Abstract
A recent report discusses research conducted at the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar on the topic of cesarean section (C-section) deliveries in urban settings in Dakar, Senegal. The study aimed to assess C-section rates and examine socioeconomic inequalities in C-section use between 2005 and 2019. The research found that despite the implementation of a policy of free C-sections in Senegal since 2005, access to C-sections remained low and significant disparities existed, particularly in major cities like Dakar. The study emphasized the need for public health policies that go beyond providing free C-section services and instead focus on improving equitable access for all socioeconomic groups, especially women in urban slums.
