För att företag ska förbli konkurrenskraftiga måste de koncentrera sig på att vara kostnadseffektiva samtidigt som de upprätthåller en hög nivå av kundservice. För att beslutsfattare ska kunna fatta bra beslut är en totalkostnadsanalys (TCA) ett viktigt verktyg för att stödja deras arbete. En TCA tar dock inte hänsyn till hur logistikkostnader kan utvecklas i framtiden vilket kan leda till en missvisande analys som kan få negativa konsekvenserför ett SME företag. Eftersom framtiden är svår att förutsäga kan en scenarioplanering vara ett verktyg för beslutsfattare eftersom denna metod tar hänsyn till externa faktorer och skiljer sig därmed från traditionella prognoser. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att upprätta en totalkostnadsanalys för respektive alternativ med fokus på logistikkostnader till Timber Windows som sedan ska kunna användas som underlag för beslutsfattande vid placering av hubb. Studiens syftar också till att skapa förståelse och undersöka hur en scenarioplanering kan addera mervärde till en totalkostnadsanalys med fokus på logistikkostnader för att utvärdera placering av hubb. Metod: För att kunna svara på studiens första två forskningsfrågor har en kvantitativfallstudie genomförts tillsammans med en deduktiv ansats. Till studiens tredje och sista forskningsfråga har istället en induktiv ansats använts. Primärdata har samlats in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer och därefter kompletterats med sekundärdata från fallföretaget Timer Windows, vetenskapliga artiklar, litteratur samt inhämtning av data från olika webbplatser. Slutsats: Studiens resultat visar att de identifierade logistikkostnader för Timber Windows nuvarande hubb i Vimmerby samt vid en eventuell flytt till Jönköping eller Stockholm är lastbil, drivmedel, personal, lager och truckkostnader. Background: Severe traumatic brain-injured (TBI) patients should be primarily admitted to a hub trauma center (hospital with neurosurgical capabilities) to allow immediate delivery of appropriate care in a specialized environment. Sometimes, severe TBI patients are admitted to a spoke hospital (hospital without neurosurgical capabilities), and scarce data are available regarding the optimal management of severe isolated TBI patients who do not have immediate access to neurosurgical care. Methods: A multidisciplinary consensus panel composed of 41 physicians selected for their established clinical and scientific expertise in the acute management of TBI patients with different specializations (anesthesia/intensive care, neurocritical care, acute care surgery, neurosurgery and neuroradiology) was established. The consensus was endorsed by the World Society of Emergency Surgery, and a modified Delphi approach was adopted. Results: A total of 28 statements were proposed and discussed. Consensus was reached on 22 strong recommendations and 3 weak recommendations. In three cases, where consensus was not reached, no recommendation was provided. Conclusions: This consensus provides practical recommendations to support clinician’s decision making in the management of isolated severe TBI patients in centers without neurosurgical capabilities and during transfer to a hub center.

Short-haul planes leaving Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are criticized and/or disliked by many groups, including society, the government, and Actieagenda trein en luchtvaart 2020 (Rijksoverheid, 2020). Due to public opinion and political pressure, the airport is challenged to improve its sustainability. Since the airport relies heavily on hub-connected flights and has public transport nearby, integrating the buses and trains can help enhance the hub-and-spoke model of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The client is investigated to understand the direction of the outcome. Internal analysis of the company revealed that the airport aims to be the most high-quality airport in the world (Schiphol Group, 2021). To achieve this, the company offers commodities that are (related to) infrastructure and facilities that support this infrastructure. With this, the company mainly relies on digitally supported services. This report concludes that facilitating what is within the transfer is the responsibility of RSG as per their current expertise. Additionally, the company's collaborations show they are committed to knowledge exchange and new business insights, including politics, proving they are "business creators." As a result, this project is shaped around these skills. To understand how to create seamless passenger transfers, the problem is investigated. The literature review revealed that factors influence passengers' transfer experience: information and signage, distance, ticketing services, safety and security, special services, cleanliness and maintenance, commercial services, baggage services, and environment. To achieve high quality, the passenger has to perceive these as high quality. The research revealed that the less cognitive effort a passenger needs with the factor, the more seamless the travel is. Offshore energy hubs connect large amounts of offshore wind to a hub from where the generation can be transmitted to onshore, potentially linking to multiple surrounding countries. The benefits of such hubs, and the related meshed offshore grid to connect them, have been investigated in the North Sea. The system-wide impacts of offshore energy hubs in the Baltic Sea are less studied; however, the region is seeing increased interest in offshore wind development. This paper uses detailed offshore wind generation simulations and energy system optimisation to investigate the cost-effectiveness of offshore energy hubs in the Baltic Sea in different scenarios towards 2050. The results show that the largest deployment of offshore energy hubs occurs when the energy system is highly electrified. The strongest development of the offshore energy hubs occurs in the southern part of the Baltic Sea.

