The NMDARs are key players in both physiological and pathologic synaptic plasticity because of their involvement in many aspects of neuronal transmission as well as learning and memory. The contribution in these events of different types of GluN2A-interacting proteins is still unclear. The p140Cap scaffold protein acts as a hub for postsynaptic complexes relevant to psychiatric and neurologic disorders and regulates synaptic functions, such as the stabilization of mature dendritic spine, memory consolidation, LTP, and LTD. Here we demonstrate that p140Cap directly binds the GluN2A subunit of NMDAR and modulates GluN2A-associated molecular network. Indeed, in p140Cap KO male mice, GluN2A is less associated with PSD95 both in ex vivo synaptosomes and in cultured hippocampal neurons, and p140Cap expression in KO neurons can rescue GluN2A and PSD95 colocalization. p140Cap is crucial in the recruitment of GluN2A-containing NMDARs and, consequently, in regulating NMDARs’ intrinsic properties. p140Cap is associated to synaptic lipid-raft (LR) and to soluble postsynaptic membranes, and GluN2A and PSD95 are less recruited into synaptic LR of p140Cap KO male mice. Gated-stimulated emission depletion microscopy on hippocampal neurons confirmed that p140Cap is required for embedding GluN2A clusters in LR in an activity-dependent fashion. In the synaptic compartment, p140Cap influences the association between GluN2A and PSD95 and modulates GluN2A enrichment into LR. Overall, such increase in these membrane domains rich in signaling molecules results in improved signal transduction efficiency.

This paper aims to assess changes in the patterns of marine fish consumption by hunter-fisher-gatherer populations in the context of environmental change. To accomplish this objective, we used two methodological approaches: first, stable isotope analysis in ancient and modern shells of limpets and mussels to explore changes in the isotopic baseline and also in fish skeletal remains recovered from different archaeological sites dated to the Middle and Late Holocene of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina); second, a zooarchaeological quantitative analysis of the fish remains from different archaeological sites in the same area and period. Results confirmed that marine primary productivity in the Atlantic coast of Tierra del Fuego decreased throughout the second half of the Holocene, while the contribution of phytoplankton to the carbon pool fueling the coastal food web decreased simultaneously. The quantitative zooarchaeological analysis and the stable isotope analyses in fish remains suggest that in the Atlantic coast there was a variation in the consumption of fish species from offshore to near shore fish species throughout time, mostly because of the declining occurrence of Argentine hake (Merluccius hubbsi). This could result from changes in the distribution of the latter and the probability of mass stranding

When we use a handheld tool to contact an object, we feel the touch on the tool and not in the hand holding the tool. The ability to perceive touch on a tool actually extends along its entire surface, allowing the user to accurately localize where it is touched similarly as they would on their body. Although the neural mechanisms underlying the ability to localize touch on the body have been largely investigated, those allowing to localize touch on a tool are still unknown. We aimed to fill this gap by recording the electroencephalography signal of participants while they localized tactile stimuli on a handheld rod. We focused on oscillatory activity in the alpha (7-14 Hz) and beta (15-30 Hz) ranges, as they have been previously linked to distinct spatial codes used to localize touch on the body. Beta activity reflects the mapping of touch in skin-based coordinates, whereas alpha activity reflects the mapping of touch in external space. We found that alpha activity was solely modulated by the location of tactile stimuli applied on a handheld rod. Source reconstruction suggested that this alpha power modulation was localized in a network of fronto-parietal regions previously implicated in higher-order tactile and spatial processing. These findings are the first to implicate alpha oscillations in tool-extended sensing and suggest an important role for processing touch in external space when localizing touch on a tool.

