1. AdaBoost-Based Efficient Channel Estimation and Data Detection in One-Bit Massive MIMO

Abstract

The use of one-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) has been considered as a viable alternative to high resolution counterparts in realizing and commercializing massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. However, the issue of discarding the amplitude information by one-bit quantizers has to be compensated. Thus, carefully tailored methods need to be developed for one-bit channel estimation and data detection as the conventional ones cannot be used. To address these issues, the problems of one-bit channel estimation and data detection for MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system that operates over uncorrelated frequency selective channels are investigated here. We first develop channel estimators that exploit Gaussian discriminant analysis (GDA) classifier and approximate versions of it as the so-called weak classifiers in an adaptive boosting (AdaBoost) approach. Particularly, the combination of the approximate GDA classifiers with AdaBoost offers the benefit of scalability with the linear order of computations, which is critical in massive MIMO-OFDM systems. We then take advantage of the same idea for proposing the data detectors. Numerical results validate the efficiency of the proposed channel estimators and data detectors compared to other methods. They show comparable/better performance to that of the state-of-the-art methods, but require dramatically lower computational complexities and run times.

2. Reversible Laser Imprinting of Phase Change Photonic Structures in Integrated Waveguides

Abstract

Formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) is known as a fast and robust method of functionalization of material surfaces. Of particular interest are LIPSS that manifest as periodic modulation of phase state of the material, as it implies reversibility of phase modification that constitute rewritable LIPSS, and recently was demonstrated for chalcogenide phase change materials (PCMs). Due to remarkable properties of chalcogenide PCMs─nonvolatality, prominent optical contrast and ns switching speed─such novel phase change LIPSS hold potential for exciting applications in all-optical tunable photonics. In this work we explore phase change LIPSS formation in thin films of Ge2Sb2Te5(GST) integrated with planar and rib waveguides. We demonstrate that by fine-tuning laser radiation, the morphology of phase change LIPSS can be controlled, including their period and fill factor, and investigate the limitations of multicycle rewriting of the structures. We also demonstrate the formation of phase change LIPSS on a 1D waveguide, which has potential for use as tunable Bragg filters or structures for on-demand light decoupling into the far-field. The presented concept of applying phase change LIPSS offers a promising approach to enable fast and simple tuning in integrated photonic devices.

3. Toward Digital Twin Technology for Precision Pharmacology

Abstract

The authors demonstrate the feasibility of technological innovation for personalized medicine in the context of drug-induced arrhythmia. The authors use atomistic-scale structural models to predict rates of drug interaction with ion channels and make predictions of their effects in digital twins of induced pluripotent stem cell–derived cardiac myocytes. The authors construct a simplified multilayer, 1-dimensional ring model with sufficient path length to enable the prediction of arrhythmogenic dispersion of repolarization. Finally, the authors validate the computational pipeline prediction of drug effects with data and quantify drug-induced propensity to repolarization abnormalities in cardiac tissue. The technology is high throughput, computationally efficient, and low cost toward personalized pharmacologic prediction.

4. Tensor-Based 2-D DOA Estimation for L-Shaped Nested Array

Abstract

Among various sensor array configurations, the L-shaped nested array offers improved performance for 2-D direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation through co-array processing. However, conventional methods overlook the multidimensional signal structure and fail to eliminate the cross term generated from the correlated co-array signal and noise components. It leads to a significant degradation in DOA estimation performance. To deal with this problem, an iterative 2-D DOA estimation algorithm based on tensor modeling is proposed. It is capable of eliminating the cross term. Specifically, the co-array signals of virtual subarrays in orthogonal directions are derived and concatenated to construct a higher order tensor, whose factor matrices have the Vandermonde structure and preserve the interconnected azimuth and elevation information. A computationally efficient tensor decomposition method is then developed to independently estimate the azimuth and elevation angles, which are effectively paired using the spatial cross-correlation matrix. Furthermore, after investigating the cross term effect, a two-step iterative algorithm is proposed to sequentially estimate and remove the cross term based on the initial estimates obtained from the high-order tensor decomposition. Consequently, the 2-D DOA estimation with enhanced estimation accuracy, resolution, and moderate computational complexity is achieved for the L-shaped nested array. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm over competing methods.

