Long-term electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring is effective for epilepsy diagnosis. However, it also takes a lot of time for clinicians to correctly interpret the long-time recordings. Real-time computer-based EEG monitoring and classification systems have attracted recently the attention of researchers to help clinicians locate online possible epileptic-form EEG signals. In this paper, we first present an accurate and fast EEG classification algorithm that can recognize three types of EEG signals: normal, spike, and seizure. 16-channel bipolar EEG recordings of epilepsy patients are preprocessed, segmented, and ensemble empirical mode decomposed (EEMD) into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Features are extracted and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) is applied to train two classifiers: one is for seizure and non-seizure discrimination, and the other is for normal and spike discrimination. In order to furthermore help the clinicians, the results of LDA are visualized and sonified. The changes of the discriminant in the LDA on continuous EEG segments are backtracked to each feature, and thus to each EEG channel. Accordingly, contours of the changes in EEG channels are depicted. At the same time, sinusoidal waves in 440 or 880 Hz are played when EEG segments are classified into spike or seizure respectively. In the experiment, EEG recordings of six subjects (two normal and four seizure patients) are examined. The experiment result shows that the accuracy of the proposed epileptic EEG classification algorithm is relatively high. In addition, the visualization and sonification algorithms of epileptic-form EEG may greatly help clinicians localize the focus of seizure and nurses take care of seizure patients, immediately.

Omipalisib (GSK2126458), a potent dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitor, is reported to exhibit anti-tumor effect in several kinds of cancers. More than 50% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients display a hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling. We investigated the anti-proliferative effect of omipalisib in AML cell lines with varied genetic backgrounds. The OCI-AML3 and THP-1 cell lines had a significant response to omipalisib, with IC50values of 17.45 nM and 8.93 nM, respectively. We integrated transcriptomic profile and metabolomic analyses, and followed by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and metabolite enrichment analysis. Our findings showed that in addition to inhibiting PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling and inducing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1phase, omipalisib also suppressed mitochondrial respiration and biogenesis. Furthermore, omipalisib downregulated several genes associated with serine, glycine, threonine, and glutathione metabolism, and decreased their protein and glutathione levels. In vivo experiments revealed that omipalisib significantly inhibited tumor growth and prolonged mouse survival without weight loss. Gedatolisib and dactolisib, another two PI3K/mTOR inhibitors, exerted similar effects without affecting mitochondria biogenesis. These results highlight the multifaceted anti-leukemic effect of omipalisib, revealing its potential as a novel therapeutic agent in AML treatment.

ABSTRACTThe role of secretion chaperone-regulated virulence proteins in the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis (IE) induced by viridans streptococci such as Streptococcus mutansis unclear. In this study, we investigated the contribution of the foldase protein PrsA, a putative parvulin-type peptidyl-prolyl isomerase, to the pathogenesis of S. mutans-induced IE. We found that a prsA-deficient strain had reduced virulence in terms of formation of vegetation on damaged heart valves, as well as reduced autolysis activity, eDNA release and biofilm formation capacity. The secretion and surface exposure of AtlA in vitrowas reduced in the prsA-deficient mutant strain, and complementation of recombinant AtlA in the culture medium restored a wild type biofilm phenotype of the prsA-deficient mutant strain. This result suggests that secretion and surface localization of AtlA is regulated by PrsA during biofilm formation. Together, these results demonstrate that S. mutansPrsA could regulate AtlA-mediated eDNA release to contribute to biofilm formation in the pathogenesis of IE.

Objective Osteoarthritis (OA) progression has been shown to increase the expression of inflammatory cytokines in joints, leading to the destruction of cartilage matrix. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a potent inflammatory cytokine associated with osteoarthritic synovial fluid. The protective effects of polysaccharides from Enteromorpha prolifera against acute hepatic injury was reported.Design In this study, we examined the effects of Enteromorpha polysaccharide extracts (EPEs) in the treatment of OA. The effects of the EPEs were assessed using an IL-1β-stimulated SW1353 and SW982 cells. The expression levels of specific mRNA and proteins were evaluated using semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (sqRT-PCR) and western immunoblotting. An OA animal study involving C57BL/6J mice was also conducted to assess the effects on tactile sensitivity and anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT).Results Acidic polysaccharide extract (APE) was shown to significantly reduce cytokine and chemokine mRNA levels in IL-1β-stimulated SW1353 and SW982 cells and attenuate the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and p38/AP-1 in SW1353 cells. APE was also shown to minimize the effect of osteolytic lesions in the knee joints of ACLT-induced osteoarthritic mice.Conclusions APE is a potent inhibitor of joint degeneration associated with OA.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play important roles in sepsis and deep-seated infections, but whether NET formation correlates with clinical outcomes of patients with streptococcal bloodstream infections (BSIs) is unclear.

