Ecosystem models can be used to understand the cumulative impacts of human pressures and environmental drivers on ecosystem structure and dynamics. Predictive modeling can show how management can influence those dynamics and structures and the ecosystem services these systems provide. Many nations and intergovernmental organizations are advocating for ecosystem-based management, often with a specific emphasis to evaluate various future management strategies. Atlantis is an end-to-end ecosystem model that is well suited for this task and has so far been developed for more than 30 diverse marine ecosystems worldwide. To provide a better understanding of the current modeling work, elicit wider interest, and foster collaboration within the Atlantis community, the first international Atlantis Summit was convened in December 2015. The main outcomes from this workshop included a clearer framework and infrastructure for model development and collaboration; the opportunity to perform common scenarios with a range of Atlantis models to analyze ecosystem responses to environmental and management-based perturbations; and the use of Atlantis as a test case for exploring the performance of single species, multispecies, and trophic food web models at an international level.

The purpose of this thesis is to (1) study and present a summary of previous investigations, by others, of vane testing equipment, and (2) utilizing the results of previous Investigations, to design and manufacture a light-weight, compact, easily operated vane testing device for quickly obtaining the shear strength of soils in situ, and with this equipment .to make such field investigations as time permitted,, It should be stated here that the equipment mentioned is limited to use in relatively soft, fine-grained soils at depths of approximately thirty feet or less, and that it operates on a strain-controlled principle., http://archive.org/details/developmentofvan1094524672, U.S. Navy (U.S.N.) authors.

Literature pertaining to the evaluation of the upper respiratory tract of the horse during exercise was reviewed. Articles were found by searching two databases. Videoendoscopy, upper airway pressure measurement and airflow measurements are used for assessing upper airway function. Treadmill accomodation and exercise protocols, examination protocols, the endoscopy technique, indications for the examination during exercise and normal and abnormal functions of the upper airways are described in pari I of this review. The most frequently observed dysfunctions are dorsal displacement of the soft palate with an incidence of 21 to 52 % and laryngeal hemiplegia with an incidence of 9 to 25 % of all upper airway obstructions. Videoendoscopy during treadmill exercise as a subjective technique can already accomplish a good evaluation of the upper airway function. But a final assessment of the presence of a respiratory limitation can only be made by the quantitative determination of upper airway flow mechanics (airway pressure and flow-volume measurement) which are presented in part II of this review

Head reprimands Townsend for leaving the camp during the Poston strike, for asking that the army be called in during the strike, and for carrying a gun and frightening other employees. Head says that he thinks Townsend should resign from his position, but says "probably it would be better inasmuch as you are working with Empie, that you discuss the matter with him."