5. Deep Tensor 2-D DOA Estimation for URA

Abstract

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation using deep neural networks has shown great potential for applications in complicated environments. However, conventional matrix-based deep neural networks vectorize multi-dimensional signal statistics into an excessively long input, necessitating a large number of parameters in neural layers. These parameters require substantial computational resources for training. To address the problem, we propose a resource-efficient tensorized neural network for deep tensor two-dimensional DOA estimation. In this network, the covariance tensor corresponding to the uniform rectangular array (URA) is propagated to hidden state tensors that encapsulate essential signal features. To reduce the number of trainable parameters, the feedforward propagation is formulated as inverse Tucker decomposition, compressing the parameters into inverse Tucker factors. An effective tensorized backpropagation procedure is then designed to train the compressed parameters, and the Tucker rank sequences are tuned through Bayesian optimization to ensure satisfactory network performance. Our simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed tensorized deep neural network over its matrix-based counterpart. In a scenario with a $10\times 10$ URA and $2$ sources, the proposed network reduces the number of trained parameters by more than $122,000$ times. Consequently, it achieves faster training speed and utilizes less GPU memory, while maintains comparable estimation accuracy and angular resolution even under non-ideal conditions and in varying scenarios.

6. Noise Reduction in Automotive Pulse Radar Using Signal Subspace and Presumed Ambiguity Function

Abstract

Increasing demand for target detection accuracy under complex road conditions is a challenging issue for Intelligent Transport System (ITS). Weak target signals suffer heavily from heavy noise, especially at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Therefore, effective noise reduction is crucial to enable better analysis of target signals. In pulse radar applications, the ambiguity function (AF) characterizes the time response of a filter matched to a given finite energy signal and resembles the form of a $\text{sinc}$ function for several types of transmitted signal waveforms. This paper addresses the problem of noise reduction for pulse radar with such waveforms. In particular, the pulse shape is designed in terms of the AF function. Furthermore, inspired by the fact that the signal subspace spanned by the received signals is dominated by the target echoes, a low-rank filter is developed to reduce noise for pulse echoes in the eigen-domain. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are both presented to demonstrate the improvement of SNR and detection probability.

7. Twenty-Five Years of Advances in Beamforming: From convex and nonconvex optimization to learning techniques

Abstract

Beamforming is a signal processing technique to steer, shape, and focus an electromagnetic (EM) wave using an array of sensors toward a desired direction. It has been used in many engineering applications, such as radar, sonar, acoustics, astronomy, seismology, medical imaging, and communications. With the advent of multiantenna technologies in, say, radar and communication, there has been a great interest in designing beamformers by exploiting convex or nonconvex optimization methods. Recently, machine learning (ML) is also leveraged for obtaining attractive solutions to more complex beamforming scenarios. This article captures the evolution of beamforming in the last 25 years from convex to nonconvex optimization and optimization to learning approaches. It provides a glimpse into these important signal processing algorithms for a variety of transmit–receive architectures, propagation zones, propagation paths, and multidisciplinary applications.

8. Robust Adaptive Beamforming via Worst-Case SINR Maximization With Nonconvex Uncertainty Sets

Abstract

This paper considers a formulation of the robust adaptive beamforming (RAB) problem based on worst-case signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) maximization with a nonconvex uncertainty set for the steering vectors. The uncertainty set consists of a similarity constraint and a (nonconvex) double-sided ball constraint. The worst-case SINR maximization problem is turned into a quadratic matrix inequality (QMI) problem using the strong duality of semidefinite programming. Then a linear matrix inequality (LMI) relaxation for the QMI problem is proposed, with an additional valid linear constraint. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the tightened LMI relaxation problem to have a rank-one solution are established. When the tightened LMI relaxation problem still has a high-rank solution, the LMI relaxation problem is further restricted to become a bilinear matrix inequality (BLMI) problem. We then propose an iterative algorithm to solve the BLMI problem that finds an optimal/suboptimal solution for the original RAB problem by solving the BLMI formulations. To validate our results, simulation examples are presented to demonstrate the improved array output SINR of the proposed robust beamformer.