Endomucin (EMCN) currently represents the only hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) marker expressed by both murine and human HSCs. Here, we report that EMCN+long-term repopulating HSCs (LT-HSCs; CD150+CD48−LSK) have a higher long-term multi-lineage repopulating capacity compared to EMCN−LT-HSCs. Cell cycle analyses and transcriptional profiling demonstrated that EMCN+LT-HSCs were more quiescent compared to EMCN−LT-HSCs. Emcn−/−and Emcn+/+mice displayed comparable steady-state hematopoiesis, as well as frequencies, transcriptional programs, and long-term multi-lineage repopulating capacity of their LT-HSCs. Complementary functional analyses further revealed increased cell cycle entry upon treatment with 5-fluorouracil and reduced granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF) mobilization of Emcn−/−LT-HSCs, demonstrating that EMCN expression by LT-HSCs associates with quiescence in response to hematopoietic stress and is indispensable for effective LT-HSC mobilization. Transplantation of wild-type bone marrow cells into Emcn−/−or Emcn+/+recipients demonstrated that EMCN is essential for endothelial cell-dependent maintenance/self-renewal of the LT-HSC pool and sustained blood cell production post-transplant.

The ability to give higher priority to Region-of-Interest(ROI) is the emerging functionality for nowadays video coding. A simple and fast method for face detection is proposed to dynamically define ROI in real time application. We use the color information Cr and RGB variance to determine the skin-color pixels. Because the two color spaces are commonly used in most hardware and video codec standards, there is no extra computation overhead required for conversion. The low-pass filtering is applied to background to reduce used bits. For video coding system, a region-based video codec based on H.263+ with the option mode of modified quantization is set up. We adjust the distortion weight parameter and variance at macroblock layer to control the qualities at different regions. From the experimental results, the proposed methods can significantly improve quality at ROI. Our methods are suitable for real time videoconferencing. AbstractWe investigated how the lack of usual winter and spring monsoons, effectively representing consecutive drought events, affected the dynamics of ecosystem metabolism in a shallow mesotrophic seepage lake in northeastern Taiwan. An instrumented buoy provided high-frequency free-water dissolved oxygen measurements, water temperature profiles, and meteorological data, which we used to estimate daily values of gross primary production (GPP), ecosystem respiration (R), and net ecosystem production (NEP). Results revealed that the disappearance of monsoons decreased lake level and volume, concentrated dissolved nutrients, stimulated the development of algal biomass, promoted stratification, and resulted in a major shift in lake metabolism. Offshore GPP and R were both initially stimulated but then decreased due to shallower mixing depths in the water column. The lake rapidly shifted from a heterotrophic state to a highly autotrophic status when the water level dropped to the lowest level. A return to autotrophy was caused by a greater decline in R than an increase in GPP. This study demonstrates the dramatic effect that drought events can have on lake ecosystem function and suggests that nutrient control may be important in mitigating the effects of a predicted warmer and drier climate and increased water withdrawal in this region.

Multiclass classification methods that combine a genetic algorithm with support vector machine have been shown to have superior performance in digital biomedical data analyses. However, they usually require a lot of computing resources. Cloud computing has recently played a more important role in this area, as it provides large computing power, storage space, and network bandwidth. The present study proposes a high-performance multiclass classification framework that adopts cloud computing technology to speed up analysis and enhance performance. The MapReduce parallel programming paradigm supported in the Apache Hadoop environment is adopted. A benchmark mRNA dataset of 14 tumor types was used to evaluate the classification framework. Accurate tumor classification based on gene expression profiles (GEP) has great promise for early diagnosis and clinical prognosis of cancers. However, GEP samples are usually very highly dimensional and statistically differentially expressed genes are not always tumor-related. In the experiment, when the number of servers increased from 1 to 10, the training time of the classifier was significantly reduced from 22.06 to 2.33 days. The classification accuracy reached to 94 %, a significant improvement over previous studies (78 and 90 %). Among 16,063 expressed genes, several cancer-related genes were identified after further investigation was made. The experimental results demonstrate the great effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed framework in terms of multiclass biomedical data classification.

