Abstract
The article offers information on the National Electricity Market (NEM) in Victoria in 2014. Topics discussed include the decline in electric consumption, the installation of small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) in NEM states, and the decline in the generation of renewable energy sources. It also mentioned the increase in wind generation sources like wind farms.
A letter to the editor is presented which comments on the March 2012 article "There's a lot of hot air about wind farms" and gives information about renewable energy sources being used in South Australia to supply electricity, noting the 2011 Draft Energy White Paper advances the debate for energy conservation.
The article reports on the release of a paper "Urban Trees: Worth More Than They Cost," by Dr. Greg Moore of the University of Melbourne in Australia in 2009. Moore approximated that at least 15% of trees that are already mature in Melbourne have suffered due to drought, with some already dead. Moore estimated that the cooling effect of 100 000 urban trees that are already mature could save a city's electricity yearly for 3 million kilowatt hours.
