The purpose of this thesis is to design a wave energy converter (WEC) that can transform the linear energy from the sea wave into rotary energy which can drive generator. The design is based on existing model of WEC which have develop for decades. The design focus on the Power-Take-Off system of a WEC and is shaped to be a point absorber type of WEC. The engineering design process is applied to the thesis which is conducted over three phase: Gathering information; Concept generation and Detail design. In first phase of the process, a literature review has been done; design parameters have been decided and PDS has been made to make a foundation for the whole design process. Second phase show a creation of 7 new concept based on the data gathered from the initial phase, then a concept selection of one promising idea is made using the Weighted Rating Method. After recruiting the favorable candidate concept, an 3D model of the device is detail made, showingworking principle, assembly overview, parts and components, material design, dimension, etc., resulting in a new PTO design for a WEC. Further development is needed such as control solution and testing analysis

The purpose of this study was to improve the design construction of a float type wave micro energy converter. Especially we emphasized on the modelling of a metal capsule float type converter in order for better performance of its kind. At the same time we discussed some parameters on the basis of experimental study. Data concerning on the status of wave energetics and the process of development were discussed. The operating principle, advantages of the wave plant and its benefits as compared to the existing technology were reported. The project of a test installation of wave simulator and the research results were presented. The authors also investigated the electro technical characteristics of the generating unit. The developed micro unit of WMPP showed the possibility of energy generation at wave amplitude from 20cm and more when the wave oscillation period T within 1-5sec. The field research with the wave oscillation simulator confirmed the generation values of one micro unit within the capacity limits from 20 to 60W. It will broaden the possible opportunities and increase the WMPP capacity by a certain level if the micro units are constructed in cluster systems. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The article presents the results of a project in the faculty of engineering of the Cooperative University of Colombia in Villavicencio in the hotbed of Energy Renovaveis GIPIS research, entitled “Design, construction and operation of a mechanical prototype “Brio xy” that transforms hydraulic energy into electrical energy”. The work aims to create a solution for power generation by means of a mechanical prototype that leverages the power of a water source transforming it into electrical energy, the implemented prototype was called XY Brio is an experimental computer-driven current water, this energy leads to a gear system that becomes a rotational movement, connected to an alternator that converts electrical energy. The implemented prototype generates an electric power of 1KW / 13 VDC., El artículo presenta los resultados de un proyecto realizado en la facultad de ingenierías de la universidad cooperativa de Colombia sede Villavicencio en el semillero de investigación Energy-Renovaveis- GIPIS, titulada “Diseño, construcción y puesta en funcionamiento de un prototipo mecánico “Brio xy” que transforma la energía hidráulica en energía eléctrica”. El trabajo tiene la finalidad de crear una solución para la generación de energía, por medio de un prototipo mecánico que aproveche la energía de una fuente hídrica transformándola en energía eléctrica, el prototipo implementado se le denomino Brío XY es un equipo experimental impulsado por la corriente del agua, esta energía se conduce a un sistema de engranajes que la torna en un movimiento rotacional, que conectado a un alternador la convierte en energía eléctrica. El prototipo implementado genera una potencia eléctrica de 1KW / 13 VDC

In this paper we propose a solution of the problem related to match of level and shapes of pulses generated by microcontrollers with control signals of power transistor inputs. It is related to development of energy converters with application of pulse-width modulation. Also in this paper we analyze different existent methods of power modules protection with purpose of maximal efficient application of their power characteristics.

A new motion simulator has been developed to simulate Minesto AB’s tidal energy converter flying in water. The motion simulator is as a part of a new computer based development environment, aiming to shorten the company’s development process. The environment consists of a hydrodynamic analysis together with the new simulator to evaluate the performance of the company’s tidal energy converter. The new motion simulator is custom-made in MATLAB and Simulink for Minesto’s purposes, simulating the motion of a flying tidal energy converter with six degrees of freedom in variable flow conditions. The hydrodynamic forces used in the simulator are calculated in the hydrodynamic analysis. Quaternions are used to avoid singularities in the angle representation, enabling the device to move freely without mathematical restrictions. The flow conditions are set in an external flow model with the ability to simulate variable flows. A control system is integrated in Simulink to control the device’s rudder during the simulation. The simulations are valid for normal flight conditions and are usable for development of both device and control system designs but also for educational purposes, especially if integrated with a visualization program.