Transparent display is one of the main technologies in next-generation displays, especially for augmented reality applications. An aperture structure is attached on each display pixel to partition them into transparent and black regions. However, diffraction blurs caused by the aperture structure typically degrade the transparent image when the light from a background object passes through finite aperture window. In this paper, the diffraction effect of an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display (AMOLED) is studied. Several aperture structures have been proposed and implemented. Based on theoretical analysis and simulation, the appropriate aperture structure will effectively reduce the blur. The analysis data are also consistent with the experimental results. Compared with the various transparent aperture structure on AMOLED, diffraction width (zero energy position of diffraction pattern) of the optimize aperture structure can be reduced 63% and 31% in the x and y directions in CASE 3. Associated with a lenticular lens on the aperture structure, the improvement could reach to 77% and 54% of diffraction width in the x and y directions. Modulation transfer function and practical images are provided to evaluate the improvement of image blurs.

ABSTRACTThe mechanisms that underlie valvular inflammation in streptococcus-induced infective endocarditis (IE) remain unclear. We previously demonstrated that streptococcal glucosyltransferases (GTFs) can activate human heart valvular interstitial cells (VIC) to secrete interleukin-6 (IL-6), a cytokine involved in T helper 17 (Th17) cell differentiation. Here, we tested the hypothesis that activated VIC can enhance neutrophil infiltration through sustained IL-17 production, leading to valvular damage. To monitor cytokine and chemokine production, leukocyte recruitment, and the induction or expansion of CD4+CD45RA−CD25−CCR6+Th17 cells, primary human VIC were cultured in vitroand activated by GTFs. Serum cytokine levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and neutrophils and Th17 cells were detected by immunohistochemistry in infected valves from patients with IE. The expression of IL-21, IL-23, IL-17, and retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor C (Rorc) was upregulated in GTF-activated VIC, which may enhance the proliferation of memory Th17 cells in an IL-6-dependent manner. Many chemokines, including chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1), were upregulated in GTF-activated VIC, which might recruit neutrophils and CD4+T cells. Moreover, CXCL1 production in VIC was induced in a dose-dependent manner by IL-17 to enhance neutrophil chemotaxis. CXCL1-expressing VIC and infiltrating neutrophils could be detected in infected valves, and serum concentrations of IL-17, IL-21, and IL-23 were increased in patients with IE compared to healthy donors. Furthermore, elevated serum IL-21 levels have been significantly associated with severe valvular damage, including rupture of chordae tendineae, in IE patients. Our findings suggest that VIC are activated by bacterial modulins to recruit neutrophils and that such activities might be further enhanced by the production of Th17-associated cytokines. Together, these factors can amplify the release of neutrophilic contents in situ, which might lead to severe valvular damage.

Different levels of visual fatigue in the human eye depend on different color-formation methods and image quality. This paper uses the high-frequency component of the spectral power of accommodative microfluctuations as a major objective indicator for analyzing the effects of visual fatigue based on various displays, such as color-formation displays and 3D displays. Also, a questionnaire is used as a subjective indicator. The results are that 3D videos cause greater visual fatigue than 2D videos (p<0.001), the shutter-type 3D display causes visual fatigue more than the polarized type (p=0.012), the display of the time-sharing method causes greater visual fatigue than the spatial-formation method (p=0.008), and there is no significance between various light source modules of displays (p=0.162). In general, people with normal color discrimination have more visual fatigue than those with good color discrimination (p<0.001). Therefore, this paper uses the high-frequency component of accommodative microfluctuations to evaluate the physiological stress or strain by overexerting the visual system, and can compare the level of visual fatigue between various displays.

Diabetes is a familiar disease in modern society. In the early stage of diabetes, symptoms are unobvious, but they usually induce diabetic autonomic neuropathy or, worse, cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. Pupillometers are effective instruments for observing human pupils. This article presents a novel wearable pupillometer design, without external light artifacts, and an embedded algorithm with blinking elimination, which investigates autonomic neuropathy through recording pupil dynamics triggered by an external sensitive invisible light source. The pupillometer is experimented on 36 healthy subjects and 10 diabetic patients under four different colors (white, red, green, and blue) as well as two different light intensities: 50 and 500 mcd. Ten parameters derived from pupil diameter, pupil response time, and pupil response speed will be evaluated for the healthy subjects and diabetic patients. The results show that three in four parameters related to pupil diameters, one in four related to light intensities, and one in two related to pupil response speed could have significant differences (p<0.05) between healthy subjects and diabetic patients. These parameters obtain over 85% sensitivity, 83% specificity, and 88% accuracy. The pupillometer is proven reliable, effective, portable, and inexpensive for diagnosing diabetes in an early stage.