This article aims to introduce the impacts of the courser’s postgraduate requirements on the postgraduate Quality of Life (QL), infer possible impacts and suggestions for referrals. This is an excerpt from an investigation that focused on the training of teachers for higher education, from different angles, approaching results from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. It had as participants a sample (27.12% of the universe) of students entering a postgraduate program in Science and Mathematics Teaching, a reference in the area. The constitution of the data was made at the end of 2019 based on a questionnaire WHOQOL-BREF, validated by the World Health Organization, and by field notes constituted in one offered disciplined. Checked that the QL of the participants: which can be considered a median, close to 60 points (1 to 100); with men's indicators smaller than those offering women's; most had of them felt pain and were using medication and presented difficulties in carrying out daily activities; productivism, the time elements factor, among others, are part of the stressors elements. It is argued that hat programs/universities that monitor these movements need to articulate with the regulatory agencies, improve rating criteria instruments and use welcoming activities targeting students, minimizing stressors in the environment, Este artigo visa discutir os impactos das exigências dos cursos de pós-graduação sobre a Qualidade de Vida (QV) de alunos, inferir possíveis impactos e sugestões de encaminhamentos. Trata-se de um excerto de uma investigação que teve como foco a formação de docentes para o ensino superior, sob diferentes ângulos, abordando resultados numa perspectiva qualiquantitativa. Teve como participantes uma amostra (27,12% do universo) de alunos ingressantes num programa de pós-graduação em Ensino de Ciências e Matemática, referência na área. Os dados foram constituídos no final de 2019 a partir da aplicação de questionário WHOQOL-BREF, validado pela Organização Mundial da Saúde, e análise de notas de campo constituídas durante uma disciplina ofertada pelo programa. Verificou-se que a QV dos entrevistados pode ser considerada mediana: próxima a 60 pontos (1 a 100), sendo os indicadores dos homens menores que os das mulheres; a maioria dos entrevistados sentia dor e desconforto, fazendo uso de medicamentos; apresentava dificuldades na realização de atividades cotidianas; o produtivismo, o fator tempo, dentre outros, fazem parte dos elementos estressores. Defende-se que os programas/universidades devam propor movimentos articulados junto às agências reguladoras, visando melhoria dos instrumentos e critérios avaliativos, além de atividades de acolhimento, buscando acompanhar os alunos e minimizar os fatores estressores no ambiente acadêmico.

Space coding affects perception of stimuli associated to negative valence: threatening stimuli presented within the peripersonal space (PPS) speed up behavioral responses compared with nonthreatening events. However, it remains unclear whether the association between stimuli and their negative valence is acquired in a body part-centered reference system, a main feature of the PPS coding. Here we test the hypothesis that associative learning takes place in hand-centered coordinates and can therefore remap according to hand displacement. In two experiments, we used a Pavlovian fear-learning paradigm to associate a visual stimulus [light circle, the conditioned stimulus (CS)] with an aversive stimulus (electrocutaneous shock) applied on the right hand only when the CS was displayed close (CS+) but when not far from it (CS−). Measuring the skin conductance response (SCR), we observed successful fear conditioning, with increased anticipatory fear responses associated with CS+. Crucially, experiment I showed a remapping of these responses following hand displacement, with a generalization to both types of CS. Experiment II corroborated and further extended our findings by ruling out the novelty of the experimental context as a driving factor of such modulations. Indeed, fear responses were present only for stimuli within the PPS but not for new stimuli displayed outside the PPS. By revealing a hand-centered (re)mapping of the conditioning effect, these findings indicate that associative learning can arise in hand-centered coordinates. They further suggest that the threatening valence of an object also depends on its basic spatial relationship with our body.

Peripersonal space (PPS) is a multisensory representation of the space near body parts facilitating interactions with the close environment. Studies on non-human and human primates agree in showing that PPS is a body part-centered representation that guides actions. Because of these characteristics, growing confusion surrounds peripersonal and arm-reaching space (ARS), that is the space one’s arm can reach. Despite neuroanatomical evidence favoring their distinction, no study has contrasted directly their respective extent and behavioral features. Here, in five experiments (N = 140) we found that PPS differs from ARS, as evidenced both by participants’ spatial and temporal performance and by its modeling. We mapped PPS and ARS using both their respective gold standard tasks and a novel multisensory facilitation paradigm. Results show that: (1) PPS is smaller than ARS; (2) multivariate analyses of spatial patterns of multisensory facilitation predict participants’ hand locations within ARS; and (3) the multisensory facilitation map shifts isomorphically following hand positions, revealing hand-centered coding of PPS, therefore pointing to a functional similarity to the receptive fields of monkeys’ multisensory neurons. A control experiment further corroborated these results and additionally ruled out the orienting of attention as the driving mechanism for the increased multisensory facilitation near the hand. In sharp contrast, ARS mapping results in a larger spatial extent, with undistinguishable patterns across hand positions, cross-validating the conclusion that PPS and ARS are distinct spatial representations. These findings show a need for refinement of theoretical models of PPS, which is relevant to constructs as diverse as self-representation, social interpersonal distance, and motor control.

