Abstract: In an era marked by rapid global changes, the reinforcement and modernization of plant health surveillance systems have become imperative. Sixty-five scientists present here a research agenda for an enhanced and modernized plant health surveillance to anticipate and mitigate disease and pest emergence. Our approach integrates a wide range of scientific fields (from life, social, physical and engineering sciences) and identifies the key knowledge gaps, focusing on anticipation, risk assessment, early detection, and multi-actor collaboration. The research directions we propose are organized around four complementary thematic axes. The first axis is the anticipation of pest emergence, encompassing innovative forecasting, adaptive potential, and the effects of climatic and cropping system changes. The second axis addresses the use of versatile broad-spectrum surveillance tools, including molecular or imaging diagnostics supported by artificial intelligence, and monitoring generic matrices such as air and water. The third axis focuses on surveillance of known pests from new perspectives, i.e., using novel approaches to detect known species but also anticipating and detecting, within a species, the populations or genotypes that pose a higher risk. The fourth axis advocates the management of plant health as a commons through the establishment of multi-actor and cooperative surveillance systems for long-term data-driven alert systems and information dissemination. We stress the importance of integrating data and information from multiple sources through open science databases and metadata, alongside developing methods for interpolating and extrapolating incomplete data. 2. T-odd gluon distribution functions in a spectator model

Abstract: We present a model calculation of T-odd transverse-momentum-dependent distributions of gluons in the nucleon. The model is based on the assumption that a nucleon can emit a gluon, and what remains after the emission is treated as a single spectator particle. This spectator particle is considered to be on-shell, but its mass is allowed to take a continuous range of values, described by a spectral function. 3. A speech-to-symbol app for supporting communication partner to model and improve vocabulary

Abstract: In order to meet the communication needs of individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, communication partners are often responsible for the programming of the AAC devices. However, the prolonged learning time and operational demands of AAC devices are often barriers to an efficient use of time during a therapy session. We developed a prototype app for iPad, called Speech-to-Symbol that decreases the programming time by finding pictures stored in the app using speech-to-text technology. We compared our solution to the TalkTablet app during AAC sessions with children with different communication disabilities. The aims of this study were 1) to compare the time to program both apps, 2) to identify the type of vocabulary used, and 3) to assess the usability of the two apps. Results showed that the reduced operational demands of our Speech-to-Symbols app allow communication partners to expose children to a larger and more diverse vocabulary. In addition, the communication partners gave our Speech-to-Symbols app a higher usability rating. Implications for clinical and educational settings and directions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract: Cervico-vaginal (CV) localization of extra-mammary Paget’s disease (EMPD) of the vulva is extremely rare. In order to investigate the incidence risk and the pathognomonic clinical and pathological features of this condition, a retrospective analysis was conducted including 94 women treated for vulvar EMPD at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy, from October 1997 to May 2020. Overall nine patients developed CV involvement from EMPD, with a cumulative incidence of 2.5% (95% CI: 0.5–8.0%) at 5 years, 6.5% (95% CI: 1.9–15.1%) at 10 years and 14.0% (95% CI: 4.8–27.8%) at 15 years, respectively. All cases except one were firstly detected by abnormal glandular cytology. None reported vaginal bleeding or other suspicious symptoms. The colposcopic findings were heterogeneous and could sometimes be misdiagnosed. Cervical and/or vaginal biopsies were always performed for histopathological diagnosis by identification of Paget cells in the epithelium or stroma. Most patients developed invasive EMPD (5/9) of the cervix and/or vagina and underwent hysterectomy with partial or total colpectomy. CV involvement from EMPD should not be underestimated in women with a long-standing history of vulvar Paget’s disease. Liquid-based cytology with immunocytochemistry represents a valuable tool for early diagnosis and should be routinely performed during the required lifelong follow-up.