With a Gaussian-like broadband light source from high brightness Ce^3+:YAG single-clad crystal fiber, a full-field optical coherence tomography using a home-designed Mirau objective realized high quality images of in vivo and excised skin tissues. With a 40 × silicone-oil-immersion Mirau objective, the achieved spatial resolutions in axial and lateral directions were 0.9 and 0.51 μm, respectively. Such a high spatial resolution enables the separation of lamellar structure of the full epidermis in both the cross-sectional and en face planes. The number of layers of stratum corneum and its thickness were quantitatively measured. This label free and non-invasive optical probe could be useful for evaluating the water barrier of skin tissue in clinics. As a preliminary in vivo experiment, the blood vessel in dermis was also observed, and the flowing of the red blood cells and location of the melanocyte were traced.

We report what we believe to be the first demonstration of a facile approach with controlled geometry for the production of crystal-core ceramic-clad hybrid fibers for scaling fiber devices to high average powers. The process consists of dip coating a solution of polycrystalline alumina onto a high-crystallinity 40-μm-diameter Ti:sapphire single-crystalline core followed by thermal treatments. Comparison of the measured refractive index with high-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveals that a Ca/Si-rich intragranular layer is precipitated at grain boundaries by impurity segregation and liquid-phase formation due to the relief of misfit strain energy in the Al2O3matrix, slightly perturbing the refractive index and hence the optical properties. Additionally, electron backscatter diffractions supply further evidence that the Ti:sapphire single-crystalline core provides the template for growth into a sacrificial polycrystalline cladding, bringing the core and cladding into a direct bond. The thus-prepared doped crystal core with the undoped crystal cladding was achieved through the abnormal grain-growth process. The presented results provide a general guideline both for controlling crystal growth and for the performance of hybrid materials and provides insights into how one might design single-mode high-power crystal fiber devices.

Single-crystal n-type GaN nanowires have been grown epitaxially on a Mg-doped p-type GaN substrate. Piezoelectric nanognerators based on GaN nanowires are investigated by conductive AFM, and the results showed an output power density of nearly 12.5 mW/m2. Luminous LED modules based on n-GaN nanowires/p-GaN substrate have been fabricated. CCD images of the lighted LED and the corresponding electroluminescence spectra are recorded at a forward bias. Moreover, the GaN nanowire LED can be lighted up by the power provided by a ZnO nanowire based nanogenerator, demonstrating a self-powered LED using wurtzite-structured nanomaterials.

We characterize the transport properties of [11-20] GaN/Ga2O3nanowire (NW)-MOSFET epitaxially grown on (0001) sapphire substrates. When passivated with 10nm-thick Ga2O3on the {1-10-1 }GaNtriangular facets, the 50 nm-dia. Ga2O3/GaN NW-MOSFET with 50nm gate length exhibits a saturation current of 130 A, transconductance of 64 S, current on/off ratio of 104, subthreshold swing of 100mV/dec, and unity current (power) gain bandwidth fT(fMAX) at 150 (180)GHz. Using a 3D diffusion and drift model analysis, we found that the short channel effect in a Lg=50nm Ga2O3/GaN NW-MOSFET at an aspect ratio of 5 was suppressed due to contribution from polarization-induced negative space charge of -2.8×1012cm2at the abrupt crystalline interface between GaN NW and sapphire. The superior DC transport properties and good RF response can be ascribed the to polarization-induced 2D electron gas (2DEG) density of 7× 1012cm2with mobility of 1000cm2/V-sec confined at the semi-polar {1-10-1} GaN/Ga2O3interfaces.

