A Nuclide 12-90-G mass spectrometer has been modified for potential use as an ion photofragment momentum spectrometer. It is demonstrated to have the capability of resolving vibrational structure in the momentum distribution of NO(+) produced by photodissociation of N2O(+) with a detector slit width of 0.25 mm. At this slit width an ion current of 5 picoamps of Ar(+) at the detector is achievable. The operating parameters of the 3-diaphragm single lens used to generate the primary ion beam are presented in detail. (Author)