Abstract: Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is phenotypically heterogeneous in motor manifestations, and the extent of upper vs. lower motor neuron involvement is a widespread descriptor. This study aimed to examine cognition across different ALS motor phenotypes. Methods: ALS patients (N = 124) were classified as classical (N = 66), bulbar (N = 13), predominant-upper motor neuron (PUMN; N = 19), and predominant-lower motor neuron (PLMN; N = 26) phenotypes. Cognition was assessed with the Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioural ALS Screen (ECAS) and function with the ALS Functional Rating Scale—Revised (ALSFRS-R). Revised ALS-FTD consensus criteria were applied for cognitive/behavioral phenotyping. Results: Defective ECAS-total scores were detected in all groups — bulbar: 15.4%, classical: 30.3%, PLMN: 23.1%, and PUMN: 36.8%. Classical and PUMN ALS patients performed worse than PLMN ones on ECAS-total, ALS-specific, Fluency, and Executive measures. No other difference was detected. Worse ASLFRS-R scores correlated with poorer ECAS-total scores in classical ALS patients. Conclusions: Frontotemporal cognitive deficits are more prevalent in PUMN and classical ALS and linked to disease severity in the latter, but occur also in PLMN phenotypes.

7. The diagnostic value of the Italian version of the Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioral ALS Screen (ECAS)

Abstract: Objectives: The diagnostic capabilities of specific cognitive screeners are clinically crucial for an early detection of frontotemporal features in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. This study aimed at providing diagnostic properties of the cognitive section of the Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioral ALS Screen (ECAS) in Italian ALS patients. Methods: Eighty-nine consecutive Italian ALS patients were classified according to Strong et al. (2017) criteria with a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. The Italian version of ECAS was also administered, and its accuracy, sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP), negative and positive predictive values (PPV; NPV) and likelihood ratios (LR+; LR-) were computed against clinical diagnoses. Results: The ECAS and its subscales yielded moderate-to-high accuracy (AUC =.7–.87). High SP was overall found (81.8%–100%). The most sensitive measures were ALS-specific and Executive (73.9–78.3%) subscales, while the least were the ALS-non-specific subscales (8.7–17.4%). ECAS measures showed good PPVs (60%–100%) and NPVs (75.9%–91.5%). Acceptable LRs were found (LR+: 6.97–4.3; LR–:.29–.91), with total and ALS-specific measures yielding the best estimates. Conclusions: This is the first study demonstrating the diagnostic value of the ECAS against a thorough neuropsychological assessment in Italy. ECAS-total and -ALS-specific scores are diagnostically sound as to both intrinsic and post-test features, whereas ALS-non-specific measures perform slightly worse.

Abstract: Background: Episodic long-term memory (LTM) difficulties/deficits are frequent in COVID-19-recovered patients and negatively impact on prognosis and outcome. However, little is known about their semiology and prevalence, also being still debated whether they arise from primary amnesic features or are secondary to dysexecutive/inattentive processes and disease-related/premorbid status. Hence, this study aimed at (1) assessing LTM functioning in post-infectious SARS-CoV-2 patients by accounting for premorbid and disease-related confounders and (2) exploring its cognitive etiology. Methods: Measures of global cognition (Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)) and LTM (Babcock Memory Test (BMT)) of fifty-four COVID-19-recovered patients were retrospectively collected. Patients were subdivided into those being already at risk or not for cognitive decline (RCD + ; RCD −). Cognitive measures were converted into equivalent scores (ESs). Results: LTM sub-clinical/clinical deficits (ESs = 0/1) were mildly-to-moderately prevalent in both RCD + (MoCA-Memory, 31.8%; BMT, 31.8%) and RCD − (MoCA-Memory, 28.6%; BMT, 39.3%) patients. MMSE and MoCA total scores, but not the MoCA-Attention subtest, were associated with the BMT. RCD + asymptomatic patients performed better on the BMT (p =.033) than those requiring O2 therapy (but not ventilation). Discussion: COVID-19-recovered individuals might show LTM deficits of both primary and secondary etiology and should be thus screened for them, especially those having suffered mid-to-moderate COVID-19 and those already being at risk for cognitive decline. Both I- and II-level measures of verbal LTM can be adopted, although the former might be more sensitive.

