Diese Dissertation untersucht Aspekte des Zusammenspiels von ergodischem Langzeitver- halten und der Glättungseigenschaft dynamischer Systeme, die von stochastischen Differen- tialgleichungen (SDEs) mit Sprüngen erzeugt sind. Im Speziellen werden SDEs getrieben von Lévy-Prozessen und der Marcusschen kanonischen Gleichung untersucht. Ein vari- ationeller Ansatz für den Malliavin-Kalkül liefert eine partielle Integration, sodass eine Variation im Raum in eine Variation im Wahrscheinlichkeitsmaß überführt werden kann. Damit lässt sich die starke Feller-Eigenschaft und die Existenz glatter Dichten der zuge- hörigen Markov-Halbgruppe aus einer nichtstandard Elliptizitätsbedingung an eine Kom- bination aus Gaußscher und Sprung-Kovarianz ableiten. Resultate für Sprungdiffusionen auf Untermannigfaltigkeiten werden aus dem umgebenden Euklidischen Raum hergeleitet. Diese Resultate werden dann auf zufällige dynamische Systeme angewandt, die von lin- earen stochastischen Differentialgleichungen erzeugt sind. Ruelles Integrierbarkeitsbedin- gung entspricht einer Integrierbarkeitsbedingung an das Lévy-Maß und gewährleistet die Gültigkeit von Oseledets multiplikativem Ergodentheorem. Damit folgt die Existenz eines Lyapunov-Spektrums. Schließlich wird der top Lyapunov-Exponent über eine Formel der Art von Furstenberg–Khasminsikii als ein ergodisches Mittel der infinitesimalen Wachs- tumsrate über die Einheitssphäre dargestellt., The present thesis investigates certain aspects of the interplay between the ergodic long time behavior and the smoothing property of dynamical systems generated by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with jumps, in particular SDEs driven by Lévy processes and the Marcus’ canonical equation. A variational approach to the Malliavin calculus generates an integration-by-parts formula that allows to transfer spatial variation to variation in the probability measure. The strong Feller property of the associated Markov semigroup and the existence of smooth transition densities are deduced from a non-standard ellipticity condition on a combination of the Gaussian and a jump covariance. Similar results on submanifolds are inferred from the ambient Euclidean space. These results are then applied to random dynamical systems generated by linear stochas- tic differential equations. Ruelle’s integrability condition translates into an integrability condition for the Lévy measure and ensures the validity of the multiplicative ergodic theo- rem (MET) of Oseledets. Hence the exponential growth rate is governed by the Lyapunov spectrum. Finally the top Lyapunov exponent is represented by a formula of Furstenberg– Khasminskii–type as an ergodic average of the infinitesimal growth rate over the unit sphere.

Building on the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and Gigabit PON (GPON) standards, Next-Generation (NG) PONs (i) provide increased data rates, split ratios, wavelengths counts, and fiber lengths, as well as (ii) allow for all-optical integration of access and metro networks. In this paper we provide a comprehensive probabilistic analysis of the capacity (maximum mean packet throughput) and packet delay of subnetworks that can be used to form NG-PONs. Our analysis can cover a wide range of NG-PONs through taking the minimum capacity of the subnetworks making up the NG-PON and weighing the packet delays of the subnetworks. Our numerical and simulation results indicate that our analysis quite accurately characterizes the throughput-delay performance of EPON/GPON tree networks, including networks upgraded with higher data rates and wavelength counts. Our analysis also characterizes the trade-offs and bottlenecks when integrating EPON/GPON tree networks across a metro area with a ring, a Passive Star Coupler (PSC), or an Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) for uniform and non-uniform traffic. Packet-switching WDM ring networks with a hotspot transporting unicast, multicast, and broadcast traffic are important components of high-speed metropolitan area networks. For an arbitrary multicast fanout traffic model with uniform, hotspot destination, and hotspot source packet traffic, we analyze the maximum achievable long-run average packet throughput, which we refer to as \textit{multicast capacity}, of bi-directional shortest-path routed WDM rings. We identify three segments that can experience the maximum utilization, and thus, limit the multicast capacity. We characterize the segment utilization probabilities through bounds and approximations, which we verify through simulations. We discover that shortest-path routing can lead to utilization probabilities above one half for moderate to large portions of hotspot source multi- and broadcast traffic, and consequently multicast capacities of less than two simultaneous packet transmissions. We outline a one-copy routing strategy that guarantees a multicast capacity of at least two simultaneous packet transmissions for arbitrary hotspot source traffic.