This paper proposes a probabilistic model with the aim to reduce the solar energy operation cost and CO2 emissions of a multi-carrier microgrid. The MCMG in this study includes various elements such as combined heat and power (CHP), electrical heat pump (EHP), absorption chiller, solar panels, and thermal and electrical storages. A MILP model is proposed to manage the commitment of energy producers, energy storage equipment, the amount of selling/buying of energy with the upstream network, and the energy consumption of the responsible electrical loads for the day-ahead optimal operation of this microgrid. The proposed operation model is formulated as a multi-objective optimization model based on two environmental and economic objectives, using a weighted sum technique and a fuzzy satisfying approach. In this paper, the 2 m + 1-point estimate strategy has been used to model the uncertainties caused by the output power of solar panels and the upstream power supply price. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed model, and also for minimizing cost and CO2 emissions, the simulation was conducted on two typical cold and hot days. Numerical results show the proposed model’s performance and the effect of electrifying the heating and cooling of the microgrid through the EHP unit on greenhouse gas emissions in the scenarios considered.

This project proposes possible solutions to be adopted at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona ¿ El Prat airport with the purpose of trying to solve the problem that has been known for some time. The main objective of this work is to carry out a data study to find out the infrastructure state of the Catalan airport in terms of capacity. The methodology that has been used in this study approach contains two different sections: Firstly, there has been scientific research in order to gain the theoretical knowledge regarding the topic. Therefore, the data have been analyzed using R Studio and Microsoft Excel. Following these steps, it has been possible to carry out a complete capacity study, thus obtaining visual, quantitative and empirical results. These steps will allow to draw several conclusions validating whether the main problem at Barcelona airport is capacity. The main question is if the extension of the Josep Tarradellas airport is necessary. If that is the case, is the capacity the source of the problem? These issues, among others, arise in the development of this project and will be the ones that ultimately determine whether the expansion is necessary due to delimitation of capacity. After a thorough theoretical and practical work (analyzing the results), it can be confirmed that capacity is not the reason why this infrastructure should be expanded.