This paper describes the development of an iterative heuristic algorithm utilizing graph coloring theory and cost minimization strategy to solve the vehicle routing problem with soft time windows (VRPSTWs) for a reverse logistic. The purpose of the proposed algorithm is to improve the computational eff iciency and fi nd the routing combinations graphically by applying the vertex coloring technique. Linkage among vertices was performed iteratively, taking the model's constraints into consideration. A Taiwanese waste collection network was utilized to demonstrate the implementation of the algorithm. Computational results revealed that the algorithm was eff icient and effective

This paper is researching about the illumination system in ring field capsule endoscope. It is difficult to obtain the uniform illumination on the observed object because the light intensity of LED will be changed along its angular displacement and same as luminous intensity distribution curve. So we use the optical design software which is Advanced Systems Analysis Program (ASAP) to build a photometric model for the optimal design of LED illumination system in ring field capsule endoscope. In this paper, the optimal design of illumination uniformity in the ring field capsule endoscope is from origin 0.128 up to optimum 0.603 and it would advance the image quality of ring field capsule endoscope greatly.

The optimal Packet Length Adaptation (PLA) for throughput and energy utilisation in wireless networks with and without re-transmission is respectively derived and developed. A noise referred distance model of wireless channels is developed for accurate estimation of the dissipated proportion in the residual energy. To balance the load, the Energy-Proportional Routing (EPR) determines whether a cluster head or a node should either undertake forwarding tasks or transmit data to intermediate hops. The cooperation of PLA with the EPR algorithm effectively extends lifetime while throughput and energy utilisation are maximised even the distribution of channel noise is so unpredictable.

Blastic natural killer (NK)-cell lymphoma is a clinically aggressive hemato-logic neoplasm with a high incidence of cutaneous involvement. We report a 19-year-old man who presented with asymptomatic, erythematous, infiltrated bean plaques and nodules of various sizes, scattered over the face, trunk and extremities. A skin biopsy specimen revealed diffuse dermal infiltration of medium-sized pleomorphic cells with a blastic appearance. Immunohistochemical studies showed that the tumor cells were positive for CD56, CD43, CD123, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl trans-ferase (TdT). The neoplastic cells were negative for B-cell, T-cell, and myeloid cell markers. In situhybridization for Epstein-Barr virus encoded RNA (EBER) gave a negative result. Flow cytometric analysis of bone marrow aspirate demonstrated a CD56 positive population of blastic cells. A diagnosis of blastic NK-cell lymphoma was made and the skin lesions regressed after treatment with L-asparaginase-based chemotherapy (L-asparaginase, cyclophosphamide, etoposide). The skin lesions regressed after two sessions of chemotherapy.

Most of the recent medical imaging modalities use noninvasive means to obtain the activity information inside human organs, so doctors may detect the initial symptoms of a disease as early as possible and give appropriate treatment. PET is to use radio-isotopes which can emit positrons in its clinical and research uses. By injecting the nuclear medicine drug formed by labeling a radioelement to molecules of deoxidized glucose to a patient and after the cells in the patient body absorbing it through metabolic functions, the detectors will receive annihilation coincidence events formed from the number of the positrons generated from the response of the labeled deoxidized glucose molecules. The most critical module of the modality therefore is the procedure regarding how to reconstruct good quality images using the collected projection information.However, in the reconstruction process, MLEM involves massive data in considerable number of iterations in order to yield accurate images and takes quite a long time in computation. Ordered Subsets Expectation Maximization (OSEM) was proposed to accelerate the reconstruction process by expediting the convergence while maintaining the same image quality as those produced by MLEM. Since then, OSEM iterative algorithm has become the de factoreconstruction method adopted by most PET installations. To further improve the image quality, both clinical and research data have been acquired in 3D mode on the majority of the current systems. The accompanied computational load of iterative reconstruction increases considerably resulting from the 3D OSEM method.Attributed to the fact of the recent technological advancement, many high-performance parallel methods have been proposed to speed up the reconstruction process. These methods in general are to partition data into several sets before applying any parallel acceleration. They do not take on the nature of OSEM method to identify the intrinsic data dependencies. This project intends to analyze the iterative natures of the 3D OSEM method, particularly the intra- and inter-iteration aspects of the reconstruction method along with the latest shared-memory parallel machine architecture. Experiments will be conducted to demonstrate its superior performance over the existing methods.