Abstract: Background: The novel human coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) shows neurotropism and systemically affects the central nervous system (CNS). Cognitive deficits have been indeed reported as both short- and long-term sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, the association between these disturbances and background/disease-related clinical features remains elusive. This work aimed at exploring how post-infective cognitive status relates to clinical/treatment outcomes by controlling for premorbid/current risk factors for cognitive deficits. Methods: Cognitive measures (Mini-Mental State Examination, MMSE) of N=152 COVID-19 patient were retrospectively assessed in relation to disease severity, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, steroidal treatment, and occurrence of other viral/bacterial infections by controlling for remote/recent/COVID-19-related risk factors for cognitive deficits (at-risk vs. not-at-risk: Neuro+ vs. Neuro−). Results: Descriptively, impaired MMSE performances were highly prevalent in mild-to-moderate patients (26.3%). ICU-admitted patients made less errors (p=.021) on the MMSE than those not admitted when partialling out risk factors and age—the latter negatively influencing performances. When addressing Neuro− patients only, steroidal treatment appears to improve MMSE scores among those suffering from other infections (p=.025). Discussion: Cognitive sequelae of COVID-19 are likely to arise from a complex interplay between background/clinical premorbid features and disease-related/interventional procedures and outcomes. Mild-to-moderate patients requiring assistive ventilation who however are not admitted to an ICU are more likely to suffer from cognitive deficits—despite their etiology remaining elusive.

Abstract: Background: Due to SARS-CoV-2-related encephalopathic features, COVID-19 patients may show cognitive sequelae that negatively affect functional outcomes. However, although cognitive screening has been recommended in recovered individuals, little is known about which instruments are suitable to this scope by also accounting for clinical status. This study thus aimed at comparatively assessing the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in detecting cognitive deficits in post-COVID-19 patients premorbidly/contextually being or not at risk for cognitive deficits (RCD + ; RCD-). Methods: Data from N = 100 COVID-19-recovered individuals having been administered both the MMSE and the MoCA were retrospectively analyzed separately for each group. RCD ± classification was performed by taking into consideration both previous and disease-related conditions. Equivalent scores (ESs) were adopted to examine classification performances of the two screeners. Results: The two groups were comparable as for most background and cognitive measures. MMSE or MoCA adjusted scores were mostly unrelated to disease-related features. The two screeners yielded similar estimates of below-cut-off performances—RCD + : MMSE: 20%, MoCA: 23.6%; RCD-: MMSE: 2.2%, MoCA: 4.4%. However, agreement rates dropped when also addressing borderline, “low-end” normal, and normal ability categories—with the MoCA attributing lower levels than the MMSE (RCD + : Cohen’s k =.47; RCD-: Cohen’s k =.17). Discussion: Although both the MMSE and the MoCA proved to be equally able to detect severe cognitive sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection in both RCD + and RCD- patients, the MoCA appeared to be able to reveal sub-clinical defects and more sharply discriminate between different levels of ability.

Abstract: We outline the physics opportunities provided by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). These include the study of the parton structure of the nucleon and nuclei, the onset of gluon saturation, the production of jets and heavy flavor, hadron spectroscopy and tests of fundamental symmetries. We review the present status and future challenges in EIC theory that have to be addressed in order to realize this ambitious and impactful physics program, including how to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to address these many-fold challenges, we propose a coordinated effort involving theory groups with differing expertise is needed. Abstract: This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. Abstract: We outline the physics opportunities provided by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). These include the study of the parton structure of the nucleon and nuclei, the onset of gluon saturation, the production of jets and heavy flavor, hadron spectroscopy and tests of fundamental symmetries. We review the present status and future challenges in EIC theory that have to be addressed in order to realize this ambitious and impactful physics program, including how to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to address these many-fold challenges, we propose a coordinated effort involving theory groups with differing expertise is needed. Abstract: We describe the formal analogies in the description of the inclusive production in hard processes of hadron pairs (based on dihadron fragmentation functions) and of a single hadron inside a jet (based on hadron-in-jet fragmentation functions). Abstract: We include strong parity-violating contributions to inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of longitudinally polarized leptons off an unpolarized target. At variance with standard results, we obtain nonvanishing parity-violating structure functions in the case of pure photon exchange. The addition of these strong parity-violating contributions improves the description of existing experimental data on DIS parity violating asymmetries. Abstract: This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. 17. Signals of strong parity violation in deep inelastic scattering