In the past few decades, supermarkets and online grocery alternatives have been chipping away at the revenue of small local stores. This trend has only accelerated during the corona pandemic of 2020. Right now, the online grocery sector is the fastest-growing e-commerce sector in the world. At the same time, there is a trend in shorter food chains. The past few years have been particularly good for small alternatives of locally produced food. Companies like Boerschappen' and 'Support Your Locals' have been growing explosively in 2020. These companies try to sell products directly from the farmers to the customers. Local Heroes (LH) is a start-up located in Amsterdam that intends to exploit this growing market of locally produced food to the advantage of local speciality stores. By providing small stores with an online platform to sell their products they want to make them more resistant to the growing online supermarkets. And by including initiatives of shorter food chains they try to keep the customers close to where the food comes from. To achieve this goal, LH uses an app and a mobile distribution centre (DC). This DC is located on the outskirt of a local daily food market. Customer order food from various vendors located in the neighbourhood via the app. LH then collects all the products at the DC and distributes them to the customer. The DC also functions as a pick-up point for people in the neighbourhood. LH wants to expand its business to other markets in Amsterdam, and possibly the Netherlands. For this to happen they need a DC which they can put anywhere to start operations. This graduation project describes the design process of this mobile DC. Firstly, the analysis of the current DC is described. From this research came several focus areas regarding product flow, customer contact and ergonomics. Food has played an important role in shaping our metropolitan regions, such as Westland in South Holland, The Netherlands. The industrialisation and globalisation of agriculture in Westland has prioritised economy and efficiency, creating issues of liveability and sustainability. The market-driven expansion of the agri-food industry has contributed to spatial competition in Westland and has created many spatial consequences, one of the most serious being the fact that according to surveys, areas around agri-food business parks have the lowest liveability scores in the region. These food-related issues are multi-faceted spatial matters that architects can address. The aim of this research is to better understand how the synergistic integration of food system processes with urban functions through architecture can create a more liveable and sustainable development of agri-food business parks in Westland. First, key strategies towards integrating food systems with urban areas are identified through a theoretical exploration of case-study projects of past architects and planners. Following this exploration, the matters that architects can have an impact on in the food system are determined. Next, a spatial analysis of the selected agri-food business park is carried out to determine spatial factors that are contributing to low-liveability in the area. Missing spatial qualities that can restore liveability are then identified. Based on the result of the theoretical exploration and spatial analysis, a design framework is devised and synthesised in a set of spatial design tools that can be used to create an architectural intervention that can act as a catalyst and disrupt the problematic urban development around agri-food business parks in Westland. The spatial design tools are then interpreted in a design of a master plan and architectural proposal that reimagines a more liveable and sustainable future of Westland’s Honderdland agri-food business park in the town, City of the Future, Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences

En las dos últimas décadas, el número de vuelos y pasajeros del transporte aéreo ha aumentado muy significativamente. Para poder abordar la gran cantidad de demanda por parte de los pasajeros y no perder calidad en el servicio ofrecido, el sector aeronáutico se ve obligado a mejorar sus infraestructuras. Resulta interesante conocer en qué medida estas inversiones generan crecimiento económico y empleo en la región donde están localizados los aeropuertos. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar en qué medida influyeron el número de vuelos y asientos disponibles en el número de empleados de todos los Estados Miembros de la Unión Europea para los años 2016 y 2017. Como se verá a lo largo del trabajo, esta relación resulta ser positiva y significativa, pero de manera más importante en el sector servicio que no en el sector industrial. Este resultado no es homogéneo, sino que depende de la estructura económica del país y del tipo de gestión aeroportuaria. Medidas de política económica como el incremento de la inversión en aquellos aeropuertos con una ocupación cercana al cien por cien de su capacidad y una gestión aeroportuaria descentralizada que permita a los aeropuertos competir entre ellos y atraer la localización de un hub por parte de alguna compañía de bandera, generarían un incremento del tráfico aéreo, de la actividad económica y del empleo.

Food has played an important role in shaping our metropolitan regions, such as Westland in South Holland, The Netherlands. The industrialisation and globalisation of agriculture in Westland has prioritised economy and efficiency, creating issues of liveability and sustainability. The market-driven expansion of the agri-food industry has contributed to spatial competition in Westland and has created many spatial consequences, one of the most serious being the fact that according to surveys, areas around agri-food business parks have the lowest liveability scores in the region. These food-related issues are multi-faceted spatial matters that architects can address. The aim of this research is to better understand how the synergistic integration of food system processes with urban functions through architecture can create a more liveable and sustainable development of agri-food business parks in Westland. First, key strategies towards integrating food systems with urban areas are identified through a theoretical exploration of case-study projects of past architects and planners. Following this exploration, the matters that architects can have an impact on in the food system are determined. Next, a spatial analysis of the selected agri-food business park is carried out to determine spatial factors that are contributing to low-liveability in the area. Missing spatial qualities that can restore liveability are then identified. Based on the result of the theoretical exploration and spatial analysis, a design framework is devised and synthesised in a set of spatial design tools that can be used to create an architectural intervention that can act as a catalyst and disrupt the problematic urban development around agri-food business parks in Westland. The spatial design tools are then interpreted in a design of a master plan and architectural proposal that reimagines a more liveable and sustainable future of Westland’s Honderdland agri-food business park in the town, City of the Future, Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences

In the past few decades, supermarkets and online grocery alternatives have been chipping away at the revenue of small local stores. This trend has only accelerated during the corona pandemic of 2020. Right now, the online grocery sector is the fastest-growing e-commerce sector in the world. At the same time, there is a trend in shorter food chains. The past few years have been particularly good for small alternatives of locally produced food. Companies like Boerschappen' and 'Support Your Locals' have been growing explosively in 2020. These companies try to sell products directly from the farmers to the customers. Local Heroes (LH) is a start-up located in Amsterdam that intends to exploit this growing market of locally produced food to the advantage of local speciality stores. By providing small stores with an online platform to sell their products they want to make them more resistant to the growing online supermarkets. And by including initiatives of shorter food chains they try to keep the customers close to where the food comes from. To achieve this goal, LH uses an app and a mobile distribution centre (DC). This DC is located on the outskirt of a local daily food market. Customer order food from various vendors located in the neighbourhood via the app. LH then collects all the products at the DC and distributes them to the customer. The DC also functions as a pick-up point for people in the neighbourhood. LH wants to expand its business to other markets in Amsterdam, and possibly the Netherlands. For this to happen they need a DC which they can put anywhere to start operations. This graduation project describes the design process of this mobile DC. Firstly, the analysis of the current DC is described. From this research came several focus areas regarding product flow, customer contact and ergonomics. European air transport market and its growing tendency has led to an environment where all airports are facing fierce competition to attract connecting passengers and airlines. The potential development of long-haul low-cost carriers will be held by second tier airports, airports one step below hubs, in the future years. For this reason, the thesis aims to analyse the European second tier airports in terms of connectivity along with its evolution during the 2009-2017 period. The impact of long-haul low-cost flights into the connectivity values of European second tier airports will also be studied. To fulfil the objectives of the thesis, a connectivity analysis is done in terms of passenger accessibility and airport centrality applying the Netscan model. Once the different types of connectivity values are determined, a clustering is done to group similar airports. The historical connectivity levels are analysed following the previous clustering. Then a study case is done by comparing connectivity analysis results with the introduction of long-haul low-cost phantom flights. The main findings of the thesis conclude that there are significant differences between European second tier airports in terms of connectivity. Munich’s performance is better than all other second tier airports, even compared to airports with higher number of passengers like Barcelona, London Gatwick or even than major hubs like Madrid. European second tier airports are primarily focused on intra-European operations. The historical data of European second tier airports reveals that the period 2009-2017 has been satisfactory in terms of connectivity, growing 19% in direct connectivity and more than 30% for other types of connectivity. The study case exposes that it is too early to determine the implications of long-haul low-cost operations in terms of connectivity on the European market since most results are inconclusive

Introduction: The COVID-19 outbreak highly impacted the acute ischemic stroke care management. The primary end point of the study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the following lockdown measures on our hub-and-spoke network; the secondary end point was to evaluate if the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak was different in hub-and-spoke centers. Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter observational study conducted at the Stroke Units of Policlinico Gemelli, Ospedale San Filippo Neri, Ospedale di Belcolle, and Ospedale San Camillo de Lellis. We collected clinical reports of all consecutive patients admitted with diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) during the phase 1 of the lockdown period (11 March 2020–4 May 2020). As controls, we used all consecutive patients admitted for acute ischemic stroke or TIA in the same period of the previous year. Results: A total of 156 and 142 clinical reports were collected in 2019 and 2020, respectively. During the COVID-19 outbreak, we observed a reduction of number of thrombolysis, a reduction of the length of hospitalization, and an increase of pneumonia. Regarding performance indicators, we observed an increase in onset-to-door time and in door-to-groin time. We did not observe any statistically significant interaction between year (2019 vs 2020) and facility of admission (hub vs spoke) on all variables analyzed. Discussion: Our observational study, involving hub-and-spoke stroke network of a wide regional area, indicates that the COVID-19 outbreak impacted on the acute stroke management. This impact was equally observed in hub as well as in spoke centers.