Diese Arbeit behandelt die Asymptotik von Austritts- und Übergangszeiten für gewisse schwach zeitinhomogene Diffusionsprozesse. Darauf basierend wird ein probabilistischer Begriff der stochastischen Resonanz (SR) studiert. Techniken der großen Abweichungen spielen eine zentrale Rolle. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit (Kapitel 1-3) werden Resultate aus der Theorie der großen Abweichungen für zeithomogene Diffusionen rekapituliert. Es werden die klassischen Resultate von Freidlin und Wentzell und Erweiterungen dieser Theorie präsentiert, und es wird an das Kramers''sche Austrittszeitengesetz erinnert. Teil II befasst sich mit dem Phänomen der SR, d.h. mit Periodizitätseigenschaften von Diffusionen. In Kapitel 4 werden physikalische Maße zur Messung der Periodizität diskutiert. Deren Nachteile legen es nahe, einem alternativen, probabilistischen Ansatz zu folgen, der hier behandelt wird. Das 5. Kapitel dient der Herleitung eines gleichmäßigen Prinzips der großen Abweichungen für Diffusionen mit schwach zeitabhängigem, periodischem Drift. Die Gleichmäßigkeit des Prinzips ermöglicht die exakte Bestimmung exponentieller Übergangsraten in Kapitel 6, das die zentralen Ergebnisse des 2. Teils beinhaltet. Hierdurch wird die Maximierung gewisser Übergangswahrscheinlichkeiten ermöglicht, was zum in Kapitel 7 studierten Resonanzbegriff führt. Teil III der Arbeit setzt sich mit der Asymptotik von Austrittszeiten sogenannter selbststabilisierender Diffusionen auseinander. In Kapitel 8 wird der Zusammenhang zwischen interagierenden Teilchensystemen und selbststabilisierenden Diffusionen erläutert und die Existenz- und Eindeutigkeitsfrage behandelt. Das 9. Kapitel dient dem Studium der großen Abweichungen dieser Klasse von Diffusionen. In Kapitel 10 wird das Kramers''sche Austrittszeitengesetz auf selbststabilisierende Diffusionen übertragen, und in Kapitel 11 wird der Einfluß der selbststabilisierenden Komponente auf das Austrittszeitengesetz illustriert., In this thesis, we study the asymptotic behavior of exit and transition times of certain weakly time inhomogeneous diffusion processes. Based on these asymptotics, a probabilistic notion of stochastic resonance (SR) is investigated. Large deviations techniques play the key role throughout this work. In the first part (Chapters 1-3) we recall the large deviations theory for time homogeneous diffusions. We present the classical results due to Freidlin and Wentzell and extensions thereof, and we remind of Kramers'' exit time law. Part II deals with the phenomenon of stochastic resonance. That is, we study periodicity properties of diffusion processes. In Chapter 4 we explain the paradigm of stochastic resonance and discuss physical notions of measuring periodicity of diffusions. Their drawbacks suggest to follow an alternative probabilistic approach, which is treated in this work. In Chapter 5 we derive a large deviations principle for diffusions subject to a weakly time dependent periodic drift term. The uniformity of the obtained large deviations bounds w.r.t. the system''s parameters plays a key role for the treatment of transition time asymptotics in Chapter 6, which contains the main result of the second part. The exact exponential transition rates obtained here allow for maximizing transition probabilities, which finally leads to the announced probabilistic notion of resonance studied in Chapter 7. In the third part we investigate the exit time asymptotics of a certain class of so-called self-stabilizing diffusions. In Chapter 8 we explain the connection between interacting particle systems and self-stabilizing diffusions, and we address the question of existence. The following Chapter 9 is devoted to the study of the large deviations behavior of these diffusions. In Chapter 10 Kramers'' exit law is carried over to our class of self-stabilizing diffusions. Finally, the influence of self-stabilization is illustrated in Chapter 11.

There is a long-standing conjecture of Nussbaum which asserts that every finite set in R-n on which a cyclic group of sup-norm isometries acts transitively contains at most 2(n) points. The existing evidence supporting Nussbaum's conjecture only uses abelian properties of the group. It has therefore been suggested that Nussbaum's conjecture might hold more generally for abelian groups of sup-norm isometries. This paper provides evidence supporting this stronger conjecture. Among other results, we show that it, Gamma is an abelian group of sup-norm isometrics that acts transitively on a finite set X in R-n and Gamma contains no anticlockwise additive chains, then X has at most 2(n) points.

