Introduction:This study aims to compare the predictive capacity of ABCD, DiaRem2, Ad-DiaRem, and DiaBetter scoring systems for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remission in Turkish adult morbidly obese patients who underwent SG.

Mass spectrometric methods, which transition from chemistry laboratories to clinical laboratories in the basic field, are frequently used in areas such as metabolic analysis, endocrinology, drug research, protein studies and toxicology. Although it is preferred more than immunoassay methods in large-volume laboratories, in certain analyses, it is thought to be an important keystone in clinical laboratory practice. It has found more space in the laboratory area, with users increasing their device experience and working on the applications of problematic tests. It has the potential to take part in metabolic mapping and multiplex analysis, especially in proteomics, with its performance.

Objective.This study was aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Cushing’s syndrome and the diagnostic performance of the 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test in class 3 obese patients.

AbstractObjectiveIn this study, the objective was to evaluate the cardiovascular and metabolic effects in men with male pattern alopecia beginning before 30 years of age.MethodsTotal of 81 people (41 androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 40 healthy individuals) were included in the study. Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) measurement, high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), galectin-3 were studied. Hamilton-Norwood scale (HNS) was used to determine the AGA types of the cases.ResultsThe mean age in the AGA and control groups was 30.3 ± 7.5 and 30.8 ± 6.0, respectively. Twenty-four-hour ABP measurements, hsCRP, and galectin-3 were similar in both groups. There was a positive correlation between HNS grade with age, BMI, triglyceride levels and fasting blood glucose levels in individuals with AGA. Similarly, there was a positive correlation between HNS grade with daytime pulse wave velocity and night-time reflection magnitude. A significant positive correlation was determined between hsCRP with BMI and waist circumference, and between galectin-3 with BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, HOMA-IR in individuals with AGA.ConclusionsThis study shows that AGA patients are similar to the normal population in terms of insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome components. However, hsCRP and galectin-3 appear to be associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors in individuals with AGA.

Urinalysis is a first-line test for screening for urinary tract infection. Several devices performing strip and sediment analysis have been introduced. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of Labsan Tricell-1000 and Dirui FUS-2000 automated urine analyzers with manual microscopy.

Methyl arginine derivatives such as asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA), L-N-monomethyl arginine (L-NMMA) are formed by proteolytic catalysis following methylation of arginine residues in proteins. These metabolites reduce NO production. Methylated arginines are an important biomarker for various diseases such as cardiovascular and renal diseases. Therefore, many methods have been developed to reliably and accurately measure the levels of these metabolites. This review, HPLC and LC-MS/MS methods developed for the measurement of methylarginine derivatives are discussed. In HPLC methods, solid phase extraction, derivatization and subsequent separation by reverse phase chromatography were performed. Since these metabolites are polar, they are difficult to retain in conventional reverse phase columns. In addition, as serum levels of these metabolites are low, sensitivity problems have been observed in HPLC methods. Derivatization has been applied to eliminate these problems. However, there have been problems with the stability of derivatives formed. Another important problem is that the separation of stereoisomer ADMA and SDMA can only be achieved chromatographically. Tandem mass spectrometric methods are accurate, selective, sensitive and rapid since analytes are separated depending on m/z ratios rather than chromatographic separation. Therefore, tandem mass spectrometry methods might be considered as the goal standard for these analytes.

•The tryptophan level of the patient group significantly decreased.•The kynurenine/tryptophan ratio increased in multiple sclerosis group.•There was also no significant difference between the RRMS and SPMS groups.•No significant relationship was observed between kynurenines and the EDSS score.
