This article presents information on the International Federation on Automatic Control Symposium on Robust Control Design that was held from June 25 to 27, 2003 in Milan, Italy. The goal of the meeting was to present a complete picture of robust control by gathering the experts in the field as well as all interested researchers from universities and industries. The program of the symposium consisted of technical session, organized in three parallel tracks, three plenary lectures, a memorial session and a panel discussion. There were 117 participants with 100 presented papers. The title of Carsten Scherer's plenary lecture was LMI Relaxation in Robust control: How to Reduce Conservatism?. Petar Kokotovic's plenary lecture was entitled Recent Nonlinear Design Methods and Their Applications. Tamer Basar's plenary lecture was entitled issues of Robustness in Network Management and Control. In addition to the technical sessions, a special evening event was held on June 26, namely, the Giorgio Quazza Memorial. As a distinguished, pioneering scientist in automatic control, and as one of the International Federation on Automatic Control leaders at that time, Giorgio's contributions were commemorated 25 years after his death with the presence of International Federation on Automatic Control president Vladimir Kucera.
