that over 34.1% of the papers were published in the last five years, indicating a growing interest in addressing the challenges associated with OMW. The study identifies the Journal of Bioresource Technology, Desalination and Water Treatment and the Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology as influential journals in this field. Geographically, Italy, Spain, and Greece are the leading contributors to OMW treatment research, reflecting the regional significance. The analysis of keywords highlights "Olive mill wastewater," "phenolic compounds," and "polyphenols" as frequently used terms, representing the primary research focus. Anaerobic digestion, adsorption, and electrocoagulation are common processes that are getting more popular. Commonly researched OMW pollutants concerned with phenolic compounds, polyphenols, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) emerged as the most frequently studied pollutants in recent years. It is concluded that this field of knowledge has aroused great interest since 2006; however, more research can still be carried out on the application of various treatment processes to treat OMW. The findings of this study provide an overview of the latest advancements.

Plain asphalt typically is an insulator to the flow of electric current. It can be modified to conductive asphalt by adding various recyclable and environment-friendly conductive additives in it. Such asphalt can provide smart and multifunctional environmentally sustainable applications in the pavement industry. Its production and performance behavior parameters are, however, yet to be entirely understood. This study presents a review of literature on conductive asphalt using systematic literature review and scientometric analysis techniques to holistically understand conductive asphalt and current research developments in this field. The objective was to perform a critical review and scientometrically characterize the published research studies. Literature was acquired from credible research databases for the study duration from 2009 to 2022, and these were subsequently using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) protocol to identify the most relevant documents. Sixty-two bibliographic articles were consequently selected for the study. Systematic review identified the research themes and techniques adopted in the field of conductive asphalt technology, and the scientometric analysis quantified the characteristics of the articles. VOSViewer was utilized for visualizing the key findings of the quantitative analysis. Development of conductive asphalt has great research potential and improving its piezoresistivity and conductive network is the future research focus of smart asphalt technology. An experimental study was also conducted, and the results were presented. A dataset of 75 Marshall asphalt specimens of various mix proportions was compiled to assess the Marshall parameters, volumetrics, and their electrical resistivity. 60/70 penetration grade bitumen was used along with five waste tire metal fiber based modified asphalt mixes with contents 0%, 0.375%, 0.75%, 1.125%, and 1.5%. This review, along with experimental investigations, provided an in-depth understanding of conductive asphalt concrete’s behavior, the emerging trends to support future studies, and helped to identify the current major research themes and the corresponding challenges.

The agro and allied sectors generate various wastes, including crop residues, seeds, peels, and husks, which, if not managed properly, can cause significant environmental harm. However, these wastes hold potential as valuable resources that can be transformed into useful components for food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and bioenergy applications. This bibliometric study analyzes research trends, methods, and applications related to agro-waste valorization from 2000 to 2024. The analysis reveals a marked increase in the adoption of green extraction methodologies, such as supercritical fluid extraction and enzymatic extraction, with publications rising from 1 in 2001 to 78 in 2024. Key countries leading this research include India, Brazil, and China, while Portugal is notable for its high average citations per document, indicating impactful research contributions. Prominent journals in this field include “Trends in Food Science and Technology,” “Food Research International,” and “Waste and Biomass Valorization,” which focus on the extraction of bioactive compounds and their applications. The results highlight the potential of agro-waste for developing functional foods, packaging, and other value-added products, while also addressing challenges related to scalability, and variability in bioactive compound recovery. This study underscores the effectiveness of various extraction methods, including supercritical fluid extraction, hydro-methanolic extraction, and solid-state fermentation, in recovering bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants. Future research should focus on optimizing extraction methodologies, enhancing bioavailability, and exploring synergistic approaches to integrate agro-waste processing with renewable energy systems.
