In recent years, both businesses and academia have started to recognize sustainability as a crucial aspect of gaining a competitive advantage in the supply chain. This study aims to assess the effects of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices on textile sectors' sustainability performance. It also assesses how supply chain ambidexterity mediates the connection between SSCM, from a triple bottom line (TBL) standpoint, and firm sustainability performance outcomes. Using the resource-based view and stakeholder theories, the study employed 240 survey responses from firms operating in textile industry in Pakistan and the validity and reliability of the data were confirmed, and the hypotheses were evaluated, using PLS-SEM. The findings show that SSCM practices have a major favorable influence on Sustainability Performance (SP) and Supply Chain Ambidexterity (SCA). Furthermore, in Pakistan's textile industry, SCA acts as a mediator in the relationship between SSCM and Sustainability Performance. Through an analysis of the fundamental factors and connections that lead to the development of the intricate connection between SSCM practices from a triple bottom line viewpoint and a company's sustainability performance, this research contributes to the current literature on SSCM and SCA, especially in the context of Pakistan's textile industry, by identifying the mediation effect of SCA on SSCM and SP. The blood supply chain is a complex, integrated system, involving multiple echelons that requires optimization to obtain optimal solutions. This study develops a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model for blood supply chains with multi-echelons including donors, blood centers, and hospitals. The model also considers multiple blood products, vehicle routing, and transshipment between blood centers, with the aim of minimizing the total costs of the blood supply chain. The results of the computational model indicate that there is a significant relationship between the number of blood centers and the total cost of the blood supply chain. In addition, the volume of blood products distributed between blood centers is inversely proportional to the volume of blood products produced in each blood center. Keywords: blood product transshipment, blood supply chain, vehicle routing, 1. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study and review the current practice of waqf governance and accountability in Malaysia's State Islamic Religious Council (SIRC) in general. Waqf is becoming an increasingly important transaction practiced in most Muslim countries, and it provides benefits to the Muslim community in a variety of domains such as religion, education, medicine, and socioeconomic activities. The benefit of waqf is its long-term viability. Waqf is explored worldwide and it has become a SIRC stream discipline embedded in most organizations. The rapid development of waqf demands a good governance system to ensure the sustainability of waqf assets and benefits. However, it was found that waqf did not successfully meet the needs of the community as it should have because of issues such as mismanagement, non-uniformity in its practices, and lack of awareness by the Muslim community. The status of waqf has deteriorated to the extent that in some countries waqf assets have been neglected. In Malaysia, waqf management is under the jurisdiction of the state government and is entrusted to the SIRC. This has effects on the non-uniformity of laws and governance systems. Design/Methodology/Approach: Based on waqf practices, this study combines a qualitative research technique with an exploratory research design with content analysis and library research. It is appropriate because it entails the examination of documents, including the relevant books and empirical articles Findings: The findings from this study summarize the governance principles of both the public sector and the COSO 2013 standards are in line with Shariah governance, but the advantage of Shariah governance is dual accountability, which involves accountability to God and fellow human beings. Background: Whether Inuit in Canada experience disparities in lung cancer survival remains unknown. When requiring investigation and treatment for lung cancer, all residents of Nunavik, the Inuit homeland in Quebec, are sent to the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), in Montreal. We sought to compare survival among patients with lung cancer at the MUHC, who were residents of Nunavik and Montreal, Quebec, respectively. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study. Using lung cancer registry data, we identified Nunavik residents with histologically confirmed lung cancer diagnosed between 2005 and 2017. We aimed to match 2 Montreal residents to each Nunavik resident on sex, age, calendar year of diagnosis, and histology (non-small cell lung cancer v. small cell lung cancer). We reviewed medical records for data on additional patient characteristics and treatment, and obtained vital status from a provincial registry. We compared survival using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression. Results: We included 95 residents of Nunavik and 185 residents of Montreal. For non-small cell lung cancer, median survival times were 321 (95% confidence interval [CI] 184-626) days for Nunavik (n = 71) and 720 (95% CI 536-1208) days for Montreal residents (n = 141). For small cell lung cancer, median survival times were 190 (95% CI 159-308) days for Nunavik (n = 24) and 270 (95% CI 194-766) days for Montreal residents (n = 44). Adjusting for matching variables, stage, performance status, and comorbidity, Nunavik residents had a higher hazard of death (hazard ratio 1.68, 95% CI 1.17-2.41). Interpretation: Nunavik residents experience disparities in survival after lung cancer diagnosis. Although studies in other Inuit Nunangat regions are needed, our findings point to an urgent need to ensure that interventions aimed at improving lung cancer survival, including lung cancer screening, are accessible to Inuit Nunangat residents., Inuit in Canada have shown remarkable resilience in the face of a colonization that included systematic efforts to erase their culture and language and that sustains multiple health disparities compared [...]