History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) have been pointed out as essential to scientific understanding. The Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) is the new document that structures the country's Basic Education. In this sense, the article aims to understand the presence of HPS in this document regarding its Natural Sciences section for Elementary Education and High School. The data were analyzed using Content Analysis and the results indicate that there is an inconsistency between the historiographic lines adopted in the introductory texts and in the competences and skills of each stage. Therefore, it is concluded that a more consistent basis for HPS in BNCC is necessary, so that it doesn’t become another obstacle to the insertion of this type of approach and, consequently, contributes to the dissemination of inadequate views about the Nature of Science., A História e Filosofia da Ciência (HFC) vêm sendo apontadas como fundamentais para a compreensão científica. A Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) é o novo documento que estrutura a Educação Básica do país. Neste sentido, o artigo visa compreender a presença da HFC neste documento, no que diz respeito às Ciências da Natureza do Ensino Fundamental e Médio. Os dados foram analisados por meio da Análise de Conteúdo e os resultados indicam que existe uma incoerência entre as linhas historiográficas adotadas nos textos introdutórios e nas competências e habilidades de cada etapa. Sendo assim, conclui-se que é necessária uma fundamentação mais consistente da HFC na BNCC, a fim de que ela não se torne mais um dificultador da inserção desse tipo de abordagem e, consequentemente, contribua para uma disseminação de visões inadequadas sobre a Natureza da Ciência (NdC).

Instead, we observed no kinematic modifications in the control condition. In addition, online proprioception acuity correlated with tool incorporation, as indexed by the amount of kinematics changes observed after tool-use. Altogether, these findings point to the prominent role played by online proprioception in updating the body estimate for the motor control of tools.

Apresentação

O artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre alguns aspectos teóricos acerca da condição da docência e dos docentes universitários, seus saberes, seu trabalho e as relações construídas historicamente com esse fazer. Apresentamos um percurso da consolidação do ideário da universidade pública brasileira e os desdobramentos na costura da docência universitária como condição diferenciada para se realizar o trabalho, entendido por nós como sendo o ambiente de desenvolver-se profissionalmente, ao mesmo tempo em que é o lócus provocador de mudança da própria universidade, da própria condição docente e de sua relação com a sociedade. O projeto inacabado de universidade pública brasileira está sujeito, mais uma vez, ao enfrentamento da lógica do neoliberalismo, de aligeirar-se, despir-se de tempo para conhecimento, para produção, para qualidade do fazer pedagógico, na medida que sua pouca autonomia conquistada começa a ser retirada através do falso discurso da não ou da baixa produtividade a serviço do mercado e das demandas do capital não atendidas. O impacto dessas ameaças está diretamente ligado à conformação que a docência assume e submete-se para tentar sobreviver. Professores cansados, desanimados, produzindo, muitas vezes, trabalhos com qualidade duvidosa e submetendo-se às péssimas condições de trabalho, salários que não correspondem com a condição e exigência da profissão, ou, ainda, editais que nem sempre aportam recursos que validem um montante significativo de financiamento para pesquisa e ou para o aumento no número de pesquisadores, põem a mostra da realidade atual, que carece de mudanças conceituais sobre o que é a universidade e de suas condições para construir a docência universitária. &nbsp

