The effects of dietary supplementation with phytogenic blend (PB) of Aerva lanata, Piper betle, Cynodon dactylon, and Piper nigrumon growth performance, ileal nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, and cecal microflora were determined in a 42-day broiler feeding trial. A total of 192 broilers were assigned to 4 dietary treatments (6 replicates and 8 birds/replicate): basal diet, basal diet supplemented with antibiotic (chlortetracycline), 1% and 2% PB, respectively. The body weight gain (BWG) of starter chicks increased linearly (P= 0.023) as dietary supplementation levels of PB increased. At grower phase, broilers fed diet supplemented with 1% PB had similar BWG with the antibiotic group, but other treatments had reduced (P= 0.0001) BWG. Dietary supplementation with 1% PB resulted in the highest (P< 0.0001) BWG during the study. Feed intake was not affected by the treatments during the starter, finisher, and overall rearing periods. Broilers fed diet supplemented with 1% PB had the best (P< 0.0001) feed conversion ratio during the study.

This paper evaluates the features of mainstream programming paradigms. Imperative, object oriented programming and functional programming concepts are considered here. This is an effort to identify the programming paradigms which consume less resource from mobile devices. Designers usually depend on the programming languages, language oriented programming design is in current practice. Choosing appropriate programming paradigms during the mobile application design is not in practice now; Failure to use the best approaches for mobile computing from programming paradigms will cause mobile applications to consume more mobile resources. Imperative paradigm concepts such as inheritance, creating redundant objects, unnecessary constructors, recursion, strings concatenation, thread synchronization, using global variables and abstract methods results in redundancy, memory leaks, stack overflow, low execution speed and consumes more memory. These features are relatively not suitable for mobile software development. Functional paradigm concepts such as higher order functions, tail recursion, lazy evaluation, referential transparency, parametric polymorphism, and list comprehension principles are suitable for mobile software development as they consume less memory and or use less processing power. Using appropriate paradigms will optimize the resource utilisation of mobile applications in mobile devices.

A 35 month old child was referred for electrophysiology testing with pendular nystagmus, corresponding head oscillations and reduced vision. Flash visual evoked potential (VEP) revealed large responses at the right occiput (but not the left occiput) from the right eye and similar large responses at only the left occiput from the left eye, indicating absent/deficient crossover at the chiasm. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan subsequently confirmed absence of the optic chiasm. There was no other evidence of midline brain defects. Her subsequent development to age 11 has been followed. The nystagmus has remained mainly horizontal but a torsional component was noted from age 5 years and described as see-saw at age 6 years. A small right esotropia was noted at 6 years and spectacles prescribed for low hypermetropic refractive error. Bilateral superior rectus recessions at age 7 years produced an improved head posture. Her visual acuity has remained stable at around 6/24 from age 4 years. An elderly female presented for pelvic ultrasound examination with a history of pelvic pain and a possible pelvic mass. Ultrasound images suggested a fibroid uterus, but were equivocal due to suboptimal scan. Computed tomography scan made the distinction between intra- and extra-uterine pathology by showing massively enlarged partially thrombosed internal iliac artery aneurysms situated adjacent to the uterus mimicking fibroids. This case illustrates an uncommon cause of pelvic pain that demonstrated an unusual and important possible pitfall in ultrasound imaging when imaging is suboptimal and endovaginal scanning is not undertaken.

