Background New intraocular lenses (IOLs) have emerged since the originally coined monofocal and multifocal IOLs. The extended depth of focus (EDoF) and enhanced monofocal IOLs (mono‑EDoF) that have appeared in the last decade have caused some confusion in their classification. The aim of this review was to summarize the outcomes provided by mono‑EDOF IOLs and to determine which of the endpoints, described by the American National Stand‑ ard (ANSI) for EDoF IOLs, are fulfilled. Methods The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and WEB OF SCIENCE databases were searched. Two independent reviewers screened the studies for inclusion and data extraction. The search strategy was limited to studies published between 2020 and 2022, but not by language. The results are presented as a narrative summary accompanied by tables, in alignment with the objectives of this scoping review. Compliance with the endpoints for clinical outcomes described in the American National Standard Z80.35–2018 (ANSI) for EDoF lenses was checked and additional endpoints were defined. Results Two systematic reviews, 13 laboratory, 21 clinical, and two mixed studies were included. Tecnis Eyhance was the mono‑EDOF with the highest volume of evidence to date. Although laboratory studies included other IOLs, clini‑ cal evidence for them is still scarce, with only one study of IsoPure compared to a standard monofocal IOL. Evidence in comparison to EDoF lenses is also scarce, even for Tecnis Eyhance, with only three studies including this lens in comparison to an EDoF lens. After evaluation of the ANSI criteria, agreement was found in the failure for the increase in depth of field equal to or greater than 0.5 D for a visual acuity (VA) level of 0.2 logMAR and none of the studies sup‑ ported that the median monocular VA at intermediate distance was at least 0.2 logMAR. Durante este primer año de acreditación, hemos contribuido al cumplimiento de los objetivos propuestos en nuestro Plan Erasmus y hemos realizado 35 movilidades a centros educativos europeos con el fin de observar e intercambiar proyectos e innovaciones metodológicas y pedagógicas sobre la ciencia en las primeras etapas de la educación en los países de acogida. En concreto, docentes y miembros del equipo del programa hemos visitado varios centros de Infantil y Primaria en Timisoara, Rumanía, así como varios centros educativos de diferentes etapas, incluyendo secundaria, de la región de Paredes, en Portugal. Ha sido muy enriquecedor conocer el sistema educativo de estos países, así como establecer relaciones y contactos para futuras colaboraciones. En definitiva, promover el espíritu y la cultura europea dentro del ámbito de la educación, bajo el paraguas de la ciencia y con la coordinación de El CSIC en la Escuela.

A search is performed for the process pp -> G* -> B-H(b) over bar/(B) over bar (H)b -> Hb (b) over bar -> b (b) over barb (b) over bar, predicted in composite Higgs scenarios, where G* is a heavy colour octet vector resonance and B-H a vector-like quark of charge -1/3. The data were obtained from pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1), recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The largest background, multijet production, is estimated using a data-driven method. No significant excess of events with respect to Standard Model predictions is observed, and upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio are set. Comparisons to the predictions from a specific benchmark model are made, resulting in lower mass limits in the two-dimensional mass plane of m(G*) vs. m(BH). (c) 2016 The Author. This paper describes the implementation and performance of a particle flow algorithm applied to 20.2 fb(-1) of ATLAS data from 8 TeV proton-proton collisions in Run 1 of the LHC. The algorithm removes calorimeter energy deposits due to charged hadrons from consideration during jet reconstruction, instead using measurements of their momenta from the inner tracker. This improves the accuracy of the charged-hadron measurement, while retaining the calorimeter measurements of neutral-particle energies. The paper places emphasis on how this is achieved, while minimising double-counting of charged-hadron signals between the inner tracker and calorimeter. The performance of particle flow jets, formed from the ensemble of signals from the calorimeter and the inner tracker, is compared to that of jets reconstructed from calorimeter energy deposits alone, demonstrating improvements in resolution and pile-up stability.

Measurements of the per-event charged-particle yield as a function of the charged-particle transverse momentum and rapidity are performed using p + Pbcollision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of root sNN= 5.02 TeV. Charged particles are reconstructed over pseudorapidity |eta| 2.3and transverse momentum between 0.1GeVand 22GeVin a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 mu b(-1). The results are presented in the form of chargedparticle nuclear modification factors, where the p + Pbcharged-particle multiplicities are compared between central and peripheral p + Pbcollisions as well as to charged-particle cross sections measured in ppcollisions. The p + Pbcollision centrality is characterized by the total transverse energy measured in -4.9eta-3.1, which is in the direction of the outgoing lead beam. Three different estimations of the number of nucleons participating in the p + Pbcollision are carried out using the Glauber model and two Glauber-Gribov colour-fluctuation extensions to the Glauber model. The values of the nuclear modification factors are found to vary significantly as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum. Abroad peak is observed for all centralities and rapidities in the nuclear modification factors for chargedparticle transverse momentum values around 3GeV. The magnitude of the peak increases for more central collisions as well as rapidity ranges closer to the direction of the outgoing lead nucleus. (C) 2016 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.