10. Structure and properties of the CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy irradiated with a pulsed electron beam

Abstract

According to the technology of wire-arc additive manufacturing a nonequiatomic composition CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) was obtained. Deformation curves of samples in tension are plotted and analyzed after the HEA fabrication by the methods of wire-arc additive manufacturing (initial state) and after the electron-beam processing (EBP). The EBP results in a decrease in the HEA's strength and plastic properties. Along with a pit character of the fracture a presence of micropores and microlayerings are identified. A study of the HEA's fracture surface after the EBP except for regions with a ductile fracture mechanism revealed regions with a band (lamellar) structure. The area with a band structure increases with a growth in the beam electron density from 25% at 10 J/cm2to 65% at 30 J/cm2. A diameter of separation pits in fracture bands varies in the limits (0.1–0.2) μm, which is considerably less than those of the remaining part of the HEA sample. An average size of crystallization cells formed in the EBP depends on the energy density of electron beam and increases from 310 nm at 15 J/cm2to 800 nm at 30 J/cm2. A non-monotonous change in the scalar dislocation density, reaching a maximum value of ∼5.5 · 1010 cm-2 at a distance of 25 μm from the irradiation surface is revealed. It is suggested that defects being formed in surface layers in the EBP may be one of the reasons for decreasing the values of HEA strength and plasticity.

14. Molecular Dynamics Simulations Based on Polarizable Models Show that Ion Permeation Interconverts between Different Mechanisms as a Function of Membrane Thickness

Abstract

Different mechanisms have been proposed to explain the permeation of charged compounds through lipid membranes. Overall, it is expected that an ion-induced defect permeation mechanism, where substantial membrane deformations accompany ion movement, should be dominant in thin membranes but that a solubility–diffusion mechanism, where ions partition into the membrane core with large associated dehydration energy costs, becomes dominant in thicker membranes. However, while this physical picture is intuitively reasonable, capturing the interconversion between these two permeation mechanisms in molecular dynamics (MD) simulations based on atomic models is challenging. In particular, simulations relying on nonpolarizable force fields are artificially unfavorable to the solubility–diffusion mechanism, as induced polarization of the nonpolar hydrocarbon is ignored, causing overestimated free energy costs for charged molecules to enter into this region of the membrane. In this study, all-atom MD simulations based on nonpolarizable and polarizable force fields are used to quantitatively characterize the permeation process for the arginine side chain analog methyl-guanidinium through bilayer membranes of mono-unsaturated phosphatidylcholine lipids with and without cholesterol, resulting in thicknesses spanning from ∼24 to ∼42 Å. With simulations based on a nonpolarizable force field, ion translocation can take place solely through an ion-induced defect mechanism, with free energy barriers increasing linearly from 14 to 40 kcal/mol, depending on the thickness. However, with simulations based on a polarizable force field, ion translocation is predominantly dominated by an ion-induced defect mechanism in thin membranes, which progressively converts to a solubility–diffusion mechanism as the membranes get thicker. The transition between the two mechanisms occurs at a thickness of ∼29 Å, with lipid tails of 22 or more carbon atoms. This situation appears to represent the upper limit for ion-induced defect permeation within the current polarizable models. Beyond this thickness, it becomes energetically preferable for the ion to dehydrate and partition into the membrane core—a phenomenon that cannot be captured using the nonpolarizable models. Induced electronic polarizability therefore leads not just to a shift in permeation energetics but to an interconversion between two strikingly different physical mechanisms. The result highlights the importance of induced polarizability in modeling lipid membranes.

Abstract

Optically addressable spin defects in silicon carbide (SiC) are an emerging platform for quantum information processing compatible with nanofabrication processes and device control used by the semiconductor industry. System scalability towards large-scale quantum networks demands integration into nanophotonic structures with efficient spin–photon interfaces. However, degradation of the spin-optical coherence after integration in nanophotonic structures has hindered the potential of most colour centre platforms. Here, we demonstrate the implantation of silicon vacancy centres (VSi) in SiC without deterioration of their intrinsic spin-optical properties. In particular, we show nearly lifetime-limited photon emission and high spin-coherence times for single defects implanted in bulk as well as in nanophotonic waveguides created by reactive ion etching. Furthermore, we take advantage of the high spin-optical coherences of VSicentres in waveguides to demonstrate controlled operations on nearby nuclear spin qubits, which is a crucial step towards fault-tolerant quantum information distribution based on cavity quantum electrodynamics.

