The importance of speaking in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is evidenced by the number of studies that refer to it across communicative competence. However, those which include activities to promote this skill in the classroom are very scarce, which hinders the teachers’ job, as they have limited time to think of as many activities as they are required to do. This problem is aggravated by the introduction of new technologies, which are conceived to facilitate the work of teachers as long as they know how to use them. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to design a series of multilevel activities to put students’ oral production into practice through a series of web resources, and at the same time, to raise awareness of the importance of sharing our materials with other teachers. The activities presented here are intended to assist teachers of any level and stage who wish to take a step forward in the improvement of their students’ speaking skill., La importancia de la producción oral en la enseñanza del Inglés como Lengua Extranjera (ILE) es evidente debido a la cantidad de estudios que hacen alusión a ella a través de la competencia comunicativa. Sin embargo, aquellos que incluyen actividades para fomentar esta habilidad en el aula son muy escasos, lo cual dificulta la labor de los docentes, quienes disponen de poco tiempo para pensar en tal cantidad de actividades como se les exige. A esta problemática se le suma el uso de las nuevas tecnologías, las cuales están pensadas para facilitar la labor al docente, siempre y cuando este sepa cómo utilizar dichos recursos. Por ello, el objetivo del presente trabajo es diseñar una serie de actividades multinivel para, a través de unos recursos web, poner en práctica la producción oral de los estudiantes, a la vez que se pretende crear consciencia de la importancia de compartir nuestras actividades con otros docentes. This research study sought to determine the use patterns of Electronic Resources and limited to the College of Agriculture, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar (Uttarakhand). A questionnaire was distributed among the Post Graduate students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members of the various post-graduate departments of the college to collect desired data. 120 valid samples were collected and used for data analysis and interpretation in this present study. The result shows a growing interest among the respondents to the use of E-Resource at College of Agriculture, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar (Uttarakhand). It was found that E-resources of Elsevier Publisher with 77.5% was the most used and useful publisher for the agricultural community. Majority 59.17% of the respondents used online databases 2-4 times in a week. Awareness among the users about the availability of online journals was found highly satisfactory. Electronic Resources were mostly used for studying course work and writing research papers. PDF format of E-Resources was the most preferred format. There are many reasons highlighted by the users that promote the use of E-Resources.

The genes encoding the different GPCR (sub)types determine their specific functionality, which can be altered by natural genetic variants and isoforms. Deciphering the molecular link between sequence diversity and its functional consequences is a current challenge and critical for the comprehension of the physiological response of GPCRs. It requires a global understanding of how protein sequence translates into protein structure, how this impacts the structural motions of the protein, and, finally, how all these factors determine the receptor functionality. Here, we discuss available resources and state-of-the-art computational approaches to address this question.

In the early years, maritime education had been mainly focused on the vocational training of deck officers on board. However, as the maritime business evolved, a change in the maritime education curriculum started to be necessary. To align maritime programmes with the needs of maritime stakeholders, maritime studies became an interdisciplinary academic field. Today, MET institutions juggle to comply with the Standard Training and Certificate Watch keeping (STCW) Convention and Code. However, it is also important to ensure that core subjects do not fade out under the integration of these new courses. As the emphasis on creating dedicated knowledge arises, students should be encouraged to participate on the researches conducted by their own centres through new participatory forms of web-based communication. This project has its origins in the research carried out by the Nautical Science and Engineering Department (DCEN) of the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies for the optimization of routes in the western Mediterranean. Through the analysis of the weather conditions in the western Mediterranean sailing area and, in particular, the most common adverse weather conditions in the area, a study of the impact of these weather conditions is carried on in the context of sea route optimization and their importance for short-haul transport. The results of the study are presented in participatory web format for dissemination and use as a didactic tool by the students; the routes studied will also be used as practical examples to explain the contents of the course in a clear and concise way. The article gives a general survey about medical libraries in Ukraine and their targets. There are 700 medical libraries in Ukraine, 19 of those are scientific university libraries. Among their current tasks are content analysis of web resources of the medical university libraries, which were executed in 2016. Holding analysis and other projects of the medical university libraries of Kiev, Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv were also presented. All medical libraries are member of the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA)., Der Artikel bietet einen Überblick über die medizinische Bibliothekslandschaft der Ukraine und berichtet über die Arbeit der ukrainischen medizinischen Universitätsbibliotheken. In der Ukraine gibt es 700 medizinische Bibliotheken, davon 19 wissenschaftliche medizinische Universitätsbibliotheken. Zu den aktuellen Aufgaben zählen unter anderem Content-Analysen von Web-Ressourcen der medizinischen Universitätsbibliotheken, die 2016 durchgeführt wurden. Ebenfalls vorgestellt werden Bestandsanalysen, Projektteilnahmen und andere Tätigkeiten der medizinischen Unibibliotheken in Kiew, Odessa, Lwiw und Charkiw. Alle medizinischen Bibliotheken sind Teil des Ukrainischen Bibliotheksverbandes (ULA).

