The commencement of a new editorial tenure within the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology: Attitudes and Social Cognition (JPSP: ASC) provides an opportunity for reflection regarding the journal's core mission. The editors recognize that social psychology is at a crossroads due to competing demands that may have led to reduced submissions and posed challenges for previous editors in filling the journal's pages. Now, JPSP: ASC has been allotted more pages to allow for growth during this editorial term. Although this is desirable for the field, it adds to the pressure of identifying articles for publication given the difficulties filling the pages during previous editorial terms. As the premier outlet of social psychology since 1965, JPSP: ASC will retain its centrality if we increase submissions and publish more articles, while continuing to strive to communicate methodologically trustworthy, intellectually stimulating, and socially relevant research, in a responsible fashion. In this study, using a bioinformatics approach, we aimed to examine the value of DAZ Interacting Protein 1 (DZIP1) as a prognostic predictor and therapeutic target in GC.Methods: We explored the clinical relevance, function, and molecular role of DZIP1 in GC using MethSurv, cBioPortal, TIMER, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, IMEx, ONCOMINE, MEXPRESS, and EWAS Atlas databases. The GSE118919 dataset was used to plot receiver operating characteristic curves. Using The Cancer Genome Atlas, we developed a Cox regression model and assessed the clinical significance of DZIPs. In addition, we used the “xCELL” algorithm to make reliable immune infiltration estimations. Western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to examine protein expression. We also evaluated the possible mechanisms involved in the oncogenic role of FSTL3 in gastric carcinogenesis and development.Methods: We obtained data from the Human Protein Atlas, MethSurv, cBioPortal, UALCAN, TIMER, GEPIA, STRING, GeneMANIA, ONCOMINE, and MEXPRESS databases and examined it using R software. RNAi was used to establish stable FSTL3-knockdown (shFSTL3) and overexpression (OE) cell strains. By proper incorporation of an intramolecular oxetane desymmetrization process, a range of benzylic alcohols bearing an internal oxetane reacted in the presence of a suitable chiral phosphoric acid catalyst to form chiral 1,4-benzodioxepines with high enantioselectivity. This process provides a new catalytic asymmetric example of direct synthesis of seven-membered heterocycles with good stereocontrol. © 2019 American Chemical Society.

Cotutela Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya i Università degli Studi di Pavia, Numerical simulation tools are generally used in all modern engineering fields, especially those having difficulties in performing large number of practical experiments, such as biomechanics. Among the computational methods, Finite Element (FE) is an essential tool. Nowadays, the fast-growing computational techniques, from the upgrading hardware to the emerging of novel algorithm, have already enabled extensive applications in biomechanics. For applications that require fast response and/or multiple queries, Reduced Order Modelling (ROM) methods have been developed based on existing methods such as FE, and have eventually enabled real-time numerical simulation for a large variety of engineering problems. In this thesis, several novel computational techniques are developed to explore the capability of Proper Generalised Decomposition (PGD), which is an important approach of ROM. To assess the usability of the PGD-based ROM for biomechanical applications, a real human femur bone is chosen to study its mechanical behaviour as an example. Standard image-based modelling procedure in biomechanics is performed to create an FE model which is then validated with in vitro experimental results. As a basis of this work, the medical image processing has to be performed, in order to generate an available FE model. This model is validated according to data collected from a previously performed \textit{in vitro} experimental test. The full procedure of image-based model generation and the validation of generated model is described in Chapter 2. As a major objective of this thesis, a non-intrusive scheme for the PGD framework is developed in Chapter 3. It is implemented using in-house developed Matlab (Mathworks, USA) code to conduct the PGD work flow, and calling Abaqus as an external solver for devised fictitious mechanical problems. It is a powerful tool alleviating the curse of dimensionality affecting multiparametric partial differential equations. Most implementations of PGD are intrusive extensions based on in-house developed FE solvers. In this work, we propose a nonintrusive PGD scheme using off-the-shelf FE codes (such as certified commercial software) as an external solver. The scheme is implemented and monitored by in-house flow-control codes. A typical implementation is provided with downloadable codes. Moreover, a novel parametric separation strategy for the PGD resolution is presented. The parametric space is split into two- or three-dimensional subspaces, to allow PGD technique solving problems with constrained parametric spaces, achieving higher convergence ratio. The authors propose that culture affects people through their perceptions of what is consensually believed. Whereas past research has examined whether cultural differences in social judgment are mediated by differences in individuals' personal values and beliefs, this article investigates whether they are mediated by differences in individuals' perceptions of the views of people around them. The authors propose that individuals who perceive that traditional views are culturally consensual (e.g., Chinese participants who believe that most of their fellows hold collectivistic values) will themselves behave and think in culturally typical ways. Four studies of previously well-established cultural differences found that cultural differences were mediated by participants' perceived consensus as much as by participants' personal views. This held true for cultural differences in the bases of compliance (Study 1), attributional foci (Study 2), and counterfactual thinking styles (Study 3). To tease apart the effect of consensus perception from other possibly associated individual differences, in Study 4, the authors experimentally manipulated which of 2 cultures was salient to bicultural participants and found that judgments were guided by participants' perception of the consensual view of the salient culture.