This paper reports constraints on Higgs boson production with transverse momentum above 1 TeV. The analyzed data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider from 2015 to 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 136 fb(-1.) Higgs bosons decaying into b (b) over bar are reconstructed as single large-radius jets recoiling against a hadronic system and are identified by the experimental signature of two b-hadron decays. The experimental techniques are validated in the same kinematic regime using the Z -> b (b) over bar process. The 95% confidence-level upper limit on the cross section for Higgs boson production with transverse momentum above 450 GeV is 115 fb, and above 1 TeV it is 9.6 fb. Multiparticle cumulants of azimuthal angle correlations have been compelling tools to probe the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in the ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and the search for the QGP in small collision systems at BNL's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, only very few of them are available and have been studied in theoretical calculations and experimental measurements, while the rest are generally very interesting, but their direct implementation was not feasible. In this paper, we present a generic recursive algorithm for multiparticle cumulants, which enables the calculation of arbitrary order single and mixed harmonic multiparticle cumulants. Among them, the new 10-, 12-, 14-, and 16-particle cumulants of a single harmonic, named c(n){10}, c(n){12}, c(n){14}, and c(n) {16}, and the corresponding v(n) coefficients, will be discussed for the first time. Our Monte Carlos studies show that these new multiparticle cumulants can be readily used along with updates to the generic framework of multiparticle correlations to a very high order. Finally, we propose a particular series of mixed harmonic multiparticle cumulants, which measures the general correlations between any moments of different flow coefficients. The predictions of these new observables are shown based on an initial-state model MC-Glauber, a toy Monte Carlo model, and the HIJING transport model for future comparisons between experimental data and theoretical model calculations. The study of these new multiparticle cumulants in heavy-ion collisions will significantly improve the understanding of the joint probability density function which involves both different harmonics of flow and also the symmetry planes. This will pave the way for more stringent constraints on the initial state and help to extract more precisely information on how the created hot and dense matter evolves. Methods: Qualitative interviews with 12 General Practitioners and 4 Primary Care Nurses in New Zealand’s Otago region. Thematic analysis was conducted using the constant comparative method. Results: Primary care professionals encountered challenges in providing care to patients with multimorbidity with respect to both clinical decision making and health care delivery. Clinical decision making occurred in time-limited consultations where the challenges of complexity and inadequacy of single disease guidelines were managed through the use of “satisficing” (care deemed satisfactory and sufficient for a given patient) and sequential consultations utilising relational continuity of care. The New Zealand primary care co-payment funding model was seen as a barrier to the delivery of care as it discourages sequential consultations, a problem only partially addressed through the use of the additional capitation based funding stream of Care Plus. Fragmentation of care also occurred within general practice and across the primary/secondary care interface. Conclusions: These findings highlight specific New Zealand barriers to the delivery of primary care to patients living with multimorbidity. There is a need to develop, implement and nationally evaluate a revised version of Care Plus that takes account of these barriers.

A search for the pair production of top squarks, each with R-parity-violating decays into two Standard Model quarks, is performed using 17.4 fb-1 of √s = 8 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LITC. Each top squark is assumed to decay to a b- and an s-quark, leading to four quarks in the final state. Background discrimination is achieved with the use of b-tagging and selections on the mass and substructure of large-radius jets, providing sensitivity to top squark masses as low as 100 GeV. No evidence of an excess beyond the Standard Model background prediction is observed and top squalls decaying to bs¯ are excluded for top squark masses in the range 100 ≤ mt¯ ≤ 315 GeV at 95% confidence level.