Disabled children -- Methods -- Analysis -- Chronologies - Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to validate the accuracy of dental age (DA) based on the dental development of permanent teeth in children with special needs using Demirjian, Willems, and London Atlas methods and to correlate the dental and chronological age (CA) of children with special needs in Malaysia. Materials and Methods: The panoramic radiographic images belonging to children with special needs from the two teaching dental hospitals in Malaysia aged between 5 and 16 years were included in the study. The evaluation was performed by two observers using three methods (London Atlas, Demirjian, and Willems methods) to estimate the accurate DA. The outcome was determined by comparing the mean of the DA and CA. Results: A total of 52 panoramic radiographs were available for the analysis. The London Atlas and Demirjian methods overestimated the DA with a mean of 0.05 and 0.20 years, respectively, while the Willems method underestimated by 0.19 years. The London Atlas method was highly precise and accurate, while Demirjian and Willems methods were the least precise and accurate. Conclusion: The London Atlas method of DA estimation is highly accurate and valid for children with special needs in the Malaysian population, followed by the Willems and Demirjian methods. Background: The prevalence of tuberculosis infection is critical to the design of tuberculosis prevention strategies, yet is unknown in Canada. We estimated the prevalence of tuberculosis infection among Canadian residents born abroad. Methods: We estimated the prevalence of tuberculosis infection by age and year of migration to Canada for people from each of 168 countries by constructing country-specific and calendar year-specific trends for annual risk of infection using a previously developed model. We combined country-specific prevalence estimates with Canadian Census data from 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021 to estimate the overall prevalence of tuberculosis infection among foreign-born Canadian residents. Results: The estimated overall prevalence of tuberculosis infection among foreign-born people in Canada was 25% (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 20%35%) for census year 2001, 24% (95% UI 20%-33%) for 2006, 23% (95% UI 19%30%) for 2011, 22% (95% UI 19%-28%) for 2016 and 22% (95% UI 19%-27%) for 2021. The prevalence increased with age at migration and incidence of tuberculosis in the country of origin. In 2021, the estimated prevalence of infection among foreign-born residents was lowest in Quebec (19%, 95% UI 16%24%) and highest in Alberta (24%, 95% UI 21%-28%) and British Columbia (24%, 95% UI 20%-30%). Among all foreign-born Canadian residents with tuberculosis infection in 2021, we estimated that only 1 in 488 (95% UI 1851039) had become infected within the 2 preceding years. Interpretation: About 1 in 4 foreign-born Canadian residents has tuberculosis infection, but very few were infected within the 2 preceding years (the highest risk period for progression to tuberculosis disease). These data may inform future tuberculosis infection screening policies., Tuberculosis disease is the leading cause of death by a single infectious agent worldwide, surpassed only by COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021. This paper examines the impact of protectionism and intellectual property right (IPR) protection in host markets on cross-border mergers and acquisitions (CB M&As). CB M&As have become important vehicles for firms to expand into foreign markets and acquire strategic assets. In recent years, the topic has attracted significant scholarly interest. Recently, many countries have enacted protectionist measures to protect local firms and jobs. Consequently, the impact such measures have on economic activities is under debate in the literature. This study leverages the vital context of CB M&As undertaken by US multinational enterprises (MNEs) between 2011 and 2017 in 49 host countries. The findings indicate that host country IPR protection has a much more substantial and positive impact on CB M&A activities undertaken by USA MNEs than the protectionist policies of the host country by itself. The findings further suggest that, although local protectionism, by itself, does not play a significant role in CB M&As, its presence strengthens the positive efect of IPR protection on CB M&A activities in the host country, thereby supporting the contingent role of such protection. These findings have important implications for research, practice, and policy. Keywords CB M&As * Deals * IPR protection * Open market index * Protectionism * USA firms (MNEs), 1 Introduction Cross-border mergers and acquisitions (CB M&As) have attracted significant scholarly interest from strategy and international business (IB) scholars (e.g., Ahammad et al., 2018; Dikova et al., 2017; Khan [...]