Abstract: We include strong parity-violating contributions to inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of longitudinally polarized leptons off an unpolarized target. At variance with standard results, we obtain nonvanishing parity-violating structure functions in the case of pure photon exchange. The addition of these strong parity-violating contributions improves the description of existing experimental data on DIS parity-violating asymmetries. We find the size of these contributions small but exhibiting a deviation from zero of about 1.5 $\sigma$. The associated $p$-value is 0.063, indicating that the probability of making an error by rejecting the hypothesis of no parity-violating contributions is 6.3\%, which is small but not negligible. Abstract: We describe the formal analogies in the description of the inclusive production in hard processes of hadron pairs (based on dihadron fragmentation functions) and of a single hadron inside a jet (based on hadron-in-jet fragmentation functions). Abstract: We present an extraction of unpolarized transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions based on more than two thousands data points from several experiments for two different processes: semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan production of lepton pairs. The baseline analysis is performed with a Monte Carlo replica method resumming large logarithms at N3LL accuracy. The resulting description of the data is very good ($\chi^2/N_{\rm dat} = 1.06$). For semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, predictions for multiplicities are normalized by factors that cure the discrepancy with data introduced by higher-order perturbative corrections.

25. The Electron-Ion Collider -- A U.S. facility for the European community to explore the mysteries of the building blocks of matter

Abstract: This document is submitted as input to the NuPECC Long Range Plan 2024 by three European members of the EIC Users Group Steering Committee (Vice Chair, one at-large member, and the EU Representative). We submit the document on behalf of the international EIC Users Group (EICUG) community, but we specifically represent 335 European members of the EICUG (25%) based in 80 institutions (30% of the total) located in Armenia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. This European involvement is an important driver of the EIC, but can also be beneficial for a number of related ongoing and planned nuclear physics experiments in Europe. In this document, the shared interest regarding scientific questions and detector R&D between the EIC and European nuclear physics communities is outlined. 26. Measurement of transport coefficients in electrolytes applying electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

Abstract: Fuel cells shall play a key role in the transition and establishment of a emission free energy matrix. The electrolyte is the heart and soul of a fuel cell, being the component that makes possible their functioning but also causing their highest losses. Electrolytes have been studied and characterised up to date almost exclusively by means of mono-causal classical models, e.g. Ohm’s Law and Fick’s Law. These approaches have proved to be partially, when not entirely, unsatisfactory when compared to experimental data. Therefore it is proposed to study and measure the transport processes taking into consideration a multi-causal approach, known as Non Equilibrium Thermodynamics, as proposed by the Nobel prize award physicist Lars Onsager. The approach has been proved to fit better experimental data of membrane processes, as e.g. in PEM fuel cells. The two widespread types of fuel cells have been considered, so that two electrolytes were subject to investigation: the solid oxide electrolyte and the polymer electrolyte. Both electrolytes were investigated in terms of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics. Models were developed to experimentally determine the transport coefficients defined by this theory by means of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, the novelty of this thesis. Two test benches were modified to apply gradients in temperature or concentration, so that the coupled effects could be magnified thus making possible to measure the transport coefficients. The measurements of the solid oxide electrolyte show large deviations compared to literature values, making possible only a qualitative analysis. The ionic transport coefficient was determined and the coupled transport coefficient was approximated. Possible improvements to increase the reliability of the measurements and the test bench were proposed. 28. Extraction of Pion Transverse Momentum Distributions from Drell-Yan data

Abstract: We map the distribution of unpolarized quarks inside a unpolarized pion as a function of the quark's transverse momentum, encoded in unpolarized Transverse Momentum Distributions (TMDs). We extract the pion TMDs from available data of unpolarized pion-nucleus Drell-Yan processes, where the cross section is differential in the lepton-pair transverse momentum. In the cross section, pion TMDs are convoluted with nucleon TMDs that we consistently take from our previous studies. We obtain a fairly good agreement with data. We present also predictions for pion-nucleus scattering that is being measured by the COMPASS Collaboration.