The article deals with the conceptual basis of designing the information and communication environment (ICE) for managing the regional system of education. The scope of the study is to clarify the implementation technology for development of the ICE model in order to improve management efficiency and to provide the education services of a high quality. Research objectives: creation of the theoretical and methodological principles for practical development of the ICE for managing the regional system of education. The object of study: the process of informatization of the regional system of education. The subject of the study: the ICE for managing the regional system of education. Methods: observation, analysis and modeling. Research results. Building the ICE for managing the regional system of education allows improving the education management; provides a positive impact on the professional development of teachers and students’ desire to learn. Key findings and recommendations: 1) The usage of structurally and functionally interconnected informational and technological components in the ICE with a single management center contributes to its development and effective operation. 2) The ICE of the region contributes to intensification and efficiency of the educational process that allows moving from the traditional education system with mechanical learning a certain amount of knowledge by pupils to the ability to acquire the knowledge independently and not to lose the interest in learning.

El resultado de esta publicación es la base inicial para proponer un marco de referencia a nivel arquitectónico para la integración de servicios e-learning de terceros a la plataforma en estudio, siendo este el objetivo general del proyecto, el cual será publicado en una próxima convocatoria de esta revista., This paper gathers the findings of a detailed study on different technologies used to integrate web re­sources, such as electronic learning services pro­vided by third parties, into a platform belonging to learning management system .LRN (at Univer­sidad del Cauca). The purpose of this article is to study users’ perspective regarding the importance of library orientation/training programmes for the people with disabilities in the leading academic and special National Capital Region (NCR) libraries of India. Survey methodology has been used as the basic research tool for data collection with the help of Likert-type questionnaires. The total 375 users surveyed in all the 15 libraries are selected randomly on the basis of willingness of the users to participate in the survey with the experience of working in digital environment. The survey results were tabulated and analyzed with descriptive statistics methods using Excel software and ‘Stata version 11’. The help of ‘Sign Language Interpreters’ was taken to communicate with the deaf/hearing impaired users. The Library orientation/training programmes are found ‘Essential’ for the people with disabilities. Majority of users in all the libraries are not found aware of any orientation programme organized at their institution/library which depicts lack of ‘User Awareness Programmes’ in the National Capital Region Libraries. The people with disabilities are found aware of latest technologies and rely on training to utilize its benefits. This study is the first to explore the users’ perspective regarding library orientation/training programmes for the people with disabilities in NCR libraries of India. The findings will assist the libraries to review their training policies to improve the service quality for the users.

One key feature of the Semantic Web lies in the ability to link related Web resources. However, while relations within particular datasets are often well-defined, links between disparate datasets and corpora of Web resources are rare. The increasingly widespread use of cross-domain reference datasets, such as Freebase and DBpedia for annotating and enriching datasets as well as documents, opens up opportunities to exploit their inherent semantic relationships to align disparate Web resources. In this paper, we present a combined approach to uncover relationships between disparate entities which exploits (a) graph analysis of reference datasets together with (b) entity co-occurrence on the Web with the help of search engines. In (a), we introduce a novel approach adopted and applied from social network theory to measure the connectivity between given entities in reference datasets. The connectivity measures are used to identify connected Web resources. Finally, we present a thorough evaluation of our approach using a publicly available dataset and introduce a comparison with established measures in the field. Programming Internet of Things (IoT) applications is challenging because developers have to be knowledgeable in various technical domains, from low-power networking, over embedded operating systems, to distributed algorithms. Hence, it will be challenging to find enough experts to provide software for the vast number of expected devices, which must also be scalable and particularly safe due to the connection to the physical world. To remedy this situation, we propose an architecture that provides Web-like scripting for low-end devices through Cloud-based application servers and a consistent, RESTful programming model. Our novel runtime container Actinium (Ac) exposes scripts, their configuration, and their lifecycle management through a fully RESTful programming interface using the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). We endow the JavaScript language with an API for direct interaction with mote-class IoT devices, the CoapRequest object, and means to export script data as Web resources. With Actinium, applications can be created by simply mashing up resources provided by CoAP servers on devices, other scripts, and classic Web services. We also discuss security considerations and show the suitability of this architecture in terms of performance with our publicly available implementation., Promos, CONET