21. The Membrane Dipole Potential and the Roles of Interfacial Water and Lipid Hydrocarbon Chains

Abstract

Understanding membrane charge transport processes, including the actions of ion channels, pumps, carriers, and membrane-active peptides, requires a description of the electrostatics of the lipid bilayer. We have simulated a library of different lipid chemistries to reveal the impact of the headgroup, glycerol backbone, and hydrocarbon chains on the membrane dipole potential. We found a strong dependence of the potential on lipid packing, but this was not caused by the packing of lipid polar components, due to cancellation of their electric fields by electrolyte. In contrast, lipid tail contributions were determined by area per lipid, arising from two countering effects. Increased area per lipid leads to chain tilting that increases methylene dipole projections to strengthen the electric field within the bilayer, while at the same time decreasing the electric field from terminal methyl groups. Moreover, electric fields from some nonterminal groups and the terminal methyl group can extend beyond the bilayer center and be canceled by the opposing leaflet. This interleaflet field annulment explains the experimental reduction in dipole potential for unsaturated and branched lipid bilayers, by as much as ∼200 mV, as well as experiments that substitute chain carbons with sulfur. Replacing ester with ether groups (eliminating two carbonyl groups) causes a significant reduction in potential, also by ∼200 mV, in agreement with experiment. We show that the effect can be largely attributed to the loss of aligned water molecules in the glycerol backbone region, lowering the potential inside the bilayer core. When only one of the two carbonyls is removed (using a hybrid ester-ether lipid or a single-chain lipid), most of this reduction in potential was lost, with the single carbonyl group able to maintain full hydration in the interfacial region. While headgroup chemistry can have a major effect (by as much as ±100 mV relative to phosphatidylcholine), anionic headgroups either decrease or increase the dipole potential, with the variation involving perturbation in hydrogen-bonded water molecules and changes in packing of lipid tails. Overall, these results suggest that membrane electrostatics are dominated by aligned water molecules at the polar–hydrocarbon interface and, surprisingly, by the charge distribution of the nonpolar lipid tails, and not the packing of headgroup and glycerol carbonyl dipoles.

Abstract

The present paper deals with the concept of a cost-effective power-assistant wheelchair. An analysis of the market situation and recent technical achievements is done at the beginning. On its basis, a set of solutions suitable for the development of such wheelchairs has been composed. It is shown that the key features of the considered concept are: segmented electrical motor and drive, sectioned battery pack, modular charger and an ANN matrix that provides easy and intuitive interfacing of sensor networks, pseudo-bionic feedbacks and the decision-making unit. Within the scope of the paper, a 3D model has been developed and 3D modelling has been conducted. As a result, certain drawbacks in the design and placement of elements have been found and a modification of the concept has been proposed

Abstract

Human bone allografts present a better alternative to autografts in terms of minimization of the harvesting procedure complications. Prior to the use in clinical applications, they require sterilization which aims to reduce bioburden. This often comes at the expense of their biological properties as carriers of cells. In this study, we evaluated the cytocompatibility of human bone allografts processed and sterilized by three different methods with mesenchymal stromal cells. Bone morphology, biological and biochemical properties of the extracted bone-conditioned medium and viability of cells were assessed. We found that chemical sterilization had a strong negative effect on cell viability, whereas thermal sterilization and washing with subsequent ?-irradiation both resulted in a bone graft compatible with the progenitor cells. Moreover, washing of the bone prior to sterilization allowed solid removal of cell debris and other bone marrow components. Taken together, our findings demonstrate the importance of a proper choice of the bone graft processing method for the production of the biomaterial suitable for tissue engineering.

Abstract

The early macrophage response to biomaterials has been shown to be a critical and predictive determinant of downstream outcomes. When properly prepared, bioscaffolds composed of mammalian extracellular matrix (ECM) have been shown to promote a transition in macrophage behavior from a proinflammatory to a regulatory/anti-inflammatory phenotype, which in turn has been associated with constructive and functional tissue repair. The mechanism by which ECM bioscaffolds promote this phenotypic transition, however, is poorly understood. The present study shows that matrix-bound nanovesicles (MBV), a component of ECM bioscaffolds, are capable of recapitulating the macrophage activation effects of the ECM bioscaffold from which they are derived. MBV isolated from two different source tissues, porcine urinary bladder and small intestinal submucosa, were found to be enriched in miRNA125b-5p, 143-3p, and 145-5p. Inhibition of these miRNAs within macrophages was associated with a gene and protein expression profile more consistent with a proinflammatory rather than an anti-inflammatory/regulatory phenotype. MBV and their associated miRNA cargo appear to play a significant role in mediating the effects of ECM bioscaffolds on macrophage phenotype.