The quality of traditional two-dimensional image reconstruction for PET has been efficiently improved by three-dimensional image reconstruction, but the sensitivity of the data and the quality of the image are restricted by the limit of modality physics. In analytical image reconstruction algorithm, 3DRP method compensates the unmeasured events by forward projection based on the initial direct image estimate. However, the original 3DRP method merely depends on the parallel projections without taking into account the oblique projections. In our proposed 3DRP-SSRB method, we improve the first image estimate by incorporating the rebinned oblique data. SSRB method was used to perform the rebinning operation to make uses of the oblique projection data to improve the sensitivity information. And then project the improved image estimate forward and reconstruct the final image. Conflicting parameters of reconstructed image quality of 3DRP are experimented by simulated three-dimensional phantom study with regard to both system sensitivity and image quality factors. PET simulation software package was used to conduct the experiment along with the MATLAB software to evaluate the effectiveness of two-dimensional FBP, 3DRP, and our proposed 3DRP-SSRB methods. The result demonstrated its better image quality by having better mean squared error numbers in most of output image slices.

A biologically based risk‐assessment model of arsenic (As) exposure evaluated farmed tilapia (Orechromis mossambicus) and human health during tilapia consumption in an area of southwestern Taiwan where blackfoot disease (BFD) occurs. The risk assessment addressed exposures to city residents who lived in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, as well as subsistence fishers living in the BFD area who consumed tilapia. The models implemented included a physiologically based toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic (PBTK/TD) model to account for As exposure and dose‐response profiles in tilapia and a human health exposure/risk model that accounts for target lifetime risk (TR) and hazard quotient (HQ) for humans consuming farmed tilapia. Results demonstrated that 90th percentiles of TR ranged from 1.53 × 10−8to 1.62 × 10−6for city residents with farmed tilapia consumption rates of 0.41 to 1.37 g/d. The 90th percentiles ranged from 2.07 ×10−6to 7.89 ×10−5for subsistence fishers in the BFD area with farmed tilapia consumption rates of 16.80 to 59.15 g/d. All predicted 90th percentiles of HQ were less than 1 for city residents and subsistence fishers in the BFD area, indicating small contributions from farmed tilapia consumption. Critical variables included whole‐fish body weight, water As content, and As level in tilapia muscle. Although bioaccumulation of As seems unlikely to result in toxicity to farmed tilapia and humans consuming tilapia, the theoretical human health risks in the BFD area are alarming, using a probabilistic risk‐assessment model based on conservative assumptions.

Positron emission tomography (PET) images can be used to judge whether or not a person's bodily tissue is showing abnormal metabolism, providing a tool for early diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. Contemporary PET scanners have retracted their septa in order to increase the collected coincidental events. Thus, the protocol either needs to undergo three-dimensional image reconstruction, or use rebinning formulas to perform the less expensive two-dimensional image reconstruction for final images. Reconstruction using the second method saves image reconstruction time. The main goal of the paper is to further improve the performance by overlapping the rebinning and two-dimensional reconstruction operations, so as to early start in reconstruction, and to be able to undergo image reconstruction based on the pipelined direct sinograms. Frequency distance relations are analyzed in detail to generate the Fourier transformed sinograms in order for subsequent pipelined stages of reconstruction. The two-dimensional reconstruction operation does not have to wait until the completion of all sinogram generations, therefore it can hide most of the time spent in rebinning operations. The associated parameters can be pre-calculated indiscriminately beforehand for best performance.

A hydrophilic matrix of periodate‐oxidized dextran was used as a double‐sided linker to covalently immobilize Staphylococcus aureusprotein A (SpA) molecules onto a poly‐L‐lysine‐modified piezoelectric crystal surface to improve their stability, activity, and binding specificity with human immunoglobulin G (IgG) in flow injection assays. The prepared sensing crystals displayed best sensitivity and reusability at a flow rate of 140 μL/min. A human IgG concentration as low as 0.3 nM can be detected by this system. Up to 19 successive assay repetitions were achieved without significant loss of sensitivity using the same crystal. The analysis of adsorption kinetics indicates that such a preparation can greatly increase the amount of available active human IgG binding sites on immobilized SpA. Hardly any response arising from unspecific binding was detected. In addition, the sensing crystal prepared by this method was found to retain activity better than one prepared via direct deposition when stored in either wet or dry states. Finally, the prepared SpA‐coated crystals were applied to the affinity immobilization of polyclonal goat anti‐Schistosomajaponicumglutathione‐S‐transferase (GST) and were able to subsequently detect GST and its genetically engineered mutant either in a purified form or in the crude cell lysate.

