This study investigated the hybridization between an axion and plasmon polariton, attributed to the coupling achieved by combining modified electrodynamics and hydrodynamic approaches on a plasmon-polariton in a graphene periodic structure. The enhancement of the effective coupling was also studied. Furthermore, corrections for the axion and the lowest plasmon -polariton hybridization state spectra have been presented. An observable was proposed to detect axions, which is significant even when the effective coupling is not large, especially as the axion mass decreases. The study shows that the resulting structure provides a sensitive and wide-mass-spectrum platform for detecting axions at the sub-meV scale.

RÉSUMÉ: Phase separation of formation fluids in the subsurface introduces hydrodynamic perturbations which are critical for mass and energy transport of geofluids. Here, we present pore-scale lattice-Boltzmann simulations to investigate the hydrodynamical response of a porous system to the emergence of non-wetting droplets under background hydraulic gradients. A wide parameter space of capillary number and fluid saturation is explored to characterize the droplet evolution, the droplet size and shape distribution, and the capillary-clogging patterns. We find that clogging is favored by high capillary stress; nonetheless, clogging occurs at high non-wetting saturation (larger than 0.3), denoting the importance of convective transport on droplet growth and permeability. Moreover, droplets are more sheared at low capillary number; however, solid matrix plays a key role on droplet's volume-to-surface ratio.

The main goal of this work is to implement and validate a visualization method with a given temporal/spatial resolution to obtain the dynamic three-dimensional (3D) structure of an air plume injected into a deformable liquid-saturated porous medium. The air plume develops via continuous air injection through an orifice at the bottom of a loose packing of crushed silica grains. The packing is saturated by a glycerin-water solution having the same refractive index and placed in a rectangular glass container. By using high-speed image acquisition through laser scanning, the dynamic air plume is recorded by sequential tomographic imaging. Due to the overlap between adjacent laser sheets and the light reflection, air bubbles are multiply exposed in the imaging along the scanning direction. Four image processing methods are presented for the removal of these redundant pixels arising from multiple exposure. The respective results are discussed by comparing the reconstructed air plume volume with the injected one and by evaluating the morphological consistency of the obtained air plume. After processing, a 3D dynamic air flow pattern can be obtained, allowing a quantitative analysis of the air flow dynamics on pore-scale. In the present experimental configuration, the temporal resolution is 0.1s and the spatial resolution is 0.17mm in plane and about 1mm out of plane of the laser sheet

In this work, a new Parametric Reduced-Order Model (PROM) with use of the Modally Equivalent Perturbed System (MEPS) and the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is applied to unsteady flow about Airfoil with parameter variations in Mach. By applying the method, the original parameter-varied fluid system can be reduced from a very large dimension to a small dimension (e.g. for 2D case from 10,000 states to 100 states). While traditional Reduced-Order Model (ROM) cannot account for parameter variations, the present PROM is efficient to treat parameter changes adaptively. This means the POD modes obtained are valid for a wide range of parameter values. Towards this end, we have developed a frequency-domain CFD solver in which the fluid model is statically nonlinear, dynamically linearized (SNLDL) allowing unsteady simulations with small oscillations in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flows in state-space format. With the state-space model, one can predict system responses (e.g. unsteady aerodynamic responses due to small amplitude oscillations of the lifting surface), conduct eigen-analysis, and build the PROMs. The ability of the new method to save substantial amount of computation for the varying parameter will be demonstrated using a 2D airfoil configuration., Meeting Information: First International Symposium on Flutter and its Application (May 15-17, 2016. In this paper, The structure of video conference is formulated and the peer-assisted distribution scheme is constructed to achieve optimal video delivery rate in each sub-conference. The capacity of conference is proposed to referee the video rate that can be supported in every possible scenario. We have proved that, in case of one user watching only one video, 5/6 is a lower bound of the capacity which is much larger than 1/2, the achievable rate of chained approach in [2]. Almost all proofs in this paper are constructive. They can be applied into real implementation directly with a few modifications.

Despite nearly three decades of paleomagnetic research on the extensive Chinese loess deposits, a convincing explanation has yet to be developed for how Chinese loess becomes magnetized. To address this problem, we conducted re-deposition experiments using weakly consolidated Holocene Chinese loess that was disaggregated in the laboratory, and compare our results with published paleomagnetic data. We simulated a depositional remanent magnetization (DRM) associated with dry deposition of eolian sediments, and a post-depositional remanent magnetization (PDRM) in which the sediment was water-saturated after deposition. The simulated DRM faithfully records the declination of the applied field, but with systematic inclination flattening. Addition of minor water slightly improves recording of the applied field, but inclination flattening persists. Reliable recording of the applied field occurs for PDRM simulation in water-saturated sediment. Our synthesis of paleomagnetic data from Chinese loess indicates that time-averaged paleomagnetic directions are often indistinguishable from the expected geocentric axial dipole (GAD) field, but in many cases inclinations are shallower than for a GAD field. We conclude that the Chinese loess is magnetized by a combination of DRM and PDRM mechanisms, with water content providing the dominant control on which mechanism aligns the detrital mineral fraction. Where pedogenesis causes neoformation of magnetic minerals, an additional chemical remanent magnetization (CRM) will occur. The magnetization of Chinese loess therefore appears to be controlled by a complex time-varying combination of DRM, PDRM and CRM mechanisms.