Carotid sonography is a well-established technique in the evaluation of patients with neurologic symptoms. We describe the case of a woman in whom duplex Doppler sonography of the extracranial carotid circulation showed high-velocity diastolic flow and a low resistance index without turbulence or morphologic abnormality of the artery. A suspected cause of this finding was low-resistance distal circulation secondary to low-resistance intracranial circulation due to an arteriovenous malformation. This diagnosis was later confirmed by CT. Because of the significant risk of bleeding associated with an asymptomatic intracranial arteriovenous malformation, duplex Doppler sonographic findings suggesting a low-resistance waveform in the presence of a morphologically normal carotid artery should prompt further imaging. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Background: Antioxidant intakes are one of the most cherished dietary approaches for the management of oxidative stress-induced liver damages. These antioxidants exist as the bioactive compounds present in plants and other natural sources functioning in varieties of ways from acting as direct scavengers of the free radicals to acting as the modifiers of genes and proteins expressions. Chlorella vulgarisis one of such antioxidants; it is a unicellular microalga and a rich source of polyphenols which has been reported for its capacity of reducing oxidative stress by upregulation of antioxidant genes. However, there are scarce reports on its effect on antioxidant protein expressions and functions in the liver. This situation necessitates untargeted proteomic profiling of the liver due to the antioxidant intakes as carried out in this present study. Sixteen laboratory weaner rabbits of 8 weeks old with initial average bodyweight of 1060 ± 29.42 g were randomly divided into two groups (n= 8 per group); the first group served as control while the second served as the treatment group were used for this study. Results: After a period of 120 days daily consumption of 500 mg of Chlorella vulgarisbiomass per kg bodyweight of the rabbit models, the animals were sacrificed and their livers were harvested followed by protein extraction for the untargeted proteomic profiling using LC-MS/Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid™ peptides quantifier and sequencer. Also, there was an assessment of the oxidative stress biomarkers in the liver and serum of the rabbits. Five-hundred and forty-four (544) proteins were identified out of which 204 were unique to the control, 198 were unique to the treatment group, while 142 were common to both groups of the rabbits. Antioxidant proteins commonly found in both groups were upregulated in the treatment group and were significantly associated with oxidative stress-protective activities. There was a reduction in oxidative stress biomarkers of the supplemented group as indicated by the assessment of the liver malondialdehyde concentrations (p&lt; 0.05), total antioxidant capacities (p&lt; 0.05), and antioxidant enzyme activities (p&lt; 0.05). Similarly, these biomarkers were significantly reduced in the serum of the supplemented rabbits (p&lt; 0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that Chlorella vulgarisis an antioxidant agent that could be suitable for reducing liver oxidative stress damage and it is a potential drug candidate for protecting the liver against oxidative stress damages as revealed in the rabbit models.

•Proteomics study revealed the impact of organic minerals (Zn, Cu, Zn + Cu) on differential protein profiles of seminal plasma of Osmanabadi bucks.•Organic Cu and Zn + Cu supplemented groups showed diverse expression of seminal plasma proteins comparing with control and Zn supplemented groups.•Organic minerals (Cu, Zn, Cu + Zn) enhance the reproductive performance of Osmanabadi bucks by altering the protein profiles of seminal plasma.

The evolution of homologous and functionally equivalent multiprotein assemblies is intriguing considering sequence divergence of constituent proteins. Here, we studied the implications of protein sequence divergence on the structure, dynamics and function of homologous yeast and human SF3b spliceosomal subcomplexes. Human and yeast SF3b comprise of 7 and 6 proteins respectively, with all yeast proteins homologous to their human counterparts at moderate sequence identity. SF3b6, an additional component in the human SF3b, interacts with the N-terminal extension of SF3b1 while the yeast homologue Hsh155 lacks the equivalent region. Through detailed homology studies, we show that SF3b6 is absent not only in yeast but in multiple lineages of eukaryotes implying that it is critical in specific organisms. We probed for the potential role of SF3b6 in the spliceosome assembled form through structural and flexibility analyses. By analysing normal modes derived from anisotropic network models of SF3b1, we demonstrate that when SF3b1 is bound to SF3b6, similarities in the magnitude of residue motions (0.86) and inter-residue correlated motions (0.94) with Hsh155 are significantly higher than when SF3b1 is considered in isolation (0.21 and 0.89 respectively). We observed that SF3b6 promotes functionally relevant ‘open-to-close’ transition in SF3b1 by enhancing concerted residue motions. Such motions are found to occur in the Hsh155 without SF3b6. The presence of SF3b6 influences motions of 16 residues that interact with U2 snRNA/branchpoint duplex and supports the participation of its interface residues in long-range communication in the SF3b1. These results advocate that SF3b6 potentially acts as an allosteric regulator of SF3b1 for BPS selection and might play a role in alternative splicing. Furthermore, we observe variability in the relative orientation of SF3b4 and in the local structure of three β-propeller domains of SF3b3 with reference to their yeast counterparts. Such differences influence the inter-protein interactions of SF3b between these two organisms. Together, our findings highlight features of SF3b evolution and suggests that the human SF3b may have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to fine tune its molecular function.

Researchers from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Tamil Nadu, India have conducted a study on the synthesis, characterization, and anticancer activity of Ru(p-cymene) complexes bearing pyrazolyl-pyridine type ligands. The study found that these complexes showed efficient cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells and exhibited apoptosis-inducing activity and cell-free antioxidant activity. The research suggests that these complexes have potential as anticancer agents and could be used in cancer therapy. The study was funded by various organizations and has been peer-reviewed.