Abstract

AimsThe distinction between benign and malignant thyroid nodules has important therapeutic implications. Our objective was to develop an assay that could classify indeterminate thyroid nodules as benign or suspicious, using routinely prepared fine needle aspirate (FNA) cytology smears.MethodsA training set of 375 FNA smears was used to develop the microRNA-based assay, which was validated using a blinded, multicentre, retrospective cohort of 201 smears. Final diagnosis of the validation samples was determined based on corresponding surgical specimens, reviewed by the contributing institute pathologist and two independent pathologists. Validation samples were from adult patients (≥18 years) with nodule size >0.5 cm, and a final diagnosis confirmed by at least one of the two blinded, independent pathologists. The developed assay, RosettaGX Reveal, differentiates benign from malignant thyroid nodules, using quantitative RT-PCR.ResultsTest performance on the 189 samples that passed quality control: negative predictive value: 91% (95% CI 84% to 96%); sensitivity: 85% (CI 74% to 93%); specificity: 72% (CI 63% to 79%). Performance for cases in which all three reviewing pathologists were in agreement regarding the final diagnosis (n=150): negative predictive value: 99% (CI 94% to 100%); sensitivity: 98% (CI 87% to 100%); specificity: 78% (CI 69% to 85%).ConclusionsA novel assay utilising microRNA expression in cytology smears was developed. The assay distinguishes benign from malignant thyroid nodules using a single FNA stained smear, and does not require fresh tissue or special collection and shipment conditions. This assay offers a valuable tool for the preoperative classification of thyroid samples with indeterminate cytology.

Abstract

The statistical approach based on Kolmogorov's theory of metal solidification is used as the basis for a prediction of data retention time in phase change memory devices as a function of temperature of an active medium. We compared the results of theoretical simulation with the experimental results of isothermal annealing of Ge2Sb2Te5thin films with various time and temperature regimes, and good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results was found.

Abstract

Introduction:The hERG K+channel is responsible for the repolarizing cardiac current IKr. Drug block of hERG can prolong the QT interval on the surface electrocardiogram and in some cases promote deadly arrhythmias. Previous studies suggested that drugs that preferentially bind to the hERG channel’s inactivated state have higher proarrhythmic proclivities. Electrophysiology experiments and multiscale simulations also predicted that sex hormones can suppress hERG current and exacerbate drug-induced cardiotoxicity.Hypothesis:Atomistic simulations can make reliable correlations between a drug’s chemical structure and its state-dependent hERG binding affinities allowing us to distinguish safe from dangerous hERG blockers.Methods:We utilized site identification by ligand competitive saturation (SILCS), a pre-compute ensemble molecular docking technique, to predict hERG-channel binding poses and affinities of drug molecules. To improve agreement of SILCS results with experimental and molecular dynamics simulation data, we used a Bayesian machine learning protocol to optimize docking parameters.Results:We analyzed state-dependent binding of a sample set of 55 known hERG blockers and seven sex hormones to available structural models of the hERG channel. SILCS computed dissociation constants, KD, show good correlation with experimental IC50values for our open-state model (Panel A) and predict drug and hormone binding sites in agreement with previous studies (Panel B) validating the methodology.Conclusions:Our computational methodology allows us to do high-throughput screening and differentiation of open vs. inactivated-state hERG channel drug binding and can also predict how hormones may modulate a drug’s hERG blocking activity. This provides more selective criteria for differentiating cardiac safe and dangerous drugs compared to using only hERG block and QT prolongation as surrogate markers of pro-arrhythmia risk.

Abstract

We suggest method of calculation of one-dimensional temperature field in multilayer nanostructures. Our method allows obtaining non-stationary temperature distribution in the periodical and non-periodical spatial structures with a different degree of periodicity. Comparison temperature distributions in the multilayer nanostructures and equivalent continuous samples are performed in this study. In addition we suggest experimental application of our method for estimation an average value of thermal Kapitza resistance.