Abstract: We present the potential of $\eta_{b,c}$ production in proton collisions to access the gluon transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs). Abstract: Die Waffenverbotszone Eisenbahnstraße Leipzig ist die erste und bisher einzige Waffenverbotszone Sachsens. Die vorliegende Arbeit geht aus einem Projekt hervor, das anderthalb Jahre nach der Einrichtung der Waffenverbotszone begann, um deren Auswirkungen zu untersuchen. lm Einzelnen wurden der Kriminalitätsverlauf, die Akzeptanz der Waffenverbotszone und das Sicherheitsempfinden der Wohnbevölkerung betrachtet. Erhoben wurden Daten sowohl für das Areal der Waffenverbotszone als auch für die beiden Ortsteile, über die sie sich erstreckt. Methodisch stützt sich das Projekt auf eine Prozessdatenanalyse, eine postalische Bevölkerungsbefragung und Expertenbefragungen. Daraus ist eine umfängliche Beschreibung der Situation in den beiden Ortsteilen und der Waffenverbotszone Eisenbahnstraße entstanden, die Einblicke in die spezifische Kriminalitätsbelastung und deren Veränderung sowie die Beurteilung der Waffenverbotszone in der Wahrnehmung der Bevölkerung gewährt. Zudem werden neben einer kritischen Bewertung der Anlage solcher Evaluierungsprojekte auch Vorschläge für künftige Projekte dieser Art unterbreitet sowie ein Szenario vorgestellt, das helfen kann, die Probleme der beiden Ortsteile langfristig zu lösen.

Abstract: Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is a particle accelerator facility planned for construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York by the United States Department of Energy. EIC will provide capabilities of colliding beams of polarized electrons with polarized beams of proton and light ions. EIC will be one of the largest and most sophisticated new accelerator facilities worldwide, and the only new large-scale accelerator facility planned for construction in the United States in the next few decades. The versatility, resolving power and intensity of EIC will present many new opportunities to address some of the crucial and fundamental open scientific questions in particle physics. Abstract: ATHENA has been designed as a general purpose detector capable of delivering the full scientific scope of the Electron-Ion Collider. Careful technology choices provide fine tracking and momentum resolution, high performance electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry, hadron identification over a wide kinematic range, and near-complete hermeticity. This article describes the detector design and its expected performance in the most relevant physics channels. It includes an evaluation of detector technology choices, the technical challenges to realizing the detector and the R&D required to meet those challenges.

33. Psychiatric symptoms subsequent to COVID-19 and their association with clinical features: A retrospective investigation

Abstract: This study explores the association between psychiatric symptoms following COVID-19 and demographic, disease-related and premorbid clinical confounders. Global cognition, depression, anxiety and PTSD features were assessed in 152 post-COVID-19 patients, subdivided into being at risk for brain disorders or not. In both groups, clinically meaningful depression, anxiety and PTSD symptoms were mildly-to-moderately frequent (4−45%). No demographic or clinical variables predicted psychiatric measures (except for lower age predicting higher anxiety levels). Depression, anxiety and PTSD measures were associated among each other. Hence, depression-, anxiety- and PTSD-spectrum disturbances in COVID-19 survivors are likely to be unassociated with disease-related and premorbid features.

34. Cognitive phenotyping of post-infectious SARS-CoV-2 patients

Abstract: Background: SARS-CoV-2 infection entails neuroinvasive, neuroinflammatory, and treatment-related features accounting for cognitive deficits in COVID-19-recovered patients. Although screening for such dysfunctions in this population is considered clinically relevant, contributions to cognitive phenotyping including premorbid and disease-related confounders are scarcely represented. This study thus aimed at describing the cognitive outcome at the function-/domain-level of post-infectious SARS-CoV-2 patients being already at risk (RCD +) or not (RCD −) for cognitive decline. Methods: Fifty-four COVID-19-recovered individuals were classified as either RCD + or RCD − according to medical records. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Addebrooke Cognitive Examination-Revised (ACE-R), Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB), and Attentive Matrices (AM) were administered (N = 54, 34, 28, and 28 patients, respectively). Results: Prevalence of defective (cutoff = 24.89) MMSE scores was 24.3% in RCD + patients and 5.9% in the RCD − group. ACE-R-total below cutoff scores were less frequent (RCD + : 5.4%; RCD − : 5.9%). Abnormal performances at the FAB an AM were respectively detected in 18.9% and 8.1% of RCD + patients and 0% and 11.8% of the RCD − group. Within the ACE-R subtests, those assessing orientation, attention, and fluency were the most frequently impaired in both groups. Disease-related variables were mostly unassociated with cognitive measures. Discussion: Both RCD + and RCD − COVID-19-recovered individuals might show cognitive deficits within the dysexecutive-inattentive and amnesic spectrum. Non-instrumental, executive/attentive dysfunctions are predominant in this population and can be detected by both screening and domain-specific psychometric tests—although the latter might be more sensitive in RCD − patients.