Thermal stratification is a critical physical process controlling carbon (C) flux from lakes into the atmosphere. In general, vertical water temperature profiles in shallow subtropical lakes can vary significantly because typhoons frequently induce vertical mixing across the entire lake due to strong winds and rapid flushing from river inputs. Since C fluxes are driven by dissolved inorganic C (DIC), it is necessary to understand stratification's influence on DIC dynamics in shallow subtropical lakes. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the impact of stratification on DIC in Yuan‐Yang Lake, a typical shallow subtropical mountain lake, by developing a net ecosystem production (NEP) model. We measured the vertical profile of water temperature and DIC once or twice a month from July 2004 to December 2017. We applied a three‐dimensional hydrological model to estimate residence time and NEP, which revealed that large amounts of DIC are stored in the lower layer from spring to summer due to the suppression of vertical mixing by stratification. In autumn and winter, the lake was well mixed, and DIC was evenly distributed in the water column due to vertical mixing. This was confirmed by vertical DIC profiles. Vertical distribution of dissolved inorganic C (DIC) is one of the most important factors for understanding C emission from lakes. Thermal stratification is expected to be the critical physical process controlling the vertical distribution of DIC. To clarify the relationship between DIC and thermal stratification, we investigated vertical profiles of DIC and the strength of stratification in a subtropical shallow lake (Yuan‐Yang Lake [YYL]) using field observations from 2004 to 2017. Our study is the first to apply a three‐dimensional hydrological model to clarify the mechanism controlling the vertical profile of DIC as part of an estimate of net ecosystem production in a lake. We reported transport characterization on [11-20] GaN single nanowire (SNW)-MOSFET laterally- and directionally- grown on c-plane sapphire substrates. The 60nm-dia. Ga2O3/GaN SNW-MOSFET of 50 nm gate length was shown to exhibit a high saturation current of 130μA, transconductance of 64μS, and unity current gain bandwidth fT at 150GHz. From a 3D diffusion and drift model analysis, it is shown that a polarization induced 2D electron gas (2DEG) density of 7×10^12 /cm2 with mobility of 1000cm2/V-sec confined at the interface of semi-polar {1-10-1} GaN/Ga2O3 was responsible for the high-speed transport characteristics.

This article mainly focuses on image processing of radial imaging capsule endoscope (RICE). First, it used the radial imaging capsule endoscope (RICE) to take the images, the experimental used a piggy to get the intestines and captured the images, but the images captured by RICE were blurred due to the RICE has aberration problems in the image center and lower light uniformity affect the image quality. To solve the problems, image processing can use to improve it. Therefore, the images captured by different time can use Person correlation coefficient algorithm to connect all the images, and using the color temperature mapping way to improve the discontinuous problem in the connection region.

We reported on the enhanced carrier transportation in gallium nitride (GaN) single nanowire field-effect transistor (FET) with top gate structure. The GaN nanowires were synthesized by a selective-site growth mechanism using vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) method on a silicon-dioxide (SiO2) capped p-type silicon substrate. The GaN nanowires were characterized with a length of 20000nm and ~80nm diameter as observed by scanning electron microscope. Data from the electrical characterization revealed a twenty-fold increase of the saturation current on the SiO2 passivated GaN single nanowire FETs compared the ones without SiO2 layer. We ascribed this observation to the suppression of the surface states density of GaN nanowires by the oxide layer.

Collagen shrinkage associated with denaturation from thermal treatment has a number of important clinical applications. However, individualized treatment is hindered by the lack of reliable noninvasive methods to monitor the process of collagen denaturation. We investigate the serial changes of collagen denaturation from thermal treatment of rat tail tendons at 58 °C by use of second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy. We find that rat tail tendon shrinks progressively from 0 to 9 min of thermal treatment, and remains unchanged in length upon further thermal treatment. The SHG intensity also decreases from 0 to 9 min of thermal treatment and becomes barely detectable from further thermal treatment. Collagen shrinkage and the SHG intensity are well correlated in a linear model. In addition, SHG imaging reveals a tiger-tail-like pattern of collagen denaturation. The bands of denatured collagen progressively widen from increased thermal treatment and completely replace the adjacent bands of normal collagen after 9 min of thermal treatment. Our results show that collagen denaturation in rat tail tendon from thermal treatment is inhomogeneous, and that SHG intensity can be used to predict the degree of thermally induced collagen shrinkage. With additional development, this approach has the potential to be used in biomedical applications.