Att paketera svensk hälso- och sjukvård. Ömsesidighet, kapital, identitet och kultur i ett introduktionsprogram för utlandsutbildade läkare Utlandsutbildade läkare ( foreign-trained doctors, FTD) har blivit en allt viktigare tillgång inom svensk hälso- och sjukvård och bidrar till att minska läkarbristen. För att underlätta för FTD att komma in i hälso- och sjukvårdssystemet erbjuder Västra Götalandsregionen (VGR) ett ettårig introduktionsprogram, PLUS. Denna masteruppsats undersöker PLUS som en arena för mötet med 'den andre' och analyserar hur VGR paketerar och presenterar svensk hälso- och sjukvård för FTD. Föreliggande forskningen har skrivits inom masterprogrammet för tillämpad kulturanalys vid Lunds universitet (MACA). Undersökningen baserar sig på ett tre månader långt kvalitativt etnografiskt fältarbete med metoder som deltagande observation och semi-strukturerade djupintervjuer. Analysen använder sig av Mauss' teori om gåvan, Bourdieu's kapitalbegrepp samt begreppen kultur och identitet. Den huvudsakliga teoretiska frågeställningen bygger på Mauss' gåvoteori: Vad är det som ges, tas emot och ges tillbaka – eller avvisas – i PLUS? Analysen visar att deltagarna ser PLUS som en gåva från VGR men också som ett hinder för karriären. De förväntar sig att PLUS ska ge möjlighet att utveckla sin karriär (ett extern värde) medan programadministratörer och lärare betonar de inre värde som finns i att deltagarna genom PLUS får möjlighet att växa som person och som läkare. När det gäller identitet så lyckas PLUS skapa ett gemensamt 'vi' när deltagarna tilltalas som läkare. När de å andra sidan tilltalas som invandrare vidgar sig avståndet mellan 'vi' och 'dem'. In order to facilitate the induction of FTD into the health care system, the Västra Götaland Region (VGR) in western Sweden offers a one-year induction programme, PLUS. The present research aims at examining dynamics in PLUS as an arena of meeting 'the other' and analyses how VGR packages and presents Swedish health care to foreign-trained doctors. This research is a contribution to the discipline of Applied Cultural Analysis at Lund University in southern Sweden. It is based on three months of qualitative ethnographic fieldwork during PLUS using methods such as participant observation and semi-structured in-depth interviews. This study draws on Mauss' theory of the gift and Bourdieu's term of symbolic capital as well as the notions of identity and culture. Based on the concept of the gift, what is given, received and reciprocated in PLUS or refused to is the main theoretical question. The results indicate that FTD perceive PLUS both as a gift by VGR but at times even as a hindrance to their career. They expect PLUS to add an external value such as a positive impact on their career, whereas managers and teachers rather highlight the internal value such as the programme's significance for participants' personal development. In terms of identity, PLUS creates a common 'we' whenever the participants are explicitely addressed as doctors. Whenever their identity as immigrants is addressed, it reinforces the gap between 'us' and 'them'. Participants often use culture to make sense of a challenging situation whereas managers rather seek technical explanations. This thesis starts filling a knowledge gap as it is the first Swedish study and even the first applied cultural analysis of an FTD induction programme. Efforts towards Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation plus conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+) have grown in importance in developing countries following negotiations within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This has favoured investments in processes to prepare countries for REDD+ at the national level (a process referred to as REDD+ Readiness). Yet, little attention has been given to how Readiness can be assessed and potentially improved. This article presents a framework for Readiness assessment and compares progress in REDD+ Readiness across four countries, namely Cameroon, Indonesia, Peru, and Vietnam. The Readiness assessment framework comprises six functions, namely planning and coordination; policy, laws, and institutions; measurement, reporting, verification (MRV), and audits; benefit sharing; financing; and demonstrations and pilots. We found the framework credible and consistent in measuring progress and eliciting insight into Readiness processes at the country level. Country performance for various functions wasmixed. Progress was evident on planning and coordination, and demonstration and pilots. However, MRV and audits; financing; benefit sharing; and policies, laws and institutions face major challenges. The results suggest that the way national forest governance has been shaped by historical circumstances (showing path dependency) is a critical factor for progress in Readiness processes. There is need for a rethink of the current REDD+ Readiness infrastructure given the serious gaps observed in addressing drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, linking REDD+ to broader national strategies and systematic capacity building. Policy relevance Policy makers, researchers and analysts helping to plan and implement REDD+, environmental services and climate change would find this paper potentially helpful. In this study we report on changes in language offerings in Australian universities for the period 2011-2013, focusing on languages with small enrolments. The changes in tertiary language offerings have not made any significant modification of the landscape reported in our earlier paper, 'Swings and roundabouts: Changes in language offerings at Australian universities 2005-2011' (Dunne and Pavlyshyn 2012). We find that there has been an apparent increase in the number of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) offered across the tertiary sector as universities provided more detailed responses. Private benefaction has provided security for a few less commonly taught languages, yet while such philanthropic activity is welcome, it would be of concern if the continued offering of LCTLs were to become dependent on it. A number of urban universities have made cuts in their language programs. Students will have access to these languages by crossinstitutional enrolment, but future uptake will have to be monitored if a depth of linguistic diversity is to be maintained in Australia.