Al mismo tiempo, se pretende convertir la estación en un centro de estudio e investigación de la naturaleza que suponga un intercambio de conocimientos entre las personas que se desplazan gracias al tren. El nuevo programa se desplaza hacia el sur y se divide en dos partes: la estación intermodal y el centro de estudio de la naturaleza. De las cuatro las piezas emergentes, tres de ellas corresponden al centro de investigación y otra a la estación. Por otro lado, el centro de investigación se compone de un albergue con zonas de estudio anexadas, así como un aula-taller polivalente y una zona de estudio independiente de las piezas de albergue., [EN] The primary purpose of this project is to solve the connections between Tavernes de la Valldigna's train station and the cultural and environmental interest pints, as with the main surrounding towns: Tavernes, Tavernes beach, Simat and Benifairó. At the same time, the intention is to transform the station in a whole hub where to study the nature and exchange knowledge with the people who uses the train. The new plan is moved to the south and is divided in two parts: the intermodal station and the nature researching centre. Among the four pieces coming to the surface, three of them belong to the centre and the other one to the train station. The station body comes up as a hinge that creates diverse paths attending to the different users¿ needs. There is a cafeteria that serves as a waiting area while giving direct connection to the platforms. On the other hand, the research centre consists of a hostel with attached study areas, as well as a multipurpose classroom-workshop and a study area independent of the hostel.

This project tackles the design and development of a component addressed to the Formula Student Car that suffered failure in service in recent times. First, targets are stated and requirements regarding safety, manufacturing and cost are gathered. Also, a brief introduction on fatigue failures is presented. The proposed method for the new design includes: analysis of the previous part, load cases and fatigue analysis, design and simulation, for the optimum design approach. The structural aspect includes: selection of appropriate materials, rough calculation for new expected lifetime, presentation of the full structural CAD and further computational verification. For each of the main design stages, a briefing on the results is provided, also the results are evaluated and some general conclusions are extracted

This research is about strategies of architectural actions on urban “food space” that aim to provide a new sustainable vitality way of diet for re-feeding the city. The subject of the study is located in Badalona on the northern edge area of Barcelona. The development and construction of this area started late, with low population density and lack of urban vitality and diversity. It is worth noting that the commercial model of food in this area, sales and catering, are monotonous and its service radiation range is small. Food, closely related to people ’s daily lives, in whole or in part, has a “reprogramming” effect on certain spaces in the city. From the perspective of architecture, this thesis proposes the core idea “refeeding city” throuth new food space, creating a sustainable city full of healthy food, diverse food consumption spaces, and ecological public spaces. The research includes theoretical research on food space and the specific strategies of the project. The chapter one about food space involves a research on the relationship between food and urban space, and research on the future development trend of food space. And then in the chapter two, studying how to carry out specific urban and architectural space design strategies to provide the city with fresh food, new eating spaces and new vibrant urban spaces. As a result, this study attempts to establish the relationship between food and physical space through different spatial strategies to achieve the purpose of reshaping urban space, providing a new sustainable way of feeding city, and stimulating urban development.

The paper explores the extents to which the concept of hub is suitable to represent Milan's role in the spatial, social and economic organization of the fashion industry. The system is spatially structured along two complementary forces: a strong embeddedness in the local society and an equally important internationalisation process. Through these analyses, the authors draw some reflections on the importance of the notion of hub for the urban policies.