Abstract

We report on the measurement of the leptonic and hadronic cross sections and leptonic forward-backward asymmetries at theZ peak with the L3 detector at LEP. The total luminosity of 40.8 pb-1 collected in the years 1990, 1991 and 1992 corresponds to 1.09·106 hadronic and 0.98·105 leptonicZ decays observed. These data allow us to determine the electroweak parameters. From the cross sections we derive the properties of theZ boson: $$\begin{gathered} M_Z = 91195 \pm 9MeV\Gamma _{\rm Z} = 2494 \pm 10MeV \hfill \\ \Gamma _{had} = 1748 \pm 10MeV\Gamma _\ell = 83.49 \pm 0.46MeV \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ assuming lepton universality. We obtain an invisible width of Ginv=496.5±7.9 MeV which, in the Standard Model, corresponds to a number of light neutrino species ofNv=2.981±0.050.

Abstract

We have studied the reactionse+e-?hadrons,e+e-, µ+ µ- and t+ t-, in the energy range 88.2 " GeV. A total luminosity of 5.5 pb-1, corresponding to approximately 115000 hadronic and 10000 leptonicZ0 decays, has been recorded with the L3 detector. From a simultaneous fit to all of our measured cross section data, we obtain assuming lepton universality: $$\begin{gathered} M_z = 91.181 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.02 (LEP) GeV, \hfill \\ \Gamma _z = 2501 \pm 17 MeV, \hfill \\ \Gamma _{had} = 1742 \pm 19 MeV, \Gamma _t = 83.6 \pm 0.8 MeV. \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$

Abstract

Abstract: The formation rates of muonic molecules pdµ and ddµ have been measured by means of a high-pressure ionization chamber at various deuterium concentrations in equilibrated and non-equilibrated H/D-gas mixtures at 200 and 300 K. The measurements were performed on the muon beam of the PNPI synchrocyclotron in 1986–1991. The low pdµ formation rate and its dependence on the type of mixture was discussed in Oxford, MCF-89. In detailed analysis it was found that the ddµ formation rate in an H/D gas mixture is lower than in pure deuterium. These measurements are of special interest in connection with the experiment being prepared at PSI.

Abstract

We have studied the process e+e−→ nγ(n≥ 2) at an average center-of-mass energy of 133 GeV using the L3 detector at LEP. For an integrated luminosity of 4.95 pb−1we find one γγγγ(γ) final state with only hard photons. The rates of both γγγ and γγ events are consistent with QED expectations. The cross section of the reaction e+e−→ γγ(γ) in the polar range 16° < θγ< 164° is measured to be 22.6 ± 2.2 pb. Decays into photons of narrow scalar resonances with masses between 90 and 130 GeV are not observed. The observation of the event with four energetic photons is consistent with QED although the kinematic configuration of the photons is atypical.

Abstract

The inclusive semileptonic branching ratios b→eνX,μ νX,τ νX andνX have been measured at LEP with the L3 detector. The analysis is based on 2-jet hadronic Z decays obtained in the data collected between 1991 and 1992. Three separate event samples are analysed, containing electrons, muons and large missing energy (neutrinos), respectively. From the electron sample, we measure Br(b→eνX)=(10.89±0.20±0.51)% and, from the muon sample, Br(b→μ νX)=(10.82±0.15±0.59)%, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. From the missing energy sample, we measure Br(b→νX)=(23.08±0.77±1.24)%, assuming the relative semileptonic decay rates e:μ:τ=1:1:(0.25±0.05), according to theoretical expectations. From a combined analysis of all three samples and constraining the relative semileptonic rates, we measure Br(b→eνX)=Br(b→μ νX)=(10.68±0.11±0.46)%. Alternatively, we can remove the constraint on the relative semileptonic rates and measure Br(b→τ νX)=(1.7±0.5±1.1)%.

Abstract

In the N2-fixing symbionts of legumes (rhizobia), the evolution of (altruistic) characters that are useful for a host occurs in the populations colonizing the subscellular compartments of nodules (infection threads, symbiosomes). These compartments appear as a result of the coevolution of partners, which is associated with the complication of the trophic and regulatory interactions determining the ecological efficiency of symbiosis. Their analysis allows us to study the correlation of the mechanisms of the adaptive and progressive evolution of symbiosis, which is still unclear for free-living organisms.

Abstract

Controlling the processes, which take place during consumable-electrode shield-gas welding, is one of the main problems of the welding industry. The paper shows that under the certain conditions the electrode-metal drop and heat distribution in the weld area are influenced by the active shielding gas jet. The paper provides the results of modeling heat distribution in the weld area and active shielding gas outflow from the traditional and double-jet welding torch nozzles.
