Background. In a recent paper, we described a new sponge species named Hemimycale mediterranea Uriz, Garate & Agell, 2017. However, we failed to designate a holotype and a type locality, as required by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN). Although the validity of the previous conclusions remains unchanged, the species name cannot be considered available according to ICZN regulations until a holotype is designated. Results. The present work fulfills the requirements of the ICZN by designating a holotype, three paratypes and the type locality for the new species Hemimycale mediterranea and has been registered in ZooBank.

A catalogue of arachnid type specimens of the collection kept at the Department of Animal Biology, University of La Laguna (Spain) is presented. It harbours type material of 104 species belonging to 23 families of arachnids, represented by 21 holotypes and 164 paratypes for 23 species of pseudoscorpions, and 49 holotypes, 218 paratypes and 3 syntypes for 81 species of spiders. This collection is using the criteria and standards of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) for cataloguing and computerization of the specimens. Type specimens were checked with the original descriptions, and relevant additional information from original labels not included in GBIF was registered.

The list contains 192 insect species, of which 139 are primary types. All have been described from material collected in or near Big Bend National Park, Texas.

Anopheles (Anopheles) forattinii new species, a member of the Series Arribalzagia, is described with illustrations of the larval and pupal stages, and male and female genitalia. It is contrasted with 2 similar species, An. (Anopheles) costai Fonseca & Ramos and An. (Anopheles) mediopunctatus (Lutz). This species, and An. costai, occur over much of South America where both have been misidentified as An. mediopunctatus, a species presently only known from southeastern Brazil., Pub. in the Journal of Medical Entomology, v36 n3 p345-354, 1999.

Acquisition of the J. Pedro Duret mosquito collection by the Smithsonian Institution is reported. The collection contains more than 14,000 individually pinned and labeled adult mosquitoes, including 39 primary type specimens. It also includes some 7,800 male genitalia preparations and 900 larval and pupal exuviae on microscope slides. A complete list of Duret species-group names is included, with label data for holotype specimens contained in the collection., Published in Mosquito Systematics, v22 n3 p192-195, December 1990.

After information on Pterosauria as a whole, more specific data are given on Santanadactylus brasilensis, a lower Cretaceous Pterodactyloid with an estimated wingspan of six metres, newly described from northeastern Brasil (de Buisonjé, 1980). Although the type-material, namely parts of the right scapula-coracoid and right humerus (holotype), together with two cervical vertebrae (paratypes) is rather fragmentary, reconstruction of these skeletal elements is possible. Moreover, comparison of the reconstructed elements with other, more completely known, closely related species of Pterodactyloidea enabled a scientifically reliable reconstruction of skeletal parts, not present in the type-material of Santanadactylus.Both scientific as well as technical data are given on the complete skeletal reconstruction of Santanadactylus brasilensis, executed in plastics, exposed in soaring flight in the Geological Museum, University of Amsterdam.

In a routine collection of mosquitoes from Kissimmee, Florida, sent to this laboratory for identification there appeared a specimen of Aedes which was recognized as a unique. At first it was thought to be an exotic and the fact that it was taken at an Army airport seemed to substantiate this belief. The specimen was sent to Dr. Alan Stone of the United States National Museum who kindly examined the specimen and suggested we make an intensive search for additional specimens., Published in the Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, v46 n2 p42-44, February 1944.