Monitoring tropical deforestation and forest degradation is one of the central elements for the Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries (REDD+) scheme. Current arrangements for monitoring are based on remote sensing and field measurements. Since monitoring is the periodic process of assessing forest stands properties with respect to reference data, adopting the current REDD+ requirements for implementing monitoring at national levels is a challenging task. Recently, the advancement in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and mobile devices has enabled local communities to monitor their forest in a basic resource setting such as no or slow internet connection link, limited power supply, etc. Despite the potential, the use of mobile device system for community based monitoring (CBM) is still exceptional and faces implementation challenges. This paper presents an integrated data collection system based on mobile devices that streamlines the community-based forest monitoring data collection, transmission and visualization process. This paper also assesses the accuracy and reliability of CBM data and proposes a way to fit them into national REDD+ Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) scheme. The system performance is evaluated at Tra Bui commune, Quang Nam province, Central Vietnam, where forest carbon and change activities were tracked. The results show that the local community is able to provide data with accuracy comparable to expert measurements (index of agreement greater than 0.88), but against lower costs. Furthermore, the results confirm that communities are more effective to monitor small scale forest degradation due to subsistence fuel wood collection and selective logging, than high resolution remote sensing SPOT imagery.

Utilization of super alloys in aerospace and defense industries can not be ignored because of excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance, high strength and long creep life at elevated temperatures. The newly innovated ALLVAC 718 Plus superalloy which is the last version of Inconel 718 has been proceeding in the way to become a material that aerospace and defense industries never replace of any other material with combining its good mechanical properties, easy machinability and low cost. In spite of their superior properties, these materials suffer from wear, tear and crack in order to be exposed to the elevated working temperatures in service. Therefore EBW varestraint test is designed to investigate the hot cracking susceptibility of Electron beam welded ALLVAC 718 plus.

Avocado sunblotch viroid, peach latent mosaic viroid, chrysanthemum chlorotic mottle viroid, and eggplant latent viroid (ELVd), the four recognized members of the family Avsunviroidae, replicate through the symmetric pathway of an RNA-to-RNA rolling-circle mechanism in chloroplasts of infected cells. Viroid oligomeric transcripts of both polarities contain embedded hammerhead ribozymes that, during replication, mediate their self-cleavage to monomeric-length RNAs with 5'-hydroxyl and 2',3'-phosphodiester termini that are subsequently circularized. We report that a recombinant version of the chloroplastic isoform of the tRNA ligase from eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) efficiently catalyzes in vitro circularization of the plus [(+)] and minus [(-)] monomeric linear replication intermediates from the four Avsunviroidae. We also show that while this RNA ligase specifically recognizes the genuine monomeric linear (+) ELVd replication intermediate, it does not do so with five other monomeric linear (+) ELVd RNAs with their ends mapping at different sites along the molecule, despite containing the same 5'-hydroxyl and 2',3'-phosphodiester terminal groups. Moreover, experiments involving transient expression of a dimeric (+) ELVd transcript in Nicotiana benthamiana Domin plants preinoculated with a tobacco rattle virus-derived vector to induce silencing of the plant endogenous tRNA ligase show a significant reduction of ELVd circularization. In contrast, circularization of a viroid replicating in the nucleus occurring through a different pathway is unaffected. Together, these results support the conclusion that the chloroplastic isoform of the plant tRNA ligase is the host enzyme mediating circularization of both (+) and (-) monomeric linear intermediates during replication of the viroids belonging to the family Avsunviroidae.

Inviting artificial intelligence into our bodies has appeal - but it also carries certain risks. I have often wondered what it would be like to rid myself of a keyboard for data entry, and a computer screen for display. Some of my greatest moments of reflection are when I am in the car driving long distances, cooking in my kitchen, watching the kids play at the park, waiting for a doctor's appointment or on a plane thousands of metres above sea level. I have always been great at multitasking but at these times it is often not practical or convenient to be head down typing on a laptop, tablet or smartphone. It would be much easier if I could just make a mental note to record an idea and have it recorded, there and then. And who wouldn't want the ability to "jack into" all the world's knowledge sources in an instant via a network? Who wouldn't want instant access to their life-pages filled with all those memorable occasions? Or even the ability to slow down the process of ageing, as long as living longer equated to living with mind and body fully intact, as outlined in the video below. Transhumanists would have us believe that these things are not only possible but inevitable. In short: we Homo sapiens may dictate the next stage of our evolution through our use of technology.

The ratio of the initial shifting value to the target crown is determined, and the mathematical model considering the relationship between the coefficients A2, A3, A4, A5 and is established. According to the theoretical analysis, the distance between the maximum or minimum point of the high order equivalent crown for work roll with CVC-plus roll curve and the rolling central point is the times of the roll barrel length. In general, the initial shifting value of the CVC-plus roll curve is not equal to the initial shifting value of the 3-order CVC roll curve . The coefficient A1 can also be obtained by optimizing the target function with minimizing the axial force.