35. A verb-naming test accurately detects cognitive changes in ALS

Abstract: Verb-naming tests were proposed for detecting cognitive impairment in ALS, although statistical evidence on their clinical usefulness is still lacking. A total of 29 ALS patients and 29 demographic-matched healthy controls (HCs) were administered the Action-Verb-Naming Test (AVNT), a standardized picture-naming task of actions. Patients were also administered the Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioral ALS Screen (ECAS), and classified according to Strong et al. (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-frontotemporal spectrum disorder (ALS-FTSD): revised diagnostic criteria. Amyotroph Lateral Scler Frontotemporal Degener. 2017;18:153–4) criteria. The AVNT discriminated ALS patients from HCs (p = 0.026) and yielded high accuracy in detecting cognitive impairments among ALS patients (88% of accuracy; sensitivity = 1; specificity = 0.84; PPV = 0.5; NPV = 1; LR+ = 3.83; LR− = 0), as well as a below-cutoff performance on the ECAS (AUC = 0.74). The AVNT was unrelated to other clinical variables, despite being strongly associated with ECAS total, ALS-specific, Language and Executive scores (rs = 0.65–0.75). These findings show that verb naming is an accurate test to detect domain-specific cognitive changes in ALS patients, regardless of their disease phenotype.

Abstract: We present an extraction of unpolarized transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions based on more than two thousands data points from several experiments for two different processes: semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan production of lepton pairs. The baseline analysis is performed with a Monte Carlo replica method resumming large logarithms at N3LL accuracy. The resulting description of the data is very good ($\chi^2/N_{\rm dat} = 1.06$). Abstract: This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and developing detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions. This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. Abstract: The strong force which binds hadrons is described by the theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Determining the character and manifestations of QCD is one of the most important and challenging outstanding issues necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the structure of hadrons. Within the context of the QCD parton picture, the parton distribution functions (PDFs) have been remarkably successful in describing a wide variety of processes. However, these PDFs have generally been confined to the description of collinear partons within the hadron. New experiments and facilities provide the opportunity to additionally explore the transverse structure of hadrons which is described by generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs). In our previous report Lin et al. (2018), we compared and contrasted the two main approaches used to determine the collinear PDFs: the first based on perturbative QCD factorization theorems, and the second based on lattice-QCD calculations. In the present report, we provide an update of recent progress on the collinear PDFs, and also expand the scope to encompass the generalized PDFs (GPDs and TMD PDFs). We review the current state of the various calculations, and consider what new data might be available in the near future. We also examine how a shared effort can foster dialog between the PDF and lattice-QCD communities, and yield improvements for these generalized PDFs.

Abstract: Background: The present study investigates the impact of the Coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic on the subjective experience of pregnant women, as well as the impact of the pandemic on this population in terms of psychopathological correlates. Subjects and methods: Pregnant women referring to the Section of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the General Hospital of Perugia, Italy, were recruited from 1st May, 2021 to 15th June, 2021. Socio-demographic and clinical data was collected, as well as information regarding the Covid-19 pandemic impact on the subjective experience of pregnancy. Psychopathology was evaluated by means of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y (STAI-Y), the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and the Prenatal Distress Measure (Pre-DM). Descriptive analyses were performed. Significant associations between distress symptoms and the collected sociodemographic and clinical variables were assessed by using the Pearson correlation (p<0.05). Results: 25 women were included in the study. Among these, 18 (72%) reported that the Covid-19 pandemic negatively impacted their experience of pregnancy. Were detected an average Pre-DM total score of 7.28±4.33 and an average state anxiety scale value of 35.56+-9.21 and an average trait anxiety scale value of 34.04+-7.44 at the STAI-Y. A global severity index > 1 at SCL-90 was detected in 8.3% of the sample. Conclusions: The identification of antepartum distress and the early treatment of perinatal psychopathology represent a priority during the Covid-19 pandemic era.

