Information on papers discussed at a 2006 meeting of the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research's Working Group on China is presented. Douglas Almond, Lena Edlund, Hongbin Li and Junsen Zhang presented the paper Long-Term Effects of China's Great Famine in Hong Kong and Mainland China. A paper on firm ownership and investment efficiency in China by David Dollar and Shang-jin Wei was also presented. Yi Qian presented a paper focusing on the impact of counterfeiters and imitators on pricing and marketing.

The article focuses on the display of several recent models of automobiles at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2005. European carmakers proudly showed off their sleekest and most powerful models, including the new Mercedes flagship. Hybrid cars were displayed by Japanese carmakers Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. European manufacturers have largely dismissed hybrid technology as costly and inefficient, instead focusing their efforts on developing diesel engines.
