Item does not contain fulltext, PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: To assess what percentage of oncology nurses perceived themselves as having insufficient knowledge to provide advice on nutrition and/or physical activity (PA), which characteristics were associated with nurses' perception, and whether the content and information sources differed among those nurses.. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study.. SETTING: A web-based survey among oncology nurses in the Netherlands.. SAMPLE: 355 oncology nurses provided advice on nutrition; of these, 327 provided advice on PA.. METHODS: From May to July 2013, oncology nurses were invited to complete an online questionnaire. Pearson's chi-squared tests and uni- and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted.. MAIN RESEARCH VARIABLES: Oncology nurses' perception of having sufficient or insufficient knowledge to be able to provide advice on nutrition and PA, the content of the advice, and the information sources on which the advice was based.. FINDINGS: 43% of oncology nurses perceived themselves as having insufficient knowledge to provide advice on nutrition, and 46% perceived insufficient knowledge to provide advice on PA. Factors associated with perceiving insufficient knowledge on nutrition were being aged younger, having lower education, and providing counseling during treatment only. Those nurses were more likely to suggest taking oral nutritional supplements or visiting a dietitian and were less likely to provide information on fluid intake. Nurses perceiving insufficient knowledge about PA used oncology guidelines less often.. CONCLUSIONS: Almost half of the oncology nurses providing advice on nutrition and PA perceived themselves as having insufficient knowledge to be able to provide such advice. - Abstract
GNSS is already a technology that pervades modern lifestyles and over the last decade has become integral to many of our transport systems. One of the major barriers to the development of GNSS for safety-critical services such as aviation comes from the unknown threats from Space Weather.In order to overcome the intrinsic limitation posed by space weather, regional systems called Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) have been developed. The European region has a system called EGNOS. The idea behind these systems is to ensure that integrity information is provided to the GNSS user. Part of the function of an SBAS system is to map 2the ionised regions of the upper atmosphere (the ionosphere) to enable specialist aviation GNSS receivers to make corrections for the ionospheric delay and hence to achieve a more accurate position. This is very important but more critical still is the capability to know how accurate a position is at a given time and this is also an important function of SBAS. However, the SBAS systems still have significant limitations that prevent the extension of the EGNOS system into new geographical regions and this project addresses these limitations.Within the framework of A EC-funded project, algorithms to mitigate against space weather vulnerabilities (i.e. ionisation gradients and scintillation) at both receiver and system level are investigated and prepared.From the point of view of ionization gradients, worst-case scenarios characterized through diverse datasets were prepared and used to simulate EGNOS performance at low latitudes in Africa. Furthermore, alternative methods to calculate grid corrections and errors were investigated and evaluated against the state of the art (Figure 1). Material und Methoden: Bei 89 Sprague Dawley Ratten wurden eine links parieto-temporale Kontusion appliziert. 23 Stunden nach Trauma erfolgte eine neurologische Untersuchung. Die Gehirne wurden 24 Stunden nach Trauma entnommen. Das posttraumatische Hirnödem wurde gravimetrisch anhand des Wassergehalts und der Hemisphärenschwellung bestimmt. Das Kontusionsvolumen wurde mittels TTC-Färbung planimetrisch gemessen. Die Extravasation von Evans blue wurde spektralfotometrisch quantifiziert. Die histologische Charakterisierung erfolgte anhand der Hämatoxylin/Eosin-Färbung, Bielschowsky-Färbung und Evans blue Fluoreszenzmikroskopie. In einer repräsentativen Therapiestudie mit einem 5-Hydroxytryptamin1A-Agonisten (Bay X 3702) wurden 24 Stunden nach Trauma vergleichend das Kontusionsvolumen, der Wassergehalt und die Hemisphärenschwellung bestimmt. Ergebnisse: Neurologisch zeigten sich Einschränkungen in der Spontanaktivität und der Balancierfähigkeit nach Trauma. Der posttraumatische Wassergehalt war in der traumatisierten Hemisphäre (82,5 ± 0,12%) gegenüber der Kontralateralen (79,98 ± 0,07%) signifikant erhöht. Das Kontusionsvolumen wurde mit 58,9 ± 9,1 cmm bestimmt. Histologisch zeigte sich eine kortikale hämorrhagische Nekrose. Der axonalen Schaden war auf das perikontusionelle Gewebe beschränkt. Evans blue zeigte sich perikontusionell im Intra- und Extrazellulärraum. In der Therapiestudie mit Bay X 3702 zeigten der Wassergehalt und die Hemisphärenschwellung keine signifikanten Unterschiede in den Versuchsgruppen. Using the triphenyltetrazoliumchloride (TTC) staining contusion volume was measured planimetrically. Extravasation of Evans blue was quantified sepctrophotometrically. For histological characterization hematoxylin/eosin staining, Bielschowsky staining and Evans blue fluorescence microscopy was used. In a representative study the potential neuroprotective effect of a 5-hydrxoytryptamine1A receptor agonist (Bay X 3702) on contusion volume and brain edema following CCII was determined. Results: Neurological examination showed deficits in motility and beam balance task, respectively. Posttraumatic hemispheric water content increased significantly after contusion (82.5 ± 0.12%) versus contralateral hemisphere (79.8 ± 0.08%). Posttraumatic swelling was 14.3 ± 1.2%.