A docência no Ensino Superior tem sido foco de interesse de pesquisadores da área de Ensino e Educação. Este artigo discute o perfil feminino em um curso de Pós-Graduação em Educação para Ciência e a empregabilidade deste público no ensino superior, analisando os dados à luz de outras pesquisas na área. Para tanto foi feito um levantamento em quatro revistas da área, com o intuito de identificar discussões relativas a essa temática. Usando descritores com foco na docência no ensino superior, 39 foram os trabalhos localizados e, após uma leitura mais aprofundada, apenas seis deles atendiam aos critérios estabelecidos. A seguir, foi feito um recorte nos dados apresentados em uma pesquisa realizada por Audi (2018), visando identificar qual o perfil profissional das mulheres formadas pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação para Ciências, da Unesp-Bauru/SP, de 1997 a 2016, além de um levantamentos junto à Plataforma Lattes buscando saber onde estas mulheres trabalham hoje. Durante o período analisado foram formados 524 novos pesquisadores, sendo 357 no mestrado (224 mulheres) e 167 no doutorado (52 mulheres). Os dados obtidos apontam que 88,58% delas atuam na área educacional, sendo que 75% das egressas trabalham em instituições de ensino superior públicas, como docentes/pesquisadoras. Conclui-se, entre outros pontos, que o programa analisado propicia uma formação de qualidade e que isso possibilita a inserção dos formandos no mercado de trabalho. Também apontamos que o quadro de docentes do programa (40) é composto por 21 mulheres (52,5%) de mulheres, sendo que oito delas (38,09%) foram formadas no próprio programa.

Here we report that in patients with ERBB2-amplified breast cancer, a p140Cap-positive status associates with a significantly lower probability of developing a distant event, and a clear difference in survival. p140Cap dampens ERBB2-positive tumour cell progression, impairing tumour onset and growth in the NeuT mouse model, and counteracting epithelial mesenchymal transition, resulting in decreased metastasis formation. One major mechanism is the ability of p140Cap to interfere with ERBB2-dependent activation of Rac GTPase-controlled circuitries. Our findings point to a specific role of p140Cap in curbing the aggressiveness of ERBB2-amplified breast cancers and suggest that, due to its ability to impinge on specific molecular pathways, p140Cap may represent a predictive biomarker of response to targeted anti-ERBB2 therapies

DarkSide is a dark matter direct search experiment at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS). DarkSide is based on the detection of rare nuclear recoils possibly induced by hypothetical dark matter particles, which are supposed to be neutral, massive (m > 10 GeV) and weakly interactive (WIMP). The dark matter detector is a two-phase time projection chamber (TPC) filled with ultra-pure liquid argon. The TPC is placed inside a muon and a neutron active vetoes to suppress the background. Using argon as active target has many advantages, the key features are the strong discriminant power between nuclear and electron recoils, the spatial reconstruction and easy scalability to multi-tons size. At the moment DarkSide-50 is filled with ultra-pure argon, extracted from underground sources, and from April 2015 it is taking data in its final configuration. When combined with the preceding search with an atmospheric argon target, it is possible to set a 90% CL upper limit on the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross section of 2.0×10 -44 cm2 for a WIMP mass of 100 GeV/c2. The next phase of the experiment, DarkSide-20k, will be the construction of a new detector with an active mass of ∼ 20 tons.

To this aim, the present study combined behavior, electrophysiology and neuronal modeling to characterize how the human brain could treat a tool like an extended sensory "organ." As with the body, participants localize touches on a hand-held tool with near-perfect accuracy [7]. This behavior is owed to the ability of the somatosensory system to rapidly and efficiently use the tool as a tactile extension of the body. Using electroencephalography (EEG), we found that where a hand-held tool was touched was immediately coded in the neural dynamics of primary somatosensory and posterior parietal cortices of healthy participants. We found similar neural responses in a proprioceptively deafferented patient with spared touch perception, suggesting that location information is extracted from the rod's vibrational patterns. Simulations of mechanoreceptor responses [8] suggested that the speed at which these patterns are processed is highly efficient. A second EEG experiment showed that touches on the tool and arm surfaces were localized by similar stages of cortical processing. Multivariate decoding algorithms and cortical source reconstruction provided further evidence that early limb-based processes were repurposed to map touch on a tool. We propose that an elementary strategy the human brain uses to sense with tools is to recruit primary somatosensory dynamics otherwise devoted to the body.