Right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of researchers and colleagues from the library sector set themselves the task of supporting research on the SARS-Cov-2 virus. In March 2020, ZB MED established the COVID-19 Hub: Since then, the platform offers a collection of various resources of free literature, current sources and text mining corpora. The ZB MED COVID-19 Hub also contains interactive bioinformatics tools for molecular biology researchers such as Genome Browser, Multiple Sequence Alignment Viewer and phylogenetic trees of the complete SARS-CoV-2 genomes. ZB MED has also set up an automated search for SARS-CoV-2 on the search portal LIVIVO. Within NFDI4Health, ZB MED has set up the COVID-19 Task Force with various partners. As a first result within the initiative, the ZB MED team has developed the COVID-19 Preprint Viewer.In September 2020, the ZB MED team won the special prize in the competition of the German MLA (AGMB) "Pioneer projects in medical libraries" for the ZB MED COVID-19 Hub. Syftet med detta arbete är att utveckla en fixtur som har egenskapen att stödja en tung växellåda så den utgående axeln på växellådan kan provas i provriggen T22. Metoden som används för denna utveckling består av flera moment där den första delen är att mäta nuvarande mått på växellådan och modellera en fixtur med hjälp av de mått som tagits i CAD-programmet CATIA. Därefter kan fixturen som konstruerats i CATIA sammanställas ihop med växellådan för att se om dimensionerna stämmer. När sammanställningen har genomförts kan mekaniska analyser utföras och sedan avslutas med tester. Resultatet av projektet blev en upphängningsanordning som monteras på Scanias växellådor som i sin tur kopplas ihop med provrigg T22. Scanias befintliga komponenter som lyftbalk och cirkulär konsol användes och kompletterades med armar som möjliggör att montera växellådan bakifrån i provrigg T22. Av det här resultatet kan vi dra slutsatsen att Scania kan montera fixturen på de allra flesta GW växellådorna och utföra mätningar via provriggen T22., This thesis is about designing a suspension device for a test rig at Scania. Scania currently has several different test rigs, one test rig they have is T22. The purpose of this work is to develop a fixture that has the property of supporting a large gearbox so that the output shaft of the gearbox can be tested in the test rig T22. The method used for this development consists of several parts where the first part is to measure the current dimensions of the gearbox and then create a fixture in the CAD program CATIA V5 adapted to the dimensions taken before on the gearbox. Then the fixture constructed in CATIA V5 can be assembled with the gearbox to check if the dimensions are correct and fits together. Once the compilation has been completed, mechanical analyzes can be performed and then conclude with tests.The result of the project was a suspension device that is mounted on Scania's gearboxes which in turn are connected to test rig T22. Scania's existing components such as lifting beam and circular adapter were used and supplemented with arms that allow the gearbox to be mounted from behind in test rig T22.From this result we can conclude that Scania can mount the fixture on most GW gearboxes and perform measurements using the test rig T22.

This report discusses the design and implementation of a subsystem required for an energy system integration demonstrator. The purpose of this subsystem is emulating energy systems using physical table-top model representations. This system has been realised using a Raspberry Pi 3B+, which communicates information using the IኼC protocol to the table-top models. The physical models can actuate information regarding the energy systems from the Raspberry Pi with DACs, and sense realtime information with ADCs., Energy System Integration Demonstrator

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) requires a redesign of the Surface Warfare Engineering Facility (SWEF) to act as a central hub for real-time Navy fleet combat systems distance support from the applicable In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA). This study produced two architectures for the SWEF-Hub. The first architecture is implementable within a short time and largely creates the central communications station and details activities that it will perform. The second architecture, implementable in the long-term, employs advanced technological concepts including machine learning and condition-based maintenance to help the warfighter perform effective and timely equipment preventative and corrective maintenance, provide the health status of every ship to the departments within NSWC PHD, and streamline decision-making processes and provide enhanced distance support. In addition, SWEF-Hub will provide the capabilities to allow secure data analysis, system software updates, and predictive system analysis.