Sin embargo, éstos deben poseer las competencias informacionales necesarias para buscar, evaluar y usar la información de forma correcta y eficiente, sobre todo en cuanto al uso de recursos web. A pesar de que los estudiantes dominan el componente tecnológico, cuando se analiza el manejo y la calidad de las fuentes de información que emplean se detectan numerosas carencias. En este trabajo se evalúan las competencias informacionales de los alumnos de dos materias de la licenciatura en Biología de la Universidad de A Coruña, y los resultados confirman que el desarrollo de actividades específicas, a pesar de suponer una inversión de tiempo para el docente, mejoran significativamente estas competencias. Así, en este trabajo presentamos la organización de talleres en grupos de docencia reducida en el nuevo Grado, que pueden permitir la formación en competencias transversales como las informacionales, pero también introducir métodos de trabajo como el sistema de revisión por pares., Students have a large amount of information readily available they can use while enrolled in our courses. Results confirm that the development of specific activities, even if they might be timecosting for teachers, certainly improve students’ skills. Thus, we present the organization of seminars for small groups of students in the new Grade in Biology that can serve to improve their information literacy skills, as well as to introduce students the process of peer-review.

En este trabajo se evalúan las competencias informacionales de los alumnos de dos materias de la licenciatura en Biología de la Universidad de A Coruña, y los resultados confirman que el desarrollo de actividades específicas, a pesar de suponer una inversión de tiempo para el docente, mejoran significativamente estas competencias. Así, en este trabajo presentamos la organización de talleres en grupos de docencia reducida en el nuevo Grado, que pueden permitir la formación en competencias transversales como las informacionales, pero también introducir métodos de trabajo como el sistema de revisión por pares., Students have a large amount of information readily available they can use while enrolled in our courses. However, they must have already acquired the necessary information literacy skills to search, evaluate, and use information in a proper and efficient way, mainly concerning Web resources. Despite the fact that students show high technological abilities, the analysis of the way they gather information and the quality of their sources shows that there are still important shortcomings. The present study evaluates the information literacy skills of students enrolled in two Biology subjects at the University of A Coruña. Results confirm that the development of specific activities, even if they might be timecosting for teachers, certainly improve students’ skills. Thus, we present the organization of seminars for small groups of students in the new Grade in Biology that can serve to improve their information literacy skills, as well as to introduce students the process of peer-review.

Programming Internet of Things (IoT) applications is challenging because developers have to be knowledgeable in various technical domains, from low-power networking, over embedded operating systems, to distributed algorithms. Hence, it will be challenging to find enough experts to provide software for the vast number of expected devices, which must also be scalable and particularly safe due to the connection to the physical world. To remedy this situation, we propose an architecture that provides Web-like scripting for low-end devices through Cloud-based application servers and a consistent, RESTful programming model. Our novel runtime container Actinium (Ac) exposes scripts, their configuration, and their lifecycle management through a fully RESTful programming interface using the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). We endow the JavaScript language with an API for direct interaction with mote-class IoT devices, the CoapRequest object, and means to export script data as Web resources. With Actinium, applications can be created by simply mashing up resources provided by CoAP servers on devices, other scripts, and classic Web services. One of the remarkable things I notice when I go to Modelling & Simulation (M&S) forums such as this one is when three-quarters of the room is silent and the remaining quarter doing all the talking already knows most of the answers anyway. Although the retention of vast corporate knowledge is certainly a plus in our community, it does not bode well for our future when the walls we place between ourselves and key leaders are self-imposed. The purpose of this lecture is to encourage the three-quarters to meet the few of us halfway by gaining a measure of self-confidence through a professional M&S reading programme. Most of those present are not here because of a keen desire to programme; although a few can. These lecture series are conducted to empower the implementer. If you are here to gather information in support of a senior General and are unable to articulate the M&S world view, we are doing you and ourselves a disservice. That is why I have compiled a very innocent list of answers to common questions and included the supported web sites so you can have your own on-line M&S library. Whether we realize or not, those of you looking for an answer need something more instantaneous than reading an entire book. In addition to providing an overview of what encompasses the definition of disability in North America, common web barriers associated with accessibility, and the tools available for evaluating the accessibility of web resources, this review focuses on the available research studies applicable to the accessibility of specific remote-accessed, web-based products provided by academic institutions that that are directly, and indirectly, used for e-learning. Literature discussing how (academic) libraries and organizations can help in the provision of accessible web resources is also presented.
