-Ón suffix, that is usually considered to be an augmentative one, shows a diminutive or reductive character in some Spanish words. This apparent semantic anomaly is the focus of this work, whose objective is to analyze several words in which the addition of the -on suffix to a lexical root creates adjective or names with a meaning of reduction, deficiency or shortage, as we can see in "pelón" or "rabón", words in which disappears the natural tendency of this suffix to conform augmentative words as "cabezón", "comilón" or "azulón".