44. Entropy solutions of non-local scalar conservation laws with congestion via deterministic particle method

Abstract: We develop deterministic particle schemes to solve non-local scalar conservation laws with congestion. We show that the discrete approximations converge to the unique entropy solution with an explicit rate of convergence under more general assumptions that the existing literature: the velocity fields are less regular (in particular the interaction force can have a discontinuity at the origin) with no prescribed attractive/repulsive regime and the mobility can have unbounded support. We complement our results with some numerical simulations, among which we show the applicability of the schemes to the multi-species setting., Comment: 41 pages, 18 figures

Abstract: This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and developing detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions. This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. Abstract: The strong force which binds hadrons is described by the theory of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Determining the character and manifestations of QCD is one of the most important and challenging outstanding issues necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the structure of hadrons. Within the context of the QCD parton picture, the Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) have been remarkably successful in describing a wide variety of processes. However, these PDFs have generally been confined to the description of collinear partons within the hadron. New experiments and facilities provide the opportunity to additionally explore the transverse structure of hadrons which is described by Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) and Transverse Momentum Dependent Parton Distribution Functions (TMD PDFs). In our previous review, we compared and contrasted the two main approaches used to determine the collinear PDFs: the first based on perturbative QCD factorization theorems, and the second based on lattice QCD calculations. In the present report, we provide an update of recent progress on the collinear PDFs, and also expand the scope to encompass the generalized PDFs (GPDs and TMD PDFs). We review the current state of the various calculations, and consider what new data might be available in the near future. We also examine how a shared effort can foster dialog between the PDF and Lattice QCD communities, and yield improvements for these generalized PDFs.

Abstract: The topical workshop {\it Strong QCD from Hadron Structure Experiments} took place at Jefferson Lab from Nov. 6-9, 2019. Impressive progress in relating hadron structure observables to the strong QCD mechanisms has been achieved from the {\it ab initio} QCD description of hadron structure in a diverse array of methods in order to expose emergent phenomena via quasi-particle formation. The wealth of experimental data and the advances in hadron structure theory make it possible to gain insight into strong interaction dynamics in the regime of large quark-gluon coupling (the strong QCD regime), which will address the most challenging problems of the Standard Model on the nature of the dominant part of hadron mass, quark-gluon confinement, and the emergence of the ground and excited state hadrons, as well as atomic nuclei, from QCD. This workshop aimed to develop plans and to facilitate the future synergistic efforts between experimentalists, phenomenologists, and theorists working on studies of hadron spectroscopy and structure with the goal to connect the properties of hadrons and atomic nuclei available from data to the strong QCD dynamics underlying their emergence from QCD. Abstract: This volume is a collection of contributions for the 7-week program "Probing Nucleons and Nuclei in High Energy Collisions" that was held at the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle, WA, USA, from October 1 until November 16, 2018. The program was dedicated to the physics of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), the world's first polarized electron-nucleon (ep) and electron-nucleus (eA) collider to be constructed in the USA. Abstract: The Spin Physics Detector (SPD) is a future multipurpose experiment foreseen to run at the NICA collider, which is currently under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna, Russia). The physics program of the experiment is based on collisions of longitudinally and transversely polarized protons and deuterons at $\sqrt{s}$ up to 27 GeV and luminosity up to 10$^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The SPD will operate as a universal facility for comprehensive study of unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon, using different complementary probes such as: charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. The aim of this work is to make a thorough review of the physics objectives that can potentially be addressed at the SPD, underlining related theoretical aspects and discussing relevant experimental results when available. Among different pertinent phenomena particular attention is drawn to the study of the gluon helicity, gluon Sivers and Boer-Mulders functions in the nucleon, as well as the gluon transversity distribution in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2102.00442