Wir nehmen an, dass eine Trajektorie (X(t), -r 0, konvergiert. Diese Rate ist schlechter als in vielen klassischen Fällen. Wir beweisen jedoch eine untere Schranke, die zeigt, dass keine Schätzung eine bessere Rate im Minimax-Sinn aufweisen kann. Für zeit-diskrete Beobachtungen von maximalem Abstand Delta konvergiert die Galerkin-Schätzung immer noch mit obiger Rate, sofern Delta is in etwa von der Ordnung T^(-1/2). Hingegen wird bewiesen, dass für festes Delta unabhängig von T die Rate sich signifikant verschlechtern muss, indem eine untere Schranke von T^(-s/(2s+6)) gezeigt wird. Außerdem wird eine adaptive Schätzung basierend auf Wavelet-Thresholding-Techniken für das assoziierte schlechtgestellte Problem konstruiert. Diese nichtlineare Schätzung erreicht die obige Minimax-Rate sogar für die allgemeinere Klasse der Besovräume B^s_(p,infinity) mit p>max(6/(2s+3),1). Die Restriktion p>=max(6/(2s+3),1) muss für jede Schätzung gelten und ist damit inhärent mit dem Schätzproblem verknüpft. Schließlich wird ein Hypothesentest mit nichtparametrischer Alternative vorgestellt, der zum Beispiel für das Testen auf Gedächtnis verwendet werden kann. Dieser Test ist anwendbar für eine L^2-Trennungsrate zwischen Hypothese und Alternative der Ordnung T^(-s/(2s+2.5)). Diese Rate ist wiederum beweisbar optimal für jede mögliche Teststatistik. Für die Beweise müssen die Parameterabhängigkeit der stationären Lösungen sowie die Abbildungseigenschaften der assoziierten Kovarianzoperatoren detailliert bestimmt werden. Furthermore, we construct an adaptive estimator by applying wavelet thresholding techniques to the corresponding ill-posed inverse problem. This nonlinear estimator attains the above minimax rate even for more general classes of Besov spaces B^s_(p,infinity) with p>max(6/(2s+3),1). The restriction p >= 6/(2s+3) is shown to hold for any estimator, hence to be inherently associated with the estimation problem. Finally, a hypothesis test with a nonparametric alternative is constructed that could for instance serve to decide whether a trajectory has been generated by a stationary process with or without time delay. The test works for an L^2-separation rate between hypothesis and alternative of order T^(-s/(2s+2.5)). This rate is again shown to be optimal among all conceivable tests. For the proofs, the parameter dependence of the stationary solutions has to be studied in detail and the mapping properties of the associated covariance operators have to be determined exactly. Für zufällige dynamische Systeme mit stetiger Zeit existieren zwei wichtige Klassen von Generatoren: Zum einen stationäre zufällige ifferentialgleichungen, i.e. gewöhnliche Differentialgleichungen, die von einem stationärer zufälligen Vektorfeld getrieben werden, und zum anderen stochastische Stratonovichdifferentialgleichungen mit weißem Rauschen. Während die erste Klasse sich gut in den ergodentheoretischen Rahmen der Theorie der zufälligen dynamischen Systeme einfügt, widersetzte sich die zweite Klasse lange Zeit der dynamischen Untersuchung aufgrund des "Konflikts zwischen Ergodentheorie und stochastischer Analysis". In dieser Arbeit wird gezeigt, daß beide Klassen von zufälligen dynamischen Systemen nicht wesentlich verschieden sind, genauer: Zu jeder stochastischen Stratonovichdifferentialgleichung mit weißem Rauschen (unter den üblichen Regularitätsforderungen an die Vektorfelder, die die Existenz von Flüssen garantieren) existiert eine stationäre zufällige Differentialgleichung derart, daß die erzeugten zufälligen dynamischen Systeme konjugiert sind. Als Anwendung wird eine Version des lokalen Linearisierungssatzes von Hartman/Grobman für stochastische Stratonovichdifferentialgleichungen bewiesen., For continuous time random dynamical systems there exist two important classes of generators: on the one hand stationary random differential quations, i.e. ordinary differential equations driven by a stationary random vector field, and on the other hand stochastic Stratonovich differential equations with white noise. While the first class fits well into the framework of the theory of random dynamical systems, the second class resisted for a long time the dynamical investigation due to the "conflict between ergodic theory and stochastic analysis". The main result of this thesis is that both classes of random dynamical systems are not essentially distinct, more precisely: For each stochastic Stratonovich differential equation with white noise (under usual regularity assumptions) there exists a stationary random differential equation such that the corresponding random dynamical systems are conjugate. As an application a version of the local Hartman/Grobman theorem for stochastic differential equations is proved.
